My father is already 76. But he is an atheist or free thinker.

Any affordable funeral package to recommend?

Looks like the majority package is either Buddhist or Christian package.

You can call nirvana and see what they have to offer? Idk as a secular person ayam don't give a shit how my body is handled after death, it's none of my business anymore, ideally I would like to have all my organs donated where feasible or maybe donate body to science (but I can't find options for this in Malaysia) and then just be cremated and thrown wherever but I guess it's up to next of kin, as a non religious person I don't care which religious rites they choose. Does your father himself care, that it has to be a non religious funeral for him?

This is exactly what I intended to do for myself when the time comes. No need to burden anyone year after year with no end.

Ok thanks. I think it will be great if relatives can still come and pay respect . But no need any prayer or any ritual or any singing..so far I haven't attended any free thinker funeral service.

Can save 15K for the prayers and at least 20K for the niche.

For free thinker , can I get Christian package? But on that day, there won't be any prayers, singing. Just for relative to come to pay respect.

Same for me. Not sure why die also have to be so expensive. I know a guy spend rm 2 million buy nirvana package. I rather use the money to help the poor.

Good idea

What TS can do is to rent a funeral parlour area in a temple (with cremation service) without any prayers.

Then you invite loved ones and friends to pay a visit for one last time to those who wish to look at him.

Then after that, donate the body to the above research centre.

Or if u don't wish to donate, then cremate the body and put it an urn in the allocated plot. You need to pay for the allocated plot.

if you want simple, just look for those coffin shop, and ask about the processes and pricing for processing your father's body when he passes away. So later on you have a rough idea what to do if he does pass away.

Because when a person is dead, there are lots of procedure need to follow one, such as getting death certificate, apply a time slot in public crematorium etc. I think such process costs about 8-10k ?

Instead of scatter the ashes into the sea, suggest just buy a place in columbarium, less than 2-3k only..

Also, make you go to at the right place, means if your dad from kwong tong, then go to kwong tong cemetery, hokkien then hokkien cemetery..

Free thinker, I think no need to do so many leceh thing. Just burn & throw the ashes into the sea.

Just tell the relatives when will the body be cremated. If they can make, they will come, if can't make it not need to wait.

If still care about funeral, then it is not free thinker / defect the purpose of being a free thinker.

Throw into the sea can be quite leceh if the family is not living near the sea. Also I don't think it's legal to litter anything into the sea. Better just dump into rubbish bin.

if your father is atheist/free thinker he probably against those paid ceremony/funeral event too, many ppl turn atheist/free thinker because of that

if he still stil well now better ask him opinion on this, he probably is more happy if you save the money for your own

if not mistaken you cannot simply scatter ash around (sea/land/etc), need to be at some designated area

Yes. A couple of times. After most of the ashes was put inside the urn, family members will use chopstick to pickup few bones and put into the urn. The rest will be disposed. Or can ask the staff to scatter at sea if you want.

Its not really a grave, the body and coffin gets absorbed back into the land and become nutrients for nature. So you're not wasting land, you're giving back to it.

Can the land be used to plant trees or crops?

That's the whole idea behind it

Seems like not available in Malaysia yet? Coz all the posts are about oversea news.

I'm also not sure if available here, that's why I said "something like this". Just to get the idea out there to TS. I'm not sure who in Malaysia can do it

Can consider something like this:

Burning is a waste of resources really.

Not workable here due to few issues:-

1) you need an gazette / alienated land for this. Coz if you simple bury the body at any land, ppl may mistaken it as the attempt to destroy criminal evidence / mistaken the burial as the crime.

2) the left over from the corpse ( the bones ) abit annoying. If the land is use for the growing, the land need to be ploughed , when it is being ploughed, the skeletons may surface. No farmer willing to works on the lands with so many obstruction.

The only way I see it possible maybe it will be something like Bukit Cina at Melaka. The whole area ancient Chinese tombs were covered by the tall growing rubber trees.

I remember something funny from nirvana or one of the other funeral parlours where they charged more for the atheist package compared to the Taoist or Buddhist package. Since I'm an atheist, I'll just take the cheapest one. Doesn't matter if it's Buddhist or Taoist.

Ok thanks. I think it will be great if relatives can still come and pay respect . But no need any prayer or any ritual or any singing..so far I haven't attended any free thinker funeral service.

Perhaps just go for no-frills basic package and ask for something that doesn't involve customary stuffs. Agree that it would be good for people to pay respect if possible, so a wake will still be good to have. If whoever you're planning this for is still around or able to speak - just check what his/ her preference on such matters. One of my relative actually said in advance that when he dies, just cremate and scatter his ash. Nothing else matters to him because he doesn't believe in life after death. When you're dead, you're just...... dead.

i dont understand why wooden coffins here cost so much;
*
Hahahaha they tell you it's made of this wood, that wood iinm. There's also the cost of ornaments and finishing etc. These things really triggers you to think whether its necessary to pay premium for something better, since it'll be burnt after several days anyway.
