both me n waifu been craving hard for some good chinese meal..while taking a short weekend to visit MY would never be enough, we set our eyes on Taiwan.

it's very convenient as the local airport (Komatsu) 20 min away has direct flight to Taipei, and best part of the airport is free parking (for like ~2+ weeks) when taking international flight

quickly put together a 3 days 3 night trip, only need take one day leave.

short and smooth 3 hours flight, imigration suck ass, very long queue..
both unlucky, didn't get anything from the lucky draw


Airport express straight to Taipei main to check in and drop off the luggage first before first round of dinner.
Transport fare are pretty cheap, but got too used to JP's JR gate speed, felt the fare gate was pretty slow.

Walked over to the nearest night market, Ningxia Night Market 寧夏夜市




since no particular plan of what to eat, so simply walk one round and decided on braised meat rice. seems pretty popular store, no place to sit and many ppl queue but not sure why the auntie just let me and my wife sit in front of the shop, skip queue and order makan


ordered vege n a bowl of braised meat rice. holy fuk..one spoon already worth the trip, super nice gelatinous fat sticking all over that smacking lip, ichiban!
and so damn cheap, 40 NTD only


next meal, wanted to try taiwan fried bee hoon


40 NTD also, cheap af but i prefer MY "economy" bee hoon better


also, I never been to a hotter city than Taipei, even at night, it's so fking hot

Day 2
Took the bus and headed over to Jiu fen..came too early so not much stores/shops were open.


tried their fish ball and braised meat noodle, gooding. don't remember how much but it was also pretty cheap

also tried their red yeast meatball dumpling. taste fine but probably won't try again if I come back again. don't really like the texture of the kuih

Day 3
Time to try ori Din Tai Fung for brunch...again, very long queue in the hot weather

shrimp siew mai. I was expecting MY pork n shrimp siew mai but oh wai, it's xiao long bao with shrimp.

more siew mai, not bad but i still miss my childhood siew mai which till today I cannot find back the same taste
also the lao sar bao is nice


ah, this dish..the other tokyo trip I went to Yokohama chinatown, mtfk, it's so bad idk what was I eating, they probably use mochi rice powder to make the skin, taste and texture absolutely lari
this not so terrible but still, prefer MY one

more milk tea. the auntie asked how much sugar I wanted, I told the regular. she was like u sure...very sweet one hor..u sure?
Initially I thought maybe I should take her suggestion but then I remembered, i'm Malaysian so just went with regular sugar
turn out, even regular sugar, tealive kurang kao2 sugar version also sweeter

tried their popiah ice cream. auntie asked whether want coriander, as coriander addict, Yesss please. then auntie mentioned that usually Malaysian and singaporean don't really like it.


not bad, cooling. probably nice for trying once


went to find shelter from heat at a 7-eleven. tried banana milk.


random interesting thing i saw along the way. real time washroom availability

couldn't get more of braised meat rice..so went for another round for supper.
that's where everything started to go down hill real fast.
not delicious de braised meat rice.


Last day
another not delicious braised meat rice for breakfast...
then later I learned from one of my TW follower, that there's generally two type of braised meat rice, one dry like this two pic, and the sticky ones which are godly. I prefer the latter ones.


Rushed over to the airport and checked in..
since still got time, I went over to the other terminal to look for bubble tea. but sad af, T2 bubble tea shop only open at 11am..was there at 10+am

no choice, had to masuk departure already.
and lord behold, bubble tea in front of my gate

tapao2 two cup, one drink on the spot, another brought all the way back to JP



sekian my short taipei food trip.

some key points:
1. summer not for human, so I will never step into TW in summer again
2. braised meat rice and bubble tea alone are worth that return flight ticket

in the end, spent a total of 128k yen in total for everything (flight, hotel, etc.), very cheap n fun trip


can't wait for my MY & BKK trip this coming Friday
all the food waiting for me

Our Taiwan trip nearly the same places. Minus beer, sugary drinks, overrated restaurants.


Jiufen ok morning less pipur then suddenly too many spoil mood punya tempat. Super magnet of gathering tourist there.


Beef with fire extinguisher cooking method is something I won't get used to in their pasar malam.

tw summer weird wan cuz they seldom rain and its really like drought/kemarau season

even msia got rain all year round

I went tokyo not long ago, also hot until not for human.

tunggu la my BKK my BKK trip this 1st sept

ok la, for food pretty okay. but i didn't go other museum or historical sites..spent a lot of time underground or indoor because it's too hot

damn man the heat is one of the kind. even japanese summer also not that bad

thinking whether want to do another winter or spring trip but probably will go HK first

Best braised pork rice in Taipei.

I find a Formosa ru Rou fan pretty good

jiufen beef noodle sucks

there are many nice neef noodles in taipei

I find most Taiwan food to be not amazing, but their braised pork rice with each grain of rice coated with a layer of pork fat to be delicious. I can't find it in Malaysia at all.

Some in fact have no meat literally in it...it's just pork fat and rice. Nice but it's heart attack in a meal.
