Well it’s finally happened. I’ve repeatedly stressed what the hotel industry has been lobbying and it’s starting to happen. Only a matter of time this is seen as best practice even in KL.

Happy Merry Lelong everyone!

But will there be consequences like hotel can simply raise their price due to lack of competitions from airbnb?

5 star hotel accommodation in Malaysia is already the cheapest in the region. They don’t need the competition of tens of thousands of unregulated Airbnb units.

Do you want to see the local hospitality industry fail and the repercussions of the unemployment from that? The hotel industry has so many rules and regulations on top of tax whereas short term stay has virtually none.

Putting an outright ban and making short term stay an opt-in process is smart and will certainly bring things to a halt.

Owner needed to be proactive and unity at jmb & AMG. Many residential property owner want to banned short term stay, but they are helpless if the owner group are inactive.

It’s a numbers game. If it’s dominant investor group then of course the JMB is these people too and most likely STS can continue. The own stayers just need to know the rules and their own rights.
