Thanks. But have to ask somebody get for me. If buy online, the shipping cost is killing. Have the chance but don't no how to ask them to get for me. They are not tech savvy.
Yes. For HTPC, you have more option, versatile and upgrade able. You don't need to throw away like others player when age come, outdate and change format. Simply upgrade the component inside.

You can use vista or xp media center. Microsoft, logitech and many others have the remote with the sofware. Even some casing come with the remote.

how to setup NAS ar?

i connect the tvix to teh router, and then the NAS how?
*
Maybe you can connect direct tvix to nas using USB than nas to router as network. Or nas to router and tvix to router. I only try before is nas to router.

If tvix to nas using USB, the nas act as a ext HDD. You can wifi to nas and tvix when they connect to router. Just think the nas as an server with ext HDD.

Yup. Cause the nas can run independent. You can access your nas anywhere using explorer. You can DL /UL, keep file and bt from far away.

QUOTE(terranova @ Jun 19 2008, 02:02 PM)
Many brands of NAS out there. Popular (reputable) ones include QNAP, Synology, D-Link. Avoid the Netgear ones. Many china-brand NAS out there which should be cheaper.

IMHO, what's important besides the form factor (which I know is important to you) is:
(1) the noise level (esp. when idle since the NAS is usually left on 24x7 and the fan starts to kick in).
(2) continued firmware upgrades. The features of the NAS is found in the firmwares, so if the manufacturers only sell the nas box but don't bother upgrading their firmware as your model gets older, then you are left out of the latest features. This is important because you are not really buying hardware (ie the nas case) but the features that the nas offers. So buy one that has good after-sales support.
(3) no. of bays for future expansion. Single-bay NAS may seem enough right now, but I tell you once you've experienced a HDD crash on a NAS, the idea of having at least 2-bays will be mighty attractive. Having a 2-bay NAS will allow you to run it on RAID mode (mirror) especially if you have invaluable data on the hard disk (e.g. priceless baby videos, photos, etc.).

I find the QNAP is quieter than the Synology. I base that on my TS-209 vs my Synology 106e. Perhaps the newer Synology models are quieter, I don't know. I also have a Buffalo NAS, my first one long time ago. I'm getting a TS-409 soon.

Bear in mind u can use the Synology and QNAP to stream to your PS3 as well, so there's some overlap in function between the PS3 and tvix. U can use the PS3 to play mpg/divx, mp3, jpg files off the NAS. Of course, the tvix does more than that.

Hope that helps.

Edit - oh yea, most NAS are Mac compatible as well, since they are not OS-dependant.
*
Qnap and synology have the same future and the price are almost same. I choose snology over qnap because it have fan. Qnap is using passive cooler and abit hot running. I don't think it is good for HDD since the nas mostly running 24/7. A HDD running with high temp = shorther life. Run till now, I hardly hear the fan noise.

Why you need a NAS? You mean connection beside firewire? That would be E-sata.

Yeah, forgot about the HDD. But that one is depending on your needs. I might start with 250GB and I guess it more than enough to store movies biggrin.gif
*
I start up with 750gb. And not even a year, fill up. Now add another 1TB. Already 50% full. So 250GB?? You must be kidding. biggrin.gif

Lerr.. kan dah cakap, depend on your needs. The 250GB just for movies as I dont really watching TV series and anime. So, I guess 250GB is enough. Different people, different taste.. whistling.gif

You just watch those normal rip/vcd/bt quality movie? That is too expensive and waste to use this DIVX player to watch. If your purpose is this, maybe you can get more cheaper one. Sarotech and divx 2.5" player is less than $500 without HDD. I m upgrade from those player. Now lying around collect dust. sad.gif

Canot direct download using divx. The only way is using NAS. Divx and HDX player is same. The most important is, it must able too play many video/audio format and codec.

Anybody try 1.5T or 1.0T HDD in your TVIX player? Can the player support this HDD? My 750GB HDD on the 6500HD player almost full. Thinking of changing the int HDD to bigger size.

WD get hot? I am using the WD green power series....it actually run cooler than the seagates.

Added on November 28, 2008, 6:56 pmif you really want space...should look into NAS enclosures.....with 4 bays....1.5TBx4...WAHAHAHAHAHAHA
*
I read it from tvix forum. Maybe he stay at middle east. biggrin.gif Well than WD is my choice since the price is cheaper than seagate. Wah bro, NAS raid enclosure cost a boom. Not yet add the HDD. I did think this before. Not worth it. I already have WD mybook 1TB ext HDD attach to 6500HD. But already 90% full.
If want a larger space, I rather sell away my 6500HD and get a HTPC with many RAID HDD slot. That is more cost effective. smile.gif
