Morning briefing of the Ministry of Defense of Russia (September 1, 2023)

⚡️Russian Defence Ministry report on the progress of the special military operation

(25 August - 1 September 2023)

▫️ From 25 August to 1 September 2023, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched 5 group long-range naval and airborne high-precision strikes at AFU command posts, radio electronic reconnaissance centres, port infrastructure, ammunition and western weaponry depots, as well as military airfields.

▫️ The strikes disrupted AFU strategic radio interference system control, wiped out workshops of uncrewed surface vehicles used by the Kiev regime to launch terrorist attacks, air defence systems, MLRS, hardware, as well as Western-made air-launched weapons.

▫️ Over the past week, the combat enviroment was the most tense and complicated in Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions.

▫️ In Zaporozhye direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted to launch 44 attacks at positions of the Russian Forces to no avail.

▫️ To reinforce efforts to break through Russian Forces defences, one of the last formation of AFU strategic reserve, namely 71st Jaeger Brigade, is deployed in this direction.

▫️ As a result of committed and competent actions of the Zaporozhye Group of Forces units, all AFU attacks have been successfully repelled.

▫️ Over the past week, more than 960 Ukrainian troops, 24 armoured fighting vehicles of different modifications, 28 motor vehicles, and 45 field artillery guns have been neutralised.

▫️ Severe AFU manpower losses in the course of so-called 'counteroffensive' are caused by the Russian Forces effective strikes at Ukrainian armoured hardware at distant approaches.

▫️ AFU formation command purposefully throws manpower in assaults as cannon fodder to cross Russian Forces minefields on foot with no fire support.

▫️ In South-Donetsk direction, the most intensive battles took place south of Staromayorskoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

▫️ Professional command and control, cohesive actions of the Russian troops with support of aviation and artillery thwarted the enemy's offensive plans.

▫️ Combined strikes and committed actions of the Vostok Group of Forces repelled all AFU attacks.

▫️ Over the past week, the enemy has suffered losses of up to 1,025 Ukrainian troops, 13 armoured fighting vehicles, 26 motor vehicles, as well as 26 field artillery guns.

▫️ In Donetsk direction, numerous attempts of the Ukrainian Soledar Group of Troops to break through Russian Forces defences near Klescheevka and Maloilyinovka (Donetsk People's Republic) have been foiled.

▫️ During the week, the Russian Forces repelled 36 attacks in which the enemy has lost up to 2,385 Ukrainian troops, 30 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, 75 motor vehicles, and 21 field artillery guns.

▫️ In Kupyansk direction, the Zapad Group of Forces improved tactical situation by seizeing enemy strongholds and key heights.

▫️ AFU units suffered heavy damage due to skillful use of weapons.

▫️ Over the past week, the enemy has suffered losses of up to 470 Ukrainian troops, 22 armoured fighting vehicles, 21 motor vehicles, as well as 18 field artillery guns.

▫️ In Krasny Liman direction, the Tsentr Group of Forces repelled 14 AFU attacks over the past week.

▫️ Over the past week, the enemy has suffered losses of up to 540 Ukrainian troops, 22 armoured fighting vehicles, 13 motor vehicles, as well as 10 field artillery guns.

▫️ In Kherson direction, the main goal of Russian troops was to deliver strikes at AFU manpower, engage in counterbattery warfare, search and eliminate sabotage and reconnaissance groups, as well as impede enemy amphibious assaults on islands.

▫️According to the data provided by prisoners of war from the 123rd Territorial Defence Brigade, the majority of AFU personnel waive to cross the Dnieper River as they are afraid of inevitable death from Russian strikes.

▫️In this direction, the enemy has lost up to 230 Ukrainian troops, 31 motor vehicles, and 19 field artillery guns over the past week.

▫️The Black Sea Fleet monitors the situation round the clock in the Black Sea waters by all means of reconnaissance.

▫️On 29-30 August, the Black Sea naval aircraft managed to foil AFU special operation detachment's attempt to land on Crimean coast to launch terrorist attacks. Russian naval aircraft neutralised four boats and up to 50 Ukrainian troops.

▫️Russian Aerospace Forces fighter jets and air defence units have shot down four Ukrainian Air Force aircraft and one helicopter over the past week.

