As someone moving from a landed property to a rented unit in a high rise building in KL for work, i noticed that roaches (especially fully adult roaches shocking.gif ) will appear no matter how clean i keep my unit.

Is this true for all high rise buildings in KL or am i unlucky in choosing my unit? Peope living in KL, please advise. rclxub.gif

Occasionally la. Not as prevalent as landed. Insects, ants, spiders, cockroaches. Even mosquitoes not so many, pretty sure it hops in the lift instead of flying from G

Previously i was renting a unit in Vortex (apologies for name dropping), during unit viewing everything was fine. After i moved in doh.gif .

I started seeing dead baby roaches on my way to throw trash. Then it start appearing in my unit. Couldnt stop them and couldnt get rid of them. It was a nightmare.

Now i moved somewhere near G tower, though no more baby roaches. It is now replaced with full grown adults shocking.gif

I wonder if its the area or just my luck. unsure.gif

Which floor do you live on? Is your unit close to garbage room?

The closer you are to the ground or garbage room, the higher chances of having roaches. If you're far from both & you cover all the drains properly, there should be no roaches, fingers crossed. Of course, neighbors do play a role. If the adjacent units have an infestation, you're SOL

You can also complain to management and have pest control on the common area such as garbage room

If you do not have small children and is not sensitive towards pest control chemicals, you can ask pest control to come. You need to do it every few months I think.

Look at 1:11 mark onwards

Currently level 20+, i guess you could say its on of the unit thats near the garbage room.

However this current residence, i dont see roached on my way to the garbage room. That being said, i didnt really go roach hunting in the garbage room. This building has those built in AC to the unit, where there are vents on the ceiling.

I wonder if there could also come from there. hmm.gif

Also if you or your neighbors don't seal the garbage bag properly, that is basically inviting roaches to come. I tie up my garbage bags either with a rubber band or string. For food wastes, I use two garbage bags (smaller ones). Unless it's too little, I ensure that I clear my garbage bin everyday after dinner (I use S size garbage bags because I want to have minimal garbage at any time).

Do these & I guess you can try the pest control that I have mentioned above.

Use the roach kill (not mozzie kill) spray the doorstep every month, liberally

Try not to mop it up

Yes if close to the garbage room or if your neighbour leaves their rubbish or garbage bins outside their doors it may attract cockroaches that leads to your unit in their search for food. What I will do is I put cockroach baits near my main door (for those from your neighbours). Cockroaches love to live in storage with lots of cardboxes as they feed on the pulp. So you may also put these baits in your store room, toilets (have you ensured they don't come up from the toilet floor trap (try changing to those anti-insect floor traps). All the best!

The condo I currently live I moved in when it's new built.

After living here for 8 years

From my observations

-First 3 years no pest
-4th year onwards cockroaches and lizards appeared
-5 years onward this condo become an ecosystem for the pests.
When lizards appears, the amount of cockroaches become lesser.
-I'm happy that my house got many lizards even though they leave shits all over my house but I don't hate them cos they eats baby cockroaches it helps reduce cockraoches
-Big cockroaches will appear once in a while. Always shut the yard window/sliding door.

I used many cans of the roach spray, took a long time to clear, every few days spray, even go spray the sampah collection room. After a while they stop but i still spray once every month.

New unit less issue, old unit sure will get.
high floor less problem with roaches provided the building do pest control every 6 months or you can try spray the rubbish chute area every month with some ridsect/shieldtox

Roach bomb your unit. last time my unit always got the small crockroach come in. bomb every year also will find them inside every now and then. initially thought got nest inside behind the kidchen cabinets, etc... but usually they come from outside or hide behind the walls, etc... They usually come in via the pipes or cracks in the tap/tile area

Ridiculous idea as most condos won't allow pets, plus they bring other issues of their own (think poop, fleas). doh.gif

Roaches can enter condo easily from logistic. In example, if you buy gas tank or exchange one, the gaps in the tanks have hidden roaches that piap2 and lay eggs in the as well. If you are lucky, you get those mini roach breeds. If unlucky... those standard American roaches will suddenly spawn since they could easily hide and eat little debris to adulthood.

Even if you are clean, that doesn't repel any cockroaches to enter, since your house will have orifices and gaps everywhere. Neighbor screwed up by bringing roaches to their house, they can just run to your house to breed.

Best is to get those dry food poison and place every potential area of roach hiding spot and let the poison works its charm.

hard to stop roach infest if you stay near the garbage room. no matter how clean you are, there will be roaches.

best way is to use roach bait, once in a while. as there is no way of completely killing them, as the source is not in your house. only way is to minimize it.

In my case, the roaches were coming up from the sewer pipes up through the sink because the pop up sink drain stopper was damaged and could not close and the outlet pipe doesn't have a water trap. After I replaced the sink drain with a normal strainer and plugged the overflow hole there were no roaches any more.
Another case was the kitchen drain grate cover which was pushed up because accumulated cooking fat and other stuff was blocking the pipe. After unclogging the pipe, roaches couldn't climb up anymore because the normal water level and the grate cover will stop them.

I've seen a roach coming out of the shower grate which could not properly close in a friend's house, so thats one way roaches can get inside, that had to be fixed by changing the shower drain to an insect proof one. Condos also have to worry about air vents and improperly sealed piping.

I don't believe most houses should have roaches if they are kept clean and well maintained.

At my condo, for the past 5 years I have never seen a single cockroach or lizard. Only sometime which is very rare I see mosquito which I am amaze how high the mofo can climb

I’ve seen more dogs than cockroach

Credit I guess goes to the pest control that is frequently done. Even garbage room despite the smell can’t find a single cockroach or lizard

This is one reason why I choose high rise
