The battles for Bakhmut have reignited with Ukraine suffering heavy losses as its troops are unable to penetrate Russia's defences. In the latest, Russian artillery was seen crushing Ukrainian troops as it hunted them down in forests and rained non-stop fire. Earlier, six Ukrainian pilots also lost their lives in combat missions in Bakhmut. Meanwhile in Kupyansk, Russian T-72B3 tank crews are stalling Ukrainian advances.



The United States is seeking to deploy its nuclear weapons in the UK to counter Russia's threat amid the war in Ukraine. According to Pentagon budget documents analysed by a US think-tank and British media, the UK's Lakenheath air base is likely to host nukes and F-35A fighter jets. This will be the first time the US has moved its nuclear weapons outside the country since 2008.

Vremyevsky sector: situation as of 14.00 on August 31, 2023

Artillery duels continue in the Vremyevsky sector. Russian troops are actively engaged in counter-battery combat. According to the Warrior of the Far East, three units of motor vehicles, as well as two enemy howitzers, were destroyed in different areas.

🔻However, on the western and southwestern outskirts of Staromayorsky, there is a concentration of forces of the 23rd mechanized brigade and the 128th brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The 120-mm mortar crews of the 128th brigade are conducting massive shelling of the positions of the Russian Armed Forces in the landings to the west.

Also, Ukrainian formations transferred 80 mobilized to the area of Balka Hrusheva in the direction of Priyutne to reinforce the 31st mechanized brigade. Units of the 31st brigade also occupy the lines northeast of the village, preparing for an attack.

🔻Judging by the movements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy plans to attack the strongholds of the Russian army northeast of Priyutne and west of Staromayorsky after artillery preparation, which is due to their advantageous location.

The positions between Priyutny and Staromayorsky are located in landings at tactically advantageous heights, from which the current lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Staromayorsky and Urozhaynoye are shot. And for the movement to the south, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need to capture this bridgehead, so the efforts in this area are not surprising.

Orekhovsky area
: situation as of 15.00 on August 31, 2023

🔻In the afternoon of yesterday, two assault groups of the 15th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine conducted reconnaissance in force northwest of Verbove with the support of artillery and two Su-25 attack aircraft.

The attacks were repulsed, but after a couple of hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began massive shelling at the forward positions of Russian troops in Verbove and its environs. After artillery preparation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine again went on the offensive.

🔻With the forces of four assault detachments of the 82nd Airborne Brigade and the 46th Assault Brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces of Ukraine, the enemy again attacked the strongholds of the Russian Armed Forces, operating from the area of Balka Chubenkov. The artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which recently received a batch of cluster munitions, supported the attackers with fire.

At the moment, the attacks have been repulsed, and the Ukrainian paratroopers have again suffered losses and retreated to their original ones. Due to the lack of forces in the assault groups, the formations of the 118th mechanized brigade, which were in reserve, were moved from Malaya Tokmachka to the area west of Verbove.

🔻Now the Ukrainian command intends to concentrate its efforts on covering Verbove from the west and reaching the flank of Russian troops to block supply routes in the village.

Kherson direction

A very curious situation is developing on the islands southwest of Kherson: Ukrainian formations have been shelling the island of Nestryga with mortars and artillery for several days.

And if this happens, it turns out that Russian troops are either trying to gain a foothold or are already on the island. And in this situation, control over the islands of Belogrudy and Maly Belogrudy is also for the RF Armed Forces.

To strengthen the 131st orb, assault groups of the 121st Territorial Defense Brigade with a total number of up to 120 people were deployed in the vicinity of Tokarevka. Together with 131 orbs, they are planned to be used to attack Korsunka.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has called on the state-run defence manufacturers to increase weapons production and go into 24/7 mode. Shoigu paid a visit to the production facilities of JSC Concern VKO 'Almaz-Antey' and also inspected the implementation of the state defence order at defence industry enterprises in the Tula region. This comes as Ukraine is all set to receive the US-made F-16 fighter jets in the coming months.


Russia’s fighter jet MiG-31 forced a Norwegian military plane to retreat over the Barents Sea after Moscow claimed that the foreign aircraft was approaching its airspace. The Russian Defence Ministry said, “The Russian fighter jet identified the aerial target as a Norwegian Air Force P-8A Poseidon base patrol aircraft. After an approach of the Russian fighter jet, the foreign military aircraft made a U-turn away from the state border of the Russian Federation.”

▫️The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.

▫️ In Kupyansk direction, units of the Zapad Group of Forces supported by aviation and artillery in the course of offensive actions improved the situation along the front line.

▫️ Over the past 24 hours, five counter-attacks by assault detachments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade, 32nd and 43rd mechanised brigades have been repelled near Sergeevka and Novoegorovka (Lugansk People's Republic).

▫️ The enemy has lost up to 50 Ukrainian troops, two motor vehicles, one Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzer, as well as two D-20 howitzers.

▫️ An ammunition depot of the AFU 66th Mechanised Brigade was wiped out close to Petrovskoye (Lugansk People's Republic).

▫️ In Donetsk direction, units of the Yug Group of Forces in close co-operation with aviation and artillery repelled six attacks by AFU assault detachments near Bogdanovka, Andreevka, Mayorsk, and Avdeevka (Donetsk People's Republic).

▫️ In Donetsk direction, up to 365 Ukrainian troops, three U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, two armoured personnel carriers, 32 motor vehicles, one Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery howitzer, as well as D-20 and D-30 howitzers, have been neutralised.

▫️During the day, the enemy's losses in this direction have amounted to 55 Ukrainian troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, as well as Msta-B and D-30 howitzers.

◽️ In South Donetsk direction, units of the Vostok Group of Forces delivered strikes at AFU manpower and hardware clusters near Staromayorskoye and Urozhaynoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

◽️ Up to 100 Ukrainian troops, four motor vehicles, two Msta-B howitzers, as well as one U.S.-made M119 howitzer have been neutralised during the day.

◽️ Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Group of Forces have engaged AFU manpower and hardware in 128 areas during the day.

◽️ One Ukrainian S-200 surface-to-air missile system has been neutralised near Slavyansk (Donetsk People's Republic).

▫️ A command post and a military field training camp of the AFU 72nd Mechanised Brigade were eliminated close to Ugledar and Selidovo (Donetsk People's Republic).

◽️ Air defence forces shot down two HIMARS MLRS shells, two JDAM guided bombs, and two HARM anti-radiation missiles during the day.

◽️ Furthermore, during the day, 32 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, including Tu-141 Strizh, were intercepted over the settlements of Kovalevka, Golikovo (Lugansk People's Republic), Soledar, Blagodatnoye (Donetsk People's Republic), Mirnoye, Novoukrainka, Tokmak (Zaporozhye region), and Obryvka (Kherson region).

📊 In total, 466 airplanes and 247 helicopters, 6,266 unmanned aerial vehicles, 434 air defence missile systems, 11,578 tanks and other armoured combat vehicles, 1,147 combat vehicles equipped with MRLS, 6,145 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 12,570 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.
