POV footage of Ukrainian soldiers jumping into what they think is an abandoned Russian trench, only to find it rigged with remote-controlled anti-personnel mines

You can catch a glimpse of the MON-50 mine (similar to US Claymore mine) when the POV guy peers into the trench at 0:42, it's a green rectangular box planted right in front of the soldier with the beard

Terrifying

Between the spring and early summer, Russian forces were able to ready themselves and fortify their border positions along that 600-mile front while the Ukrainian military took time to plan its next punches. It has allowed Russia to push back and make its own gains along the front.

An interactive map published by the ISW shows Russia actually seizing control of more areas than Ukraine during the current fighting, including major regions such as the Donetsk Oblast, Mariupol and Khersonβ€”the latter of which has been a combat hotbed.

Looks like the Russians installed new better-quality night-vision cameras on their attack helicopters. Now we can all revel in the destruction of Ukrainian armor in glorious HD.
No more strikes on farm equipment sadly

at first i thought it was ridiculous too then i saw an image of fire control area from accessible heights that Ukraine has taken, it was not so ridiculous after all.

due to the geographic area of it, all right side are on lower or flat lands are now visible for mortar or artillery fire. any resupply will most likely be done in small scale or night cover.

any kind of mass exodus or reinforcement will be highly noticable.

I kinda see your point about the high ground, but haven't ukrainian artillery held and fired from this position for a while now? Even from the earliest days of Bakhmut?

If their positions on the high ground can't influence the battle of Bakhmut then, I don't really see how it will affect this battle also.

this is just my speculation, i think they probably meant now they have full observation of the town outskirts in and out without relying on drones for movements and able to bring up light weight short range mortar units.

i don't think they dare to bring artillery units up close and doesn't seem like the need to do so anyway.
