Unfortunately my Solar journey ends here . Click the spoiler to see pictures.

As per whatsapp from the solar company engineering team, my roof structure cannot support the weight of the solar panels

"Kayu ni boleh pecah kalau kita drill, bila da masuk L + railing + panel , possibility utk kayu tu mengepak dan pecah tinggi tu".

This means im stuck with a rm700+ tnb bill every month from now on

My childhood home have similar roof. During rain noisy giler.

noisy because of fan sound? I thought it'll be quiet, just hot.
*
there is this high frequency mosquito sound. Quite soft so not everyone can hear this. It's not audible if u got a fan running nearby.

My case the solar company straight advice me find own contractor to do concealment. Cheaper and more reliable.

inverter generate heat then use aircon to cold it down.
then aircon need more energy to cold it down cause of the heat.

in the end could have more lost compare to distance,
actually 1 more question, DC losses should be higher then AC right?
solar to inverter DC

inverter to db AC
the distant from solar panel to DB should be fix distance,
the question is where to put the inverter only, which only impact DC and AC length.

if put outside, mean the AC is longer then DC wire.

if put store, mean DC is longer then AC wire.

this will be another argument. lol
*
so much heat from inverter?

I installed mine in the storeroom under the staircase. The heat is negligible for me. My modem cabinet generate more heat

And got sound and noise some more, which really makes me surprised.
Btw, saw your post in 2019 shared by others, so your one is NEM 1? Now receive cash pay by TNB?
*
What brand? Mine Huawei.

Btw the 2019 post is not me.

Hahaha.

I hv not much detail too

Paying installment of rm1700 for 3yrs. 0%
Enjoying government scheme rm4k.

Monthly tnb bill rebate capacity is rm1100.

Which means indirectly im paying just rm600 for the solar system cause now my monthly bill also around rm1k.

On 3rd year onwards , my electricity is basically free. Thats if i utilise less than rm1100
Yepp.
*
Nice. place 60k in FD. With 3% interest u get 1800x3 = RM5400 discount. Government scheme RM4000. already discount close to 10k for ur setup.

very true.
actually i asked before.
let say if solar panel spoil, need warranty how to deal with.

need to hire the skylift and lorry, easily rm500 to 1k to remove the solar for warranty.

then another Rm500 to 1k to install back on top.

all this excluding labor cost, only the machinery.

if the panel is EOL, mean no replacement, then how?

how to deal with warranty,
*
can confirm. i claimed warranty for my solar heater. The cost to take down repair and put it back already cost me rm1300.

Actually all things considered the potential cost is nothing compared to maintaining a car. Much more expensive, greater wear n tear and expensive to repair. Everyone still owns 1-3 car each. I learn to just let go and face the problem when it comes. No point thinking 10 years ahead.

My bill around RM 400-450(Kajang area), these are the quotation I got previously for around RM 500 savings and RM 700 savings for future EV planning.

1. 8.8kwp, JA solar 550w with Hoymiles, savings monthly 500+, 28.8k cash

2. 9.44kwp, Jinko 590w with Huayu, savings monthly 530+, 30k cash

3. 12.54kwp, Trina 570w with Huawei 12kw, savings monthly 700+, 35.5k cash

4. 11.8kwp, Jinko 590w with Huayu, savings monthly 670+, 35k cash

Conclusion, I installed together with my left and right neighbor, we bulk purchase for option 2, 3 house for 29k cash per system with 1 free maintenance (panel cleaning) within first 3 years, superb service and safety information from salesperson.

I am still in the process of having my system installed so do research further on what i say.

Maybe consider taking up insurance? That's what my installer is suggesting. Rm10k sum insured for Rm5x a year. Of course, always read the fine print what is covered, what is not. So far, it seems fine print is Rm500 deductible. Ok la if repair cost is a few k and we just have to pay Rm500. My installer says manpower/skylift cost included, as in they will repair and backend they claim back from insurance co.