▫️Air defence and electronic warfare systems have downed 35 HIMARS MLRS shells, six JDAM guided bombs, five U.S.-made HARM anti-radiation missiles, as well as one Neptune anti-ship cruise missile, and one S-200 missile converted into a strike version over the past week.

▫️In addition, 281 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, including Tu-141 Strizh drone, as well as 29 fixed-wing drones were shot down in western regions of the Russian Federation.

The European Union has failed to release €500 million in European Peace Facility funding for Ukraine. The revelations were made by the bloc's foreign policy commissioner Josep Borrell. Borrell claimed that opposition from one of the bloc members resulted in the failure. The country that opposed the funding was identified as Hungary, as per RT.
No more € funds for the corrupt puppet Bandera regime elites and for Zelensky's insatiable appetite for luxury villas and estates around the world. 😁

Putin's statement comes as the U.S. claims "notable progress' in Kyiv's offensive. While the U.S. claims "progress," Russia stated that Ukrainian troops have been pushed back.

Russia thwarted another Ukrainian attempt to target the Crimean bridge. Russian defence ministry said in a statement that its forces destroyed three Ukrainian naval drones that targeted the Crimea bridge on Friday evening and early Saturday morning. Russian MoD called it a 'terrorist attack' by Kyiv regime, adding that the hostile craft was “promptly detected and destroyed” in the Black Sea.

Ukraine may get its first ten Abrams tanks in mid-September
According to the report, the tanks have already been delivered to Germany and will be delivered to Ukraine after repairs

WASHINGTON, September 1. /TASS/. In mid-September, the armed forces of Ukraine may get the first ten US-made M1 Abrams tanks out of the 31 pledged to the Kiev government, the Politico newspaper wrote citing Pentagon officials.

According to the report, the tanks have already been delivered to Germany and will be delivered to Ukraine after repairs.

"The US is committed to expedite delivery of the 31 tanks to Ukraine by the fall," the newspaper quoted US Army Europe and Africa spokesperson Col. Martin O’Donnell as saying.

In his words, 200 Ukrainian servicemen have completed their training course in using M1 Abrams at US training bases in Germany. They are now working to ensure they stay proficient on the tanks at Grafenwoehr Army base in Germany "until the tanks are ready for the battlefield," the newspaper quoted O’Donnell as saying.

M58 Line Charge Demining

*
Someone has been drinking too much western Kool-Aid and watching NATO & Ukro puppet regime propaganda. 🤣

Mine-clearing equipment given to Ukraine by the West is ineffective, noisy, and easy to strike, commander says 😆

A Ukrainian commander criticized Western mine clearing equipment.
He told The Washington Post it was noisy and ineffective and could be blown up.
Ukraine's counteroffensive has stalled as they struggle to clear huge minefields.

Mine-clearing equipment given to Ukrainian forces by the West is "ineffective" because it is noisy, large, and easy to strike, according to a commander speaking The Washington Post.

Officers told the publication that the Ukrainian military had encountered minefields between three and ten miles deep, laid with anti-tank and tripwired anti-personnel mines, in their counteroffensive to drive back Russian forces.

They said that Russian forces had been able to attack specialized minefield-clearing equipment provided to Ukraine by its Western allies, meaning that fields were being cleared by hand by specialist units.

One commander, identified by his call sign 'Oskar,' told the outlet that his unit of the 47th Mechanized Brigade had success before Ukraine launched its counteroffensive using German-made Wisent mine-clearance tanks to clear minefields in the Zaporizhzhia region.

"But now their use is already ineffective, because the enemy expects the appearance of such equipment, which is massive, which is noisy, which is easy to see and, accordingly, to strike," Oskar said.

Gen. Valery Zaluzhny, Ukraine's military chief, told the Post that Ukrainian forces needed more specialist mine-clearing equipment.

"We need special equipment, we need special remote mine-clearance equipment," Zaluzhny said, adding of US-provided M58 Mine Clearing Line Charge systems that "they are also being destroyed, yes. There's nothing wrong with that. It takes a lot of them." A few thousand ought to be enough. nod.gif

A Ukrainian official told the Post that it had only received around 15% of the specialist de-mining equipment it had requested from Western allies. A US official responded that it would provide all the equipment requested, but there were problems providing it on the scale requested in a timely way.

