Ah ok ...nice router but i just like Ubiquiti ecosystem integration ..even though its overprice AF for some stuff especially POE switches.

I guess some 800mbps users might no need to wait for next year in order to get the free 1/2gbps upgrade.
The reason i said is because some area should already complete the device upgrade in past few months. I actually saw TM people do something in early this year on my taman area TM box/outdoor cabinet (the box just locate straight in front of my house) and multiple time of maintanance notification at night. And since some people actually subscribe for 2gbps which mean some area actually already capable for 2gbps. This post has been edited by go626201: Oct 5 2023, 10:59 AM |

QUOTE(Oltromen Ripot @ Oct 5 2023, 11:38 AM) Maybe more discount?like reducing to RM279 or something? Since while turbo time,800mbps can get lower to RM149 or something,it might be possible for 2gbps to get more discount. |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Oct 5 2023, 01:38 PM) Fast.com speed can by control to hit higher speed...It is not possible to hit the 1gbps speed without changing the BTU, And of course with wifi ,then it is possible, since wifi is capable for with AC 2x2 160mhz 1700mbps, or AX 2x2 160mhz 2404mbps. But in the end, under most situation,it is still not 100% of time can hit max 2gbps speed with wifi. around 1.7G is expected from my opinion. Edit: Correction for speed. 2Gbps lah...
But i think most people with 2G plan also utilize max 1G only. As most people using wifi not really hit for the max speed, just for normal browsing usage. |

QUOTE(Xefron @ Oct 5 2023, 02:21 PM) they want to do this upgrade exercise with less truck rolls needed and change of equipment since all these activities will incur cost at their side. 800M upgrade to 1/2g is almost the same cost for them, the only difference is profit between giving free upgrade for 1G or 2G.They just give same set ONR to 1 or 2G plan user. In my opinon, they actually didn't need to provide new ONR to 1G plan, since without changing to 2.5G ONR ,user is not possible to hit more than 940mbps with ethernet, and even for wifi,it is still having multi factor that causing the wifi speed lower than 1G for the end device. And most important: TM is responsible for guarantee provide minimum 90% of speed, which mean 900mbps+ is already match to the requirements. QUOTE(Xefron @ Oct 5 2023, 02:35 PM) Indeed, this is the reason why 800Mbps users will be upgraded to 1Gbps – there's a higher likelihood that no Optical Network Terminal (ONT) changes will be necessary. Customers can continue using the existing 1Gbps Ethernet port. However, it's important to note that the actual speed of Gigabit Ethernet may not reach the theoretical capacity. Factors such as network protocol overhead and re-transmissions due to collisions or temporary failures can prevent data transfer from reaching a full 1Gbps rate. I dont think so,if like that why TM still provide current 1Gbps plan with new set ONR device. So it must be given a new set of ONR,in order to match the CPE replacement that wrote on early today. But i still hope that TM might just call some of us for 2Gbps free upgrade with 2years contract renew for immediate upgrade without waiting for next year(which might need until July 2024) |

QUOTE(BenYeeHua @ Oct 5 2023, 02:56 PM) The new AIO modem for 2Gbps best in saving cost in long term. I think it is causing more problem for current 1/2Gbps users, since the provided ONR is not firmware optimized, which is making the internet experience worse. It avoided overhead issues and allow customer to turn on only 1 DEVICE, and TM can having access to both MODEM+ROUTER feature. As China doing this for 5-7 years, it is likely TM follow them if the costing is better. Still, TM can now enforcing customer to rebind 24 month of contract if this AIO modem rosak, unlike the old Modem + router 2 device solution, most customer just buying new router or get FoC for modem replacement. TM should just provide additional selection for user to pay a one-time fee for a better ONR/BTU,even without 2.5G port. Or even better with 2.5G port, which can save for their cost and may earn abit money from providing those ONR/BTU. Instead of letting 3rd party people to provide and sell those device, which also might affect the unifi network. |

AX 2X2 wifi adapter will be able to hit more than 1gbps...
But the problem is the Dlink ONR is still not 100% stable for running 2gbps... |

QUOTE(BenYeeHua @ Oct 5 2023, 09:58 PM) Yup, which means that, you need to recontract SWU 5.0 2 years later, to get a better ONR router for free. As long as TM giving free 2gbps upgrade,i dont think there is any problem for me,even need recontract for 2years. Or mess up with a better ONR which kind of void the TM Fiber setup. I just buy gpon stick and use my own Mikrotik Router. |
