There have been many supportive people in my last thread and i sincerely thank you all for it. smile.gif

As one of potential ideas, i'm thinking of starting to make content on youtube with the aim of eventually earning some income off it.
I've been watching and reading around to get a feel.
From what i gather this is a long term effort (lots of time needed) but with potential.

Any comments or opinions on this endeavor appreciated.. particularly from those already doing it or explored it. smile.gif

By the way, my current laptop is an i5-1135g7 with only 8gb of ram(stuck with it due to ultrabook soldered), ssd and no dedicated gpu.
Do you guys think this will be sufficient for me to use in starting out to edit videos?

Likely i will do the editing in 1080 resolution for now.
Trying to not spend on equipment for now if avoidable.

No experience, but as far as I know, professional YouTubers tend to have a team to support them.

When time is ripe, you will need to get an assistant or two.

I started mine around 2021 and burnt myself out in a year and stopped, crawling my way back to being absolute bottom office drone

My channel finally gathered 1k subs a few days ago, and still not earned a single cent

Not decided yet. I think there are audiences for different niches.

Thats likely once successful.. but thats like at level 100 vs my level 0 now. If it ever gets to that then the income should justify it.

If you don't mind sharing, what made you burnt out?

Found this article but its like successful creator burnout >>> https://edition.cnn.com/2019/12/18/tech/you...nout/index.html

monetisation criteria i checked is 1000 subs and 4k watch hours in 1year or 10mil shorts views in 90days.
So probably left your watch hours to meet the requirements

Yes, from script writing, video editing. Otherwise that is a lot of works if doing it alone.

I make longplay of classic/retro games. The very long story short is, I have to pour in at least 6 hours for every hour of content you can see in my channel if people can find it. The content is certainly niche, but not one that gains exposure and views easily so I felt all the effort I poured in was ultimately pointless.

Was already a jobless loser for too long so decided enough is enough

If your intention is to make income out of it, I would say, only start if you are able to find the content's niche that you really enjoy making. Else it's just a matter of time before a burn out hit.

I used to run a blogspot and i had adsense running on it. For first withdrawal, you'd need to get 100 dollars in revenue. I stopped at about 90 ish and never looked back..what a bummer because its really hard to get adsense. I think writing stuff is a lot easier than making videos. Congratulations on the 1k sub. Keep doing it. You mind sharing your channel name?

It might be a challenge to edit with that specs.

But depends on what type of content you’re publishing.

Youtube shorts pays about 0.04-0.08 cents/1000 views

Long form at 2-7dolllars per thousand depending on where your audience is at and niche.

And not only that, google cuts 30% of your earnings as required by the IRS if your audience is mostly from US.

According to the latest guidelines of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), anyone with at least 1000 subscribers can now apply for the monetization program, provided they have uploaded at least three public videos in the last 90 days with a minimum of 4,000 watch hours or 10 million short views

I am also thinking of starting some kind of youtube channel to talk about 3 things

1. Politics (general world politics i.e Radical left vs Conservative) and also maybe touch on Malaysia politics

2. Money and investing

3. Cars (hobby of mine)

However, i am still contemplating on wanting to show my face or not. I guess will have a test video to see if it works or not.

Already in the YPP. Adsense cannot be relied as your main source of income unfortunately. Brand deals and sponsorship on the other hand are worth way more
