QUOTE(berzerk @ Nov 14 2023, 01:16 PM) hard to say. If sinkie never left, parliament would have been more evenly balanced with LKY leading a more effective non-Malaya group including sabah & sarawak MPs maybe 3S + DAP + Gerakan could have been better at blocking BN's excesses. this is what I said before, LKY choose the easy path instead leading nons+broneo against Malay agenda, the real war

It’s good that he packed up and left when he did.

QUOTE(jay @ Nov 15 2023, 07:42 AM) if he is true good leader he should have no fear, but apparently he is not That's your opinion to which you're certainly entitled. Just note that countless other world leaders and countries would disagree with you, and in my opinion (to which I'm certainly similarly entitled), with good reason.

QUOTE(jay @ Nov 15 2023, 07:42 AM) if he is true good leader he should have no fear, but apparently he is not i would not call it fear, more that he was only concerned with Singapore's national interest. He promised heaven & earth to convince S&S to join Malaysia because it was in Singapore's interest to be part of a bigger country. Then when things became difficult with UMNO and Singapore could survive in its own, they became collateral damage who were no longer useful to Singapore. QUOTE(Kayacrab @ Nov 14 2023, 11:35 AM) Toh Chin Chye - from Batu Gajah, Perak Goh Keng Swee - from Malacca Devan Nair - from Malacca Yusof Ishak - from Taiping, Perak Ong Eng Guan - from Malacca Ong Pang Boon - from Kuala Lumpur Ahmad Ibrahim - from Penang Hon Sui Sen - from Penang --- Honourable mentions:
Wee Kheng Chiang, founder of UOB, from Kuching, Sarawak J. Y. Pillay, founding chairman of Singapore Airlines, from Klang T. T. Rajah - from Sri Lanka S. Rajatranam - from Sri Lanka
What does this tell you? Singapore is not special. Malaysians made Singapore. People should stop putting down Malaysia and Malaysians. Even today, countless "Singaporean" companies (e.g. Grab), politicians, prominent figures, sportspeople, are from Malaysia. Singapore, past and present, is NOTHING without Malaysia and Malaysians. But any idea why these special people didn't remain in Malaysia?

Then when things became difficult with UMNO and Singapore could survive in its own, they became collateral damage who were no longer useful to Singapore. According to his memoirs, he wasn’t convinced that Singapore could survive on its own - but he’d rather take a stab at it and make his own destiny than to rely on someone else to make it for him and Singapore.
