Hi to all,i'm newbie in Eee PC,just got it tongue.gif

suppose i want to watch *rmvb movie on it,

1) to download the " lazyeeepc_0.0.4.1.tgz ",install it, OR
2) follow the instructions here > "http://eeelinux.blogspot.com/2007/11/lazyeeepc_26.html"

or they are both the same ? Any lagging or pixelation issue when watch *rmvb?

Any update to enable webcam on pidgin MSN or YM ?

Added on January 23, 2008, 6:21 pmadd reply myself sad.gif

i just found another forum saying we can install Real Player which specially make for Xandros Linux as in Eee PC.The link is here :

http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=95477

however, someone mentioned there's only sound but no video when streaming *rmvb but after installing the "W32Codec",everything is fine.

My questions:

1)is this better then the one recommend by our forumer here, which u dun have to install Real Player but using the default player to play the *rmvb?

2)Where can i found files like "/usr/lib "? Do i need to "type" in root? How can i copy/paste the "drvc.so" file?

Another useful tips to change desktop apprearances,

http://zinnidesign.blogspot.com/2007/11/ee...gn-beta-10.html

but i stuck at #SECTION 1,instruction 3,"Navigate to the folder /opt/xandros/share/" < how can i navigate to that folder?

Sorry for newbie Qs bit i'm really new in this blush.gif

To play RMVB files.. well someone made an easy installer.

Go here :- http://rt.openfoundry.org/Foundry/Project/...load/?Queue=863

download the 0.0.3 version, then find where u downloaded it to, right click on the gz file and select extract all, it'll extract the files into a lazyeeepc folder, enter that folder and you'll see another folder, and a file as well, a python file, double click the python script file.

it's in chinese, ensure the first option with the word debian is checked, then ensure the last option with the word rmvb is checked.

It will now start to download files from the internet.. it WILL take some time, it'll pop up a mesasgebox with a lightbulb once it's done.

Added on November 17, 2007, 2:01 amthen you need to restart, but after that rmvb will be playable.

SELF ANSWER AGAIN !!!! whistling.gif Hope this help for those who just got his Eee PC,still running on Xandoras Linux and wish to watch *rmvb on it. smile.gif

Thanks to marauderz(where is he? long time didnt see he post),the link given is correct rclxms.gif

1)download the latest 0.0.4.1 version

2)If u know how to read Chinese, follow the step by step tutorial, the link : http://eeelinux.blogspot.com/2007/11/lazyeeepc_26.html (even u dunno chinese,u can still follow the pics attched,it's quite simple)

3)after double click the lazyeeepc.py ,it take quite long to finish the process, roughly about 3-4 minutes, just be patient.

4)restart the E PC after that,now u can watch *rmvb in ur E pc,enjoy !!! biggrin.gif

after gathering informations on "installing Window XP on Eee PC",i'm thinking of installing XP on it as well. tongue.gif But i hv some questions for that, newbie ma sad.gif :

1) Which will u recommend, full window XP SP2 or nLite XP? ( If running on 1G RAM and 4G SDHC)

2)B4 installing XP,u need to set "bios of OS installation" to "start" and after end,set it to "end"? ( that's when Eee still in Lunix, rite?)

3)Is it recommend to create a 100MB(or bigger?) ram disk as temparary internet storage?

4)Is it better to turn off paging file?

5)How to create "123MB for fixed ram drive"(or bigger?)

6)How to set "paging file 64max, IE, XP temp to ram drive, firefox cache dir to ram drive too" ?

7)Is it recommend to change ram from 1G to 2G and add a 4G SDHC/8G SDHC?

Thank u very much biggrin.gif

after gathering informations on "installing Window XP on Eee PC",i'm thinking of installing XP on it as well. tongue.gif  But i hv some questions for that, newbie ma  sad.gif  :

1) Which will u recommend, full window XP SP2 or nLite XP? ( If running on 1G RAM and 4G SDHC)
A: If you think you pro enough, then go nlite XP, which can get 2.7G free space after disable the paging file since you has 1G RAM.
Regular XP pro still can get 1.3G with full updates, but only windows + Antivirus (AVG free) without application.

2)B4 installing XP,u need to set "bios of OS installation" to "start" and after end,set it to "end"? ( that's when Eee still in Lunix, rite?)
A: Yes. If not, the installation window will has many problem. after that need to set back to "Finished" in order to get USB 2.0, if not, it just run 1.1 and webcam is disabled.

3)Is it recommend to create a 100MB(or bigger?) ram disk as temparary internet storage?
A: RAMDISK can be made like 256-512mb or more if u use 1G RAM. i set mine for 384mb as ramdisk. Move windows temp, IE temp, fire fox temp to there. But cant feel the changes....But will minimize the usage for SSD... (although the data proof that SSD can last longer than regular HDD...)

4)Is it better to turn off paging file?
A: If you has 1G RAM or more, you can disable it. Since the Paging file make HDD as temporary RAM if RAM memory low.

