Hello everyone, I recently engaged with a interior designer who handled my condo's renovation. It was around 80% completed when I moved in.

Today, when I reach home, I discovered my whole unit flooded. All the way from living room sofa, kitchen, master room and 80% of the whole area.

The pipes have probably leaked for hours by the time I reached home around 8pm.

I'm concerned about my new carpentry, furniture, floor tiles, or any other water damage. I know my unit will never be the same anymore.

I'm very depressed. Please help guys...

What should I do? I spent so much money into this renovation...

Can I sue the contractor for all the water damage? They are just a sole proprietor...

Please help...

Update:
Contractor came the next day and found the issue. He claims the copper pipe (linked to water tank heater) vibrates a lot which eventually lead to the pipe fitting getting loose over time (I just moved in like 10 days). He said he will tighten the fitting and add additional support to the copper pipe to reduce the vibration so it doesn't happen again. I have no idea if this contractor is just bullshitting or not.

The fix (new update):
Contractor "tighten" the fitting/connector and added additional support all around the pipes. Does this solve the problem permanently? I have no idea. Everyday i enter my house, there is a dark cloud floating on top of me, wondering when the next leak will happen again. I will most likely get another consultation from another plumber soon.

What causes the leak?
Developer bad workmanship also can cause leak. How to know whose at fault?

Your downstairs neighbour might also need compensation from you

You should use the wet vacuum machine and expose the affected area to sunlight. I experienced a similar leak three months ago, and the apartment's cleaner helped me suck up the water, preventing damages to my laminate furniture. Unfortunately, the water and moisture did cause floor warping later. So, consider myself lucky since I only need to spend 1k plus to sanding the floor.

Any idea how it will leak to downstairs? Does the damage come from me or can I claim that from contractor?

If the waterproofing in the bathroom fails, it could leak into the unit below. And whatever damages incurred u need to pay.

Better check the owner below just avoid anything further damages.

Don't answer a question with another question.... it is not helpful

Hope you have turned off the main water pipe, Dry the whole place and call the plumber to look for the leak tomorrow.

Mine is timber floor and moisture was trapped under the wood. You may want to contact your SPC installer to see if he could dismantle and dry your SPC to prevent moisture trapped below. For my other furniture, since I dried them within hours, they are okay. I only suffered minimum damages. You need to suck out the moisture and water asap.

water will sip through your tiles to the bottom floor's ceiling. They will claim from you, and for you to claim from your contractor if they are gonna pay

New water heater can cause vibration until pipes leaking?
I find it hard to believe and would point to poor workmanship.

The leak looks like from copper pipe fitting. If that's the case, whoever installed the copper pipe is at fault.

Looking from the video, the copper piping was unsupported for so long (length)! Whoever did your piping was lazy. Just google how long pipes are allowed to run unsupported. Any vibration will be magnified.

Water hammer esp in high-rise pressurised pipes brows.gif I experienced pipe bursting (the developer provided elcheapo chrome flexihose nothing much better than bicycle tube) when I was at home watching TV

KNS made me drive to hardware shop buy the good stuff (Hokah flexihose), whereby I also replaced the other bathroom's one.. too easy to leak

Yup happen to me too.
Even if you buy top quality hoses, the warranty is only 5 years.
Need to change every 5 years.
Not joking, because the 6th year the hose burst again.

Ya, the effect of water hammer in highrise buildings usually is the culprit.

Waterproofing is only done at the bathroom areas. If other areas are flooded, especially over the night, chances are the water has already sipped into your floor. If left untreated for a prolonged period, it will cause molding. Best to get someone to check the condition, and see what rectification could be necessary.