Having said the above, i am still in the begining stage,  just closed deal today. So, am not going to share my installer contact until he finishes the entire project. Then i will share review whether good or bad.
*
great. please share review if possible. Best if listed with total kwp, brand and cost. TNB bill before n after installation. Much appreciated.

Would love to follow your progress on your diy solar system. U should start a fb group & who knows maybe make money creating off grid systems that are connected just to charge Evs in landed property?

Is this all done by you alone? Or u hired workers?
*
johnlai

I second this.

Make youtube explain ur system. Put subtitles. U might get good advice/suggestion from fellow diy. From here u could have started a hub for more discussions regarding diy

In case you're really wondering what's inside that solar panel.. read this:

https://www.americanexperiment.org/solar-pa...aste-literally/

"According to cancer biologist David H. Nguyen, PhD, toxic chemicals in solar panels include cadmium telluride, copper indium selenide, cadmium gallium (di)selenide, copper indium gallium (di)selenide, hexafluoroethane, lead, and polyvinyl fluoride. Silicon tetrachloride, a byproduct of producing crystalline silicon, is also highly toxic."
*
Its not like we throwing out panel every year? And there is recycling value in those panel, i am sure the disposal company will not dump it all in landfill just like that.

In grand scheme of things. Polution from those panel is like a drop of water in ocean. Standard household produce much more pollution in comparison. How many times u going to dump sola panels in ur kife time? Lol.

Thank you. So it's base on scenario 'WHEN' the electricity is used.

Scenario A
Lets say my system generates 1000kwh and IF my consumption 1600kwh is balanced  (we WFH so day & night usage should be the same) 800 kwh during day and 800kwh at night. We switch on ACs during the day (too hot to not switch on). Theorectically because i use what i produce, 1000-800kwh = 200kwh sent back to grid, i am not importing from the grid during the day. At night i use 800kwh so TNB will consider my import as 800kwh, then less my export of 200kwh and charge me 600kwh. I will therefore avoid the ICPT tax.

Scenario B
If i generate 1000kwh during the day, but household is empty coz everyine works in an office. So, 1000kwh all gets sent back to the grid. At night, everyone comes back and starts using electricity of 1600kwh. It means TNB will consider my import as 1600kwh hence ICPT kicks in, then only offset 1000kwh of my export?

That's how i understand it. I guess got to wait until my system is operational then i will find out for sure.
*
TNB will calculate everything based on total import first (tax, surchage). Then only deduct from the excess energy u generated.

In scenario A. TNB will bill u using 800kwh. Then final calculation after tax only they deduct the 200kwh.

I have seen data on how the pv panel achieve max output at certain hours of the day.  So,  If it’s on string, I will suggest go for 1:1 too if possible.  Lots of time, inverter lifespan is reduced due to oversizing. Solar companies actually can provide this ratio at no cost. Just that they don’t want to.
*
alamak. My inverter 10 while pv max up 14.

my house is facing north, and there's no obstruction like tree or roof ledge that causes shade though

roof angulation plays big role. My neighbour has two big slope for roof. while mine is a lot of mini pyramid. so my panel is facing everywhere. Monthly yield is consistently 10% lower than my neighbor.

wanna ask those who have completed NEM, how long was your waiting period for installer to come start work after receiving SEDA certificate? I got approval  cert in less than a week.

My installer says 1month plus and just wanted to know if that’s standard or too long.
*
My timeline.

2 May - send all documents.

11 May - SEDA submission.

29 May - receive NEM certificate

12 June - item delivery

13 June - installation.

16 June - all completed, but offline cos need wait TNB do the meter mods. mine already smart meter but still need TNB to aprove it.

23 June - receive NEM welcome letter from TNB. can start using the solar system (just need to flip the switch on the inverter).

means their business really good. ahaha.

Mine the company is quite new but super efficient. Installation 2 days only. After that another day to wait for system set up and testing.