5)How to create "123MB for fixed ram drive"(or bigger?)
A: Try Google it.....Forget what name of my ramdisk....=.=" rclxub.gif

6)How to set "paging file 64max, IE, XP temp to ram drive,  firefox cache dir to ram drive too" ?
A: Paging is not recommended, but IE and firefox can set it by change the temporary file directory to RAM disk.

7)Is it recommend to change ram from 1G to 2G and add a 4G SDHC/8G SDHC?
A: Currently use 1G RAM (2G at my friend there...will get it by next week) and 8G Class6 SDHC. Some review said no much different for 1G and 2G RAM....As i know is, we can get the different if we open much much more web page...

Thank u very much  biggrin.gif

Shut down time for nlite XP pro is almost 10sec or below, depend what programs are running background. vlite Vista Ultimate........haiz....less than 20sec, but more than 12sec....if windows update done...take around 30sec....(bottle neck for proccessor?)

Battery time....nlite XP will last longer....with Wifi on for surfing net, can tahan 3hrs and still left 20%. Vista still haven't get test yet...

Sorry for my NEWBIE's Qs,after install the full version of SP2 on Eee,what are the 1st few things u need to do? What's the resolution u re setting? PLS HELP !!!

For me,after installed all the drivers,i follow excactly the instructions in Eee's manual book,

Change Virtual Memory > Turn Off Sys Restore > Compressing Disk Drive > Relocating Files > Delete Unnecessary Components > Clearing System Backup Data > Delete Unnecessary Doc Files > Cut the listed Files and backup in SDHC.

After this,i also follow " http://wiki.eeeuser.com/windowsxp " ,under "Installation method to keep SSD writes to a minimum"(some steps are same as in Eee Manual).

Then,i try to increase the resolution to 1024 x 768 (http://wiki.eeeuser.com/how_to_enable_1024x768_and_increase_dpi) but after download the driver,i cant "Update Driver" by Right Click the Display Adapter(only "scan for hardware change" & Prpperties),pls advice.

Any other tweaking i need to do? May i know u guys install Microsoft Office on it? (or openOffice?) What anti-virus u guys using? What's the MUST HAVE application which fit perfect in Eee? (of course must be small lor) tongue.gif

I know some might say that depends on what u want to do with ur Eee tongue.gif . Ok,say i want to type some simple letter (like what i did in Excel,Words,Power Point),watch movies(including *rmvb and most commend format ),surfing online...........

Pls recommend

thanks in advance biggrin.gif

thanks everyone for the valuable informations,i'm sure lots of us will benefit from it rclxms.gif

now i have some idea what i should install after flash to SP2.To make it clear,

1)Suppose i need to watch *rmvb and other format video on Eee,is K-Lite Megapack the most recommended one? All video files can open with Window Media Player after installing the Codec mentioned? (i'm using "StormII" to view video on my current desktop) OR do i need to installed other player like "Media Classic Player"?

2)Between OpenOffice and normal Office, which is more recommended? (i actually need Excel or Power Point too)

3)Will install Pidgin for MSN,Yahoo....

4)WinRAR for extract *** installed
5)Sumatra Port, Foxit Port or Adobe for PDF,which one more recommended?

6)AntiVirus (Either AVG or NOD32)

7)I try to install Driver download online to get 1024x768 display but i cant "update" the driver(like i mentioned in previous post),any idea how can i get it done? *** Solved, like mentioned in 8)

8)By default,i try to set the resolution to 800x600 but everytime after i shut down it come back to 800 x 480 again...how should i keep the 800 x 600? I found not so frendly even with 800 x 600 setting, need to scrool up and down, any better way? (but why with default Linux dont hv such problem?) *** Problem solved, got scaled & non-scrolling 800x600 nowThank u very much. biggrin.gif

hi xeNOS,

yes, manage to get 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 scaled/non-scrolling.The font are ok(not so ugly/weired/compress).I'm using CorelDraw Screen Capture for my desktop to capture some screen shot but dun dare to install on Eee cos seldom use.Can anyone recommend a tiny Screen Capture application and i can show u guys the whole pics if u are interested. For those who want to have a try, just download the Driver and follow step-by step instruction here :

http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=14652

i failed for the 1st 2 times cos downloaded the wrong driver becos if u go to the WIKI section, there're more then one Driver there.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Added on February 21, 2008, 4:57 pmupdate :

after install full SP2 with some applications like Foxit,CCleaner,Media Player Classic (with Real Alternative Codec & K-Lite Codec),MWsnap(screenCapture),Pidgin,WinRAR,AVG7.5Updated,i left 2.72GB free Space,985MB Used.

as request,to show the 800x600 scaled & non-scrolling,i installed MWsnap to capture some screenshots but i found the saved screenshots still appear as 800x600 non-scale.So i just snap it with my camera... hope this helps smile.gif
