Any Public Banker IT staff here?

Can tell me why you guys decided to design the app like this?

I woke up this morning to my Pbe App needing an update, and the Playstore telling me that the app is no longer compatible with my phone.

How am I suppose to do anything with Public Bank now when EVERYTHING on Public Bank needs Pbesecuresign?
Can't move money out of the account to another bank without the app that I can't even reinstall on in Playstore, it is no longer an option.



P/S: Using Huawei Nova 3i, guess I need to withdraw Cash now like some uncivilized barbarian.

Ask ppl why, expect ppl give answer. But didn't give basic info like what phone and what android version.

I can see where it goes:
1. Buy iOS device
2. Buy Samsung. Replace every 4 years.
3. Buy Mi/Redmi. Flash custom rom every 4 years knowing that it will be very slow.

other bank apps got minimum Android 9 if not mistaken.

Android Version 9.

No update that I can find to 10; my phone is old I know, but no warning whatsoever from Public Bank is what triggered me.

one way is change to newer phone
another method is go home branch request token for free (rm50 if you lost though)

Funny right? Last time when I’m at public bank, Many uncles aunties are told that their phones can’t support the apps. The staffs ask them to change phone.

But think on the bright side. U just need to fork out maybe around 1k or less for a new phone to use the app, instead of losing much much more in your bank due to some scam or hack due to lack of securities patch in lower android.

Yeah, I've checked. And9 was launched a year before pandemic. Meaning to say, the developer now is only maintaining versions that's 5 years and lower..

Might as well partner with Digi/Maxis/Celcom for new phone contract

Not sure if they have any other way to inform or any disclaimer in their app or banking system.

But being PB customers for so long time, I didn't receive such info before. So maybe they should improve on it.

Anyhow, small matter only la. If really can't use app, then use your phone browser lo if really urgent.

All these problems apply only to the app, right? If you try and access using desktop, how?

I can log in no issue, the problems lies in the PbeSecuresign that you can only access through the app.

Want to transfer money in any way, if you don't have the app, online browser log in might as well be just me looking at numbers on the screen with no control.

This is true when it comes to end user.

When our IT dept request them to reboot after some security patches

Bruh, my emails are clean, I always check the details proper from any Bank.

Ambank is going to do the same also. No Android 10+ cannot use app.

Sooner or later other banks will folo one.

Nowadays app is like the key to your deposit, without the key you cannot do anything with your money except to go find an ATM kiosk and do transfer from there. And since all banks are doing the same thing, now you have to treat your phone as a very important device to access your money. Losing it is very bad for you. And you need to keep it working such as getting new update or buying new phone from time to time.

Sometimes bank does thing for your own good, your phone is so old that it lack of alot of security patch which will open for vulnerabilities… in the end when you lost money, you will blame the bank not ownself ..

My problem is not the requirement to update, my problem is that no proper communication between bank and customer.

I know my phone is old, but don't lock me out without properly informing me that you are going to change the locks.

Crazy world we're living where banking security responsibility is passed to the phone and user while bank wash hand.

I wish they would start using passkeys or TOTP via third party apps like Google Authenticator. Each bank has their own app wadepak.

Believe it or not PBB actually realise that many account holders got the same issue huashit or samseng old phones (from 2018 or older) still stuck at android 9

That's why PBB give alternative for FREE: a physical token device that resemble a mini calculator you can get for free from PBB. Of course you may need to get it during lunch hour or take leave to go branch for that


If you don't want the hassle of getting to the branch, then no choice get a new phone only can use app

No warning? PBB send out early notice in app and email. Either you rarely use the app or never check email or just blind.

For this kind of stupid user better get the free token, no need to worry for a long time.

Aside from the last one that I could have missed, the first 4 topics didn't have ANDROID 9 IS NO LONGER supported as the contents. That bottom grey area is not properly conveyed.

Yes I did receive notification to use Pbe Securesign, as I have been using it for many years.
But I have never received a notice about Android 9.0 not being supported, as per my post above, those pictures are not specifying Android 9 being locked out.

No need to justify anything else. Just say salah email, salah bank, salah newspaper, salah DAP, salah PMX, salah Shamsiah, salah grey colour, but not salah me for not reading email properly.

they need to comply to bnm new rules especially the sms thing and new apps dont support older androids. or perhaps your droid is rooted? else just upgrade ler. can get newer used phones for rm400.

I suggest you use the free token since you really don't know how to read email or in app notification.

Not going to cost much compared to losing money to hacker or scammer due to outdated poor security phone

More like if you house(the bank) security was breached immediately blame it's your neighbor or the police were the culprits.

Did you ever consider the house occupants within among one of your family members were suspects?

If I'm a long time customer and old, I might consider change bank and move my funds just as investors losing trust in this country moving out all their FDIs.

PB is not the only bank in Malaysia.

Also I did mentioned before if you're going to make drastic changes and push for update on Google Play Store, why can't you just maintain the usability of the old apps for a time for the transition? Why immediately disable the old version and block the update for older Android at the Play Store? You say cooling period for transactions but no cooling period on Android apps? At least when the update is pushed users will find out their old Android can no longer support the new app but for emergency reasons still able to use the old version of the apps for SecureSign for some time without being blocked over the weekend or await collection from the bank branches counters.

It is more like ensuring that the key holder is not cloning the key and give it out to everyone by making it very hard to do so and that your zip lock is good enough to not have anyone siphons your key out.