Ukraine launched its much-anticipated counteroffensive in June, seeking to drive Russian forces back from territory it occupies in south and east Ukraine.

So far Ukraine has made limited advances, with Russian forces having dug heavily fortified positions protected by landmines during the winter.

TLDR: The puppet regime lead by the nefarious deceitful 🤡 Zelensky offensive is doomed to failure. 😗

Russia reportedly destroyed a key drone control center in Donetsk region on September 1, days after Kyiv’s biggest coordinated air attack on Moscow since the invasion. The drone control center, a strongpoint for satellite communication, was targeted by Russia’s East Battleground troops. Besides the drone control center, eight artillery items including a towed howitzer were struck by Putin’s army.

Ukraine’s Big Summer Offensive Won’t Win The War Against Russia nod.gif

As the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) celebrate the complete capture of the village of Robotyne, the long-anticipated offensive that began on June 5 could be nearing its culmination. After nearly three months, we can now make some preliminary assessments about the results of Kyiv’s attack, as well as assess potential courses the war may take for the rest of 2023.

Bottom line: The counteroffensive netted marginal tactical success and exacted no meaningful change in the line of contact. No end to the fighting is in sight.

How Did the Offensive Play Out?

Ukraine had been signaling since at least March that it planned to launch a major offensive in the early summer. After a delay in late May to increase stockpiles of ammunition and other supplies, Ukraine launched its attack on June 5 across a broad front, centering on four major axes of advance: Kamianske in the west, Orikhiv and Velyka Novosilka in the center, and Bakhmut in the north.

Ukraine had reportedly assembled 12 mechanized brigades for the operation, manned with up to 40,000 troops. They had spent the better part of a half-year preparing for the attack, and their preparation featured training on combined arms warfare in NATO countries. They were equipped with British Challenger 2 tanks, German Leopard 2 tanks, U.S. Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Stryker armored troop carriers, and other modern NATO kit. Given the circumstances, Ukraine was as prepared as any nation fighting an invasion could be.

But in May, Czech President Petr Pavel ominously warned that it would be “extremely harmful to Ukraine if this counteroffensive fails, because they will not have another chance, at least not this year.” Similarly, a leaked classified report cautioned that U.S. intelligence officials believed the Ukrainian offensive may only produce “modest territorial gains.” Nearly three months after the offensive began, those concerns have been borne out.

On the Velyka Novosilka and Orikhiv fronts, Ukrainian troops managed to push about 10 km, while in the Kamianske and Bakhmut fronts, barely 4 km have been gained. Yet the cost to Ukraine in men and material has been exorbitant. The New York Times reported that a full fifth of the offensive strike force had been damaged or destroyed in just the first two weeks. Shifting to an infantry-centric push did carve a few more kilometers out of Russia’s holdings, but the cost to Ukraine’s troops has been high. shakehead.gif

In mid-August Forbes reported that Ukraine’s 82nd Mechanized Brigade had been committed to the battle on the Velyka Novosilka front, possibly Ukraine’s last operational reserve for the offensive. Almost the only axis where Ukraine is still making slow progress is the Velyka Novosilka front, where Ukraine captured Robotyne. While any victory is welcome, the situation facing Ukraine now is much more daunting than appears.
Ukraine and senior Western officials claim the capture of Robotyne represents a puncture in the first major line of Russian defense, implying that now the battles will get easier and progress faster. But Ukraine faces significant hurdles to push any further.

What Is the Status Today?

First, it is not enough to break through a line of defense and push deeper into enemy lines. Every kilometer of territory captured must be garrisoned and held against expected enemy attacks from the flanks.

Ukraine has apparently used up most of its offensive potential just reaching Robotyne. It is not clear they have sufficient strength in equipment, ammunition, or manpower to both push deeper into Russian lines and still hold the flanks against counterattack. In all likelihood, Ukraine is at the end of its push. It might soon be forced to revert to the defensive to ensure it holds the territory it has wrested back from Russia.

