The battles for Bakhmut have reignited with Ukraine suffering heavy losses as its troops are unable to penetrate Russia's defences. In the latest, Russian artillery was seen crushing Ukrainian troops as it hunted them down in forests and rained non-stop fire. Earlier, six Ukrainian pilots also lost their lives in combat missions in Bakhmut. Meanwhile in Kupyansk, Russian T-72B3 tank crews are stalling Ukrainian advances.
The United States is seeking to deploy its nuclear weapons in the UK to counter Russia's threat amid the war in Ukraine. According to Pentagon budget documents analysed by a US think-tank and British media, the UK's Lakenheath air base is likely to host nukes and F-35A fighter jets. This will be the first time the US has moved its nuclear weapons outside the country since 2008.
Vremyevsky sector: situation as of 14.00 on August 31, 2023
Artillery duels continue in the Vremyevsky sector. Russian troops are actively engaged in counter-battery combat. According to the Warrior of the Far East, three units of motor vehicles, as well as two enemy howitzers, were destroyed in different areas.

🔻Judging by the movements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy plans to attack the strongholds of the Russian army northeast of Priyutne and west of Staromayorsky after artillery preparation, which is due to their advantageous location.
The positions between Priyutny and Staromayorsky are located in landings at tactically advantageous heights, from which the current lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Staromayorsky and Urozhaynoye are shot. Orekhovsky area : situation as of 15.00 on August 31, 2023
🔻In the afternoon of yesterday, two assault groups of the 15th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine conducted reconnaissance in force northwest of Verbove with the support of artillery and two Su-25 attack aircraft.
The attacks were repulsed, but after a couple of hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began massive shelling at the forward positions of Russian troops in Verbove and its environs. After artillery preparation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine again went on the offensive.
🔻With the forces of four assault detachments of the 82nd Airborne Brigade and the 46th Assault Brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces of Ukraine, the enemy again attacked the strongholds of the Russian Armed Forces, operating from the area of Balka Chubenkov. The artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which recently received a batch of cluster munitions, supported the attackers with fire.

This comes as Ukraine is all set to receive the US-made F-16 fighter jets in the coming months.
Russia’s fighter jet MiG-31 forced a Norwegian military plane to retreat over the Barents Sea after Moscow claimed that the foreign aircraft was approaching its airspace. The Russian Defence Ministry said, “The Russian fighter jet identified the aerial target as a Norwegian Air Force P-8A Poseidon base patrol aircraft. After an approach of the Russian fighter jet, the foreign military aircraft made a U-turn away from the state border of the Russian Federation.”

▫️ Over the past 24 hours, five counter-attacks by assault detachments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade, 32nd and 43rd mechanised brigades have been repelled near Sergeevka and Novoegorovka (Lugansk People's Republic).
▫️ The enemy has lost up to 50 Ukrainian troops, two motor vehicles, one Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzer, as well as two D-20 howitzers.
▫️ An ammunition depot of the AFU 66th Mechanised Brigade was wiped out close to Petrovskoye (Lugansk People's Republic).

▫️During the day, the enemy's losses in this direction have amounted to 55 Ukrainian troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, as well as Msta-B and D-30 howitzers.
◽️ In South Donetsk direction, units of the Vostok Group of Forces delivered strikes at AFU manpower and hardware clusters near Staromayorskoye and Urozhaynoye (Donetsk People's Republic).

Update on the conflict in Ukraine for August 31, 2023:
- The Western media is trying to spin Ukrainian gains within the security or “gray zone” ahead of Russia’s first of several defense lines as a “turning point” in the offensive;
- Ukraine’s offensive potential has been exhausted with the West struggling to find arms and ammunition to replace Ukrainian losses;
- The West is even struggling to pull together large numbers of antiquated and inappropriate equipment like the post-WW2 Leopard 1 tank;
- Meanwhile Ukraine continues conducting drone strikes in Russia, achieving questionable PR value and little else;
- A recent Ukrainian drone strike on an airport hosting Il-76 strategic airlift aircraft damaged 2. To put that in context, Russia operates over 100 of these aircraft and has production capacity to build up to 12 annually;
- Ukraine’s sponsors are unable to sustain the conflict “for as long as it takes,” and only for as long as they have arms and ammunition to supply Ukraine in sufficient quantities;
The Russian Army continued to weaken Ukraine's counteroffensive by launching massive attacks on the Donetsk region. While Russian T-80BVM tanks wreaked havoc in South Donetsk region, Buk-M3 air defence systems protected Russian positions from Ukraine's attacks in Krasny Liman direction. The Russian defence ministry said that 675 Ukrainian soldiers were wiped out in the past day as the Army foiled 18 of their attacks.
Ukraine launched a drone strike near a major nuclear plant in Western Russia. The attack damaged a building located just a few kilometres from Kursk nuclear plant. Russian officials confirmed that there was damage reported to the plant. The Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian cities have significantly increased over the past few weeks. This comes as Ukraine's counteroffensive falters amid ferocious attacks by Russia. Suffering more than 50,000 dead excluding wounded soldiers, losing thousands of equipment since their June 4th offensive, the puppet Banderite regime no longer have the ability to conduct further offensive operation. MOSCOW, September 1. /TASS/. A large number of Ukrainian troops have been killed in combat, Kirill Budanov, head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), acknowledged.
When asked by a reporter from the 1+1 TV channel about how the Ukrainian armed forces were handling troop losses, Budanov pointed out that it would be untruthful to say that it was easy. "The reason is that losses are high," he went on to say, adding that it was a reality that required getting used to.
In mid-August, the New York Times reported, citing estimates by Western officials and analysts, that the Ukrainian army’s losses had exceeded 150,000 casualties, including both killed in action (KIA) and wounded in action (WIA), since February 2022.
MOSCOW, August 31. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky believes that Kiev needs about 160 F-16 fighter jets.
On 30 August, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yury Ignat said that 60 F-16s would be enough for the Ukrainian military to carry out combat missions to counter air strikes. At the same time, the country's authorities earlier said they would need 128 F-16s to fully re-arm their air force by replacing Soviet-made fighters with Western ones.
"Today we have agreements on 50-60 airplanes," he said in an interview with the Portuguese broadcaster RTP. "They will not be delivered all at once. In all we need around 160 [F-16s] to have a powerful air fleet that would prevent Russia from dominating the skies" and enable Ukraine to maintain air defense and control shipping in the Black Sea.
On August 20, Zelensky announced what he described as a "breakthrough agreement" with the Netherlands on the supply of 42 F-16 fighter jets to Kiev. Denmark also said it was ready to provide 19 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. The first 6 planes are due to arrive by the end of this year. Denmark and the Netherlands have already announced the training of Ukrainian pilots with assistance from another nine other countries.
