cannot opt out, you can block them from entering house compound, but they also can terminate contract to sell electric to you. Afraid emp maybe can ask them install another place, you have to pay more for installation, or get certified contractor to do it. Create housing or something?

TNB will replace all meters with smart meters. No choice - it’s a matter of when.

I am now enjoying reduced usage bills ever since TNB installed my smart meter about two years ago.

Perhaps my old analog meter was faulty

My old meter was 9 years old, when they changed to smart meter, honestly no difference in electric bill. Average about the same only.

So those who claimed spike either that month coincidently use more electric, or their old meter got problem.

Why coincidently? Is because I find many people don't know how air cond works. They thought on 8 hours on a cold day/night will use same electric as 8 hours on a hot day/night

mine too.
the old meter inaccuracy can go two ways, either the disc moving slower or faster.

but ts only believe that changing to smart meter confirm increase bill.

Unless they can't pay you a visit on the scheduled installation.

Or can people choose to opt out of the installation?
Not asking for why it's good etc. Just want to know if people want to opt out... can.. or cannot? if can, how? If anyone went through a proper procedure, then just share, if not...

I will remove all trolling comments like asking to cut TNB and live in jungle, offgrid etc...

The meter belongs to TNB, whether to change or install is subject to their decision.

The reason why TNB change the meter because a lot of people tamper and steal electricity with the old meter. And also the manual meter is less accurate over time.

From TNB point of view it is necessary.

Those who refuse to change generally has bad intention so i do not see there is a reasonable justification.

One of my neighbor locked the gate when they went out for work, so their legacy meter still the wheel spinning type, skipped previous digital meter and recent smart meter installation.

I'm not sure will TNB take any action or just ignore those on older meter type?

not only that,
this is AMI meter,

which used for billing collection, load management and etc

for them easier to manage the load across area.
which include HES and MDMS.

depend your luck

new smart meter have accuracy of 1% as of IEC62052 standard.

old meter which unknown accuracy.

if some spoil meter, they can go 1% to 100% faster or slower.

so new meter, will ensure it accurate.