Second, some Ukrainian advocates seem to believe that the Russian side is a static entity, so that each meter of land the UAF recovers is a deepening wound on the enemy. The truth, however, is that Russia is constantly adjusting to new and emerging battlefield realities. The Russian high command likely observed that three of the four axes of attack have largely failed and have been reinforcing the subsequent layers of defense ahead of Robotyne. Thus, the farther Ukraine penetrates in this area, the more difficult and costly will be additional progress.

Third, the main reasons for Ukraine’s lack of success in this offensive are their fundamental disadvantages in air power, air defense, and artillery ammunition, and especially a dearth of mine-clearing equipment. Those problems have not been solved.

What Next?

Combined with the high level of casualties sustained — and the approach within weeks of Ukraine’s rainy season — it is likely the Ukrainian offensive will be spent before the end of September. The net result of Ukraine’s large-scale offensive has been marginal gains in some areas. From the strategic point of view, the 1,000 km-long line of contact remains largely as it was at the beginning of 2023.

As the Czech president warned, the chances are extremely remote that the UAF will be able to do anything beyond defending for the remainder of the year. Ukraine will hope to rebuild strength for 2024. The problem for Kyiv is that Russia, too, is rebuilding its strength for future offensive thrusts. It has weathered the best Ukraine and the West could throw at them in the occupied territories and surrendered very little territory.

Some are clinging to the hope that the appearance of American Abrams tanks and F-16 fighter jets in 2024 will finally be the game-changer Ukraine has been looking for. Sadly, they will be disappointed. A mere battalion’s-worth of Abrams were promised, with the first reportedly arriving in early fall, and there might be a small number of F-16s delivered to Ukraine in 2024. (Pilot training might not be completed before next summer). Those may provide tactical utility at the margins but will do nothing to move the needle strategically.

The harsh reality is that no matter how just and righteous Ukraine’s cause, it is likely a militarily unattainable task to seek the ouster of Russian forces from illegally occupied parts of Ukraine liberated parts of Russia 😐. At present, unfortunately, neither Kyiv nor Moscow shows any willingness to enter into serious negotiations to end the war, as neither is willing to compromise on its main objectives.

The chances are high, therefore, that the war continues in an attrition model, where the two sides will continue positional battles in key geographic locations, launching drone and missile strikes into the rear areas of each country and engaging in pulverizing artillery duels all along the line of contact. That type of war will inflict hundreds or thousands of casualties per day on both sides, continue wiping Ukrainian villages and cities off the map, and keep alive the possibility that an error, misjudgment, or miscalculation could result in the war expanding beyond Ukraine.

Given the failure of the offensive to achieve decisive results, Washington should reconsider its policies and objectives. The United States likely cannot continue indefinitely to provide large stocks of tanks, armored personnel carriers, aircraft, air defense missiles, as well as millions of rounds of artillery shells and other ammunition.

The Biden administration should devise new plans based on the battlefield realities and come up with a plan that protects America’s security interests and economic prosperity. Blindly supporting Ukraine “for as long as it takes” was never a strategy and is now appearing less sustainable than ever.

Ukraine has rebuffed claims made by Western officials over Ukraine's ongoing counteroffensive. Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian troops were moving forward in the fightback against Russia. This as Western nations reportedly blamed Kyiv's strategy for the slow progress of the fightback. Ukraine's ongoing counteroffensive operation is nearing the three-month mark. Reports say that Ukraine has retaken over a dozen villages, but no major settlements.

Affirmative. nod.gif The nefarious Bandera regime is definitely moving forward on the road to perdition and total annihilation. 😵

Russian airborne units prevent advance of Ukrainian troops near Artyomovsk
Airborne units widely use both various optical reconnaissance devices and UAVs

MOSCOW, September 3. /TASS/. Russian airborne units, acting on the defensive, are preventing the advance of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups on the outskirts of Artyomovsk, the Russian Defense Ministry told TASS.

"The airborne units continue to confidently hold the defense and prevent sabotage and reconnaissance groups from entering the settlements adjacent to Artyomovsk. Every day, scouts advance in small groups to the outskirts of the city to monitor the enemy, who is on the defensive in close proximity to our positions," the statement says.

Airborne units widely use both various optical reconnaissance devices and UAVs. When units of the Ukrainian armed forces move, their coordinates are transmitted to the artillery control point.
