Actually towards the end of saf tenure, our def already leaky. Just that we have champion fear factor, no ppl setup to attack us. Ppl setup to def.

Then Moyes reign made ppl believe they can get points at old trafford

rvp rescued us alot

First thing that needs to be done is bring in a DOF

Manager should not be allowed to dictate the transfer target anymorey

QUOTE(statikinetic @ Dec 28 2023, 08:38 PM)
Managers at Manchester United has never been able to dictate transfer policy since Sir Alex left.

There is a transfer committee which decides. The manager has a seat at the committee. So does the DOF (Jon Murtough), the Chief Scout and a few others.

Antony is a good example, overpaid for average footballer

Even we have some star players, we still need the “O’Shea and Fletcher” to complete the team

QUOTE(tontolou @ Jan 10 2024, 09:53 AM)
what is his strengths?
*
imo he can play better as box to box midfielder
utilise his strength and sprint to cause havoc
not to mention his long shot is not too bad as well

QUOTE(aaron1717 @ Jan 10 2024, 09:56 AM)
i always rate fred better than mctom... mctom only advantage is homegrown and younger and occasionally have the spirit of RVN... lol... fred tries harder than mctom thats why he made more mistakes... mctom just hide away from every ball available to him... lol
*
McTom just cant play as DM

i think he already played as box to box, no.10 behind striker and no.6 before under ETH... none of this works out for him... only thing left is to convert him into another heskey/werghorst... lol
*
i guess it depends on how you view it

but other than fitting players in the right position, there is another glaring issue / hole in our midfield

more often than out, our midfield and forward players are positioned so far away from the defenders (not sure if this is ETH's instructions), when we kena countered we bocor easily

we can see the pattern in our conceded goals

yea, the midfield combination is disrupted after casemiro and erikssen was injured... no one dare to go and take the ball from our CBs.... only after we started mainoo, our midfield is smoother because he always willing to take the ball and make the pass... the problem is mctom doesnt always available as a passing option no matter which position he is playing... as at now... if casemiro and erikssen are not fit... our best midfield combo still amrabat mainoo... mainoo can play box to box and amrabat wont hide around like mctom...
*
about mainoo, it strengthen my view that a manager should always try to give chance to new players / youth to determine his ability

if we are not suffering any injury crisis in midfield, we probably will nvr get to see him to play and still stick to the same players since ETH suck in players rotation

even vs Wigan we are still playing Bruno bangwall.gif

ETH have a problem since ajax time... he dont like to rotate... he like to keep his player fit by playing games... lol... because we rested almost 2 weeks, he decided to start all the first teamer against wigan to keep them fit ahead of spurs game...  sweat.gif  sweat.gif but mainoo grab his chance well, hannibal not that consistent thats why you see him cant start games anymore... pellestri also not fit as a starter... the young CB kid, unlucky to lose the game he started...
*
some young players need games to develop before can play consistently

lucky we didn't suffer any new injuries in cup games ...

bad thing is we are out of other cups so no chance to let fringe/youth players to develop (if ETH were to do so)

Isn't that what the current setup is atm?

1 CDM, 2 AM, and we get overrun in MF when he plays up high and then jogs back when lose possession in the final 3rd?
*
our MF gets overrun no matter who is playing anyway so I personally blame it on tactical issue

but no doubt that recently McTominay and Rashford are very lazy (even as fresh substitute)

ETH could have sold him when there were some interest back then and use the fund for new recruitment
