Has anyone experienced vertical green line on display on their Android phones after firmware update?

It's a global problem apparently from a Google search, and Samsung is taking a "not my problem" approach in most cases. The phone is over 3 years old.

Green lines also affect other phone brands.

One line from top to bottom of screen pop up a few days ago, it's now 4 lines. Phone is still usable as normal but the lines make some words or numbers less legible unless zoomed in.

Could be a number of causes. worst case scenario is hardware failure....may need to change screen and/or, ribbon cable/battery, which could cost over RM1K if Samsung insists on out-of-warranty payment, and no guarantee the lines won't reappear.

Some people have advised not to quick-charge the battery as it will generate more heat and could create more lines. So now I do slow wireless charging.

The link below explains the problem in more detail. Has anyone use SPR Communication SDN BHD, which specialise in phone repairs? How are their charges?

Would hate to junk the phone as i do like the stylus and jotting ability.

But in case i need to change phone, what's a good phone below RM2K that takes great photos and record decent youtube videos? phones these days are overpriced.......with the exception of the NOte20, I NOW don;t want to pay more than RM2k for a phone......RM1K or under would be better.

Got a quote from SPR to replace screen. Takes 3-4 hours to change screen, 3 month warranty and will cost RM1450. Ouch! SPR says screen is original screen....which means coming from Samsung....the OLED screen may still pop up lines later on.....

The lines still there even when I turned the phone into Safe Mode.

I gave up on Samsung after having 2 devices affected by this issue. Normally happen after a fw update because the phone got hot during the process probably. It is a hardware damage btw, need to buy new screen to fix it.

Oneplus 8 series are getting this issue on their display too. Seems like the OLED are manufactered by Samsung as well. But Oneplus Malaysian are still honouring this as a manufacturer defect and are replacing screens for free for those who bought MY sets.

Let's assume Samsung has a blardy screen defect that it's not admitting as it would caused it millions to launch a global recall....so i'm not so sure replacing the screen would fix the problem and let me use the phone in peace for the next 5 years.

the samsung A54 looks good but again the screen issue has not been settled. I don;t want to throw good money down the drain if the screen is going to cause probs within 3 years of use. I'm not the type to change phones every 2 years. In my book, every 7 to 10 years is reasonable.

Went to samsung service centre in 1 utama yesterday to check repair costs. The cost to replace screen, battery and labour is RM1370....But u have hav to leave phone with them for 3 to 5 days...backup yourphone and do factory reset before passing phone to them. 3 months warranty....Not reassuring considering lines may pop up 6 months, 12 months or 18 months down the line.

But if you go with SPR (Google them....they have website and facebook and many branches), you get your phone within 3 to 4 hours on same day but cost RM1450. Warranty also 3 months. They fix all brands of phones.

what alternative midrange phones (non Samsung) have proven to be reliable without screen issues despite multiple firmware updates? Something in the region of RM800 to RM1,500.

IMO since OLED screen tends to be fragile, (note that not just samsung that kena green lines, other brands, including oneplus/oppo/vivo/xiaomi even apple iphone also got chance kena)

Just get models with IPS lcd screen while still around. Vivo IQOO Z7 or oneplus CE 3 lite for example

Edit: dont get confused by vivo. There are two variant of iqoo z7, chinese/sea version use IPS and 782g chip while india version using oled and mtk d920
