QUOTE(vearn27 @ Dec 30 2007, 06:52 PM)
Haha... honestly, at first I opt for Nvidia G92 8800GT or 8800GTS too tongue.gif. But then someone posted side-by-side comparison between G92 8800GT and HD3870 along with some comparison did by reviewers on the Internet. I must say indeed Nvidia show better scores on benchies and also FPS, however quality wise... I felt Ati leading the Nvidia smile.gif.

I did further reading and checked the garage sales, seems some ppl ditching their Nvidia for Ati tongue.gif. Thus, I made up my mind to score myself the HIS HD3870 IceQ3 version thumbup.gif... still waiting for it to be available locally blush.gif

nice . ICEQ3 seires i never have one b4 tongue.gif . how the coolling performance .?

maybe u can think of 3870+third party cooler .

QUOTE(Doom @ Dec 30 2007, 07:08 PM)
hhehe totally agree ..... I tried both NV and ATI all the time ... gaming at other people PC to save my own money to test the cards ...

NV does excel and better bang of money for certain games ...

however is the consistent performance and image quality of ATI card that keep me at the dark sides for years ...

tried 8800GTS 320Mb, 8600 and 8500 series ..... it just ain't there when comes to quality of image but those card enjoyed for higher FPS ....

beside movie on ATI is much better than on NV .... which I enjoyed the most...

furthermore most of the card now days could achieved FPS more than 50 in most game at considerable high settings ... so there's no harm to sacrifice few more FPS just to enjoy better quality of image....

Wanted to get 3870 but too much of dilemma for me now .. probably wait until next generation card ... see got major advancement or not...
*
hmm u using x2900xt . maybe u should wait for R680 . hehe

btw welcom all to the dark sides lol tongue.gif

Heh, it's alright. I always feel free to receive any comment, suggestion, recommendation and even critic. Isn't this is the purpose of forum and the reason this thread is here? smile.gif

I doesn't really know much regarding Zalman's cooler, but one I know that it gives some decent performance and many users like it very much. However for me, due to personal preference, I doesn't fancy much with the design of Zalman's cooler tongue.gif (no offense and no hard feeling yea? wink.gif). If I'm not mistaken, HIS started their IceQ version during the X800 series and now even the reference HSF of HD3870 seems identical to the IceQ design.

As long as it doesn't overheat and at a very good working temperature, I'm happy with it as most probably I wouldn't go for any OC on the card itself smile.gif. Man... when this HIS HD3870 IceQ3 Turbo Edition will be available? cry.gif
*
AIYO just a out look only ma . Zalman cooler is very good in performance .

i dont like the look at the 1st time also . but my last GC x1900xt really hot . so i have no choice but change with zalman ZV9 cooler . and it work great make the idle temp to 40-45C. then i start to love it

even now i using Hd3870 with zalman Zv9 .

idle 40-45
loading 51-59

for IceQ3 i never try b4 so i donno the coolling performance . any HD3850 ICEQ3 can share expriences.

#Zhen Wei
dark side or dark force is ATI lol .

and the picture quality is better.

mine reach 100C for jst playing SUDEKI (fan speed set at fix 35)

Crysis, will reach 100C easily with the stock fan speed of 25-30

very hot card indeed.

I have tried ATI tool to set fan speed, auto fan speed wont work. Switch back to RIVA tunner and set it to Fix 40 for the moment.

anyone here can recommend the fix fan speed for Sapphire 3870?
*
set at least 60% fan speed when play games . 60% noisy is acceptable .
