The specialty cake of Medan in North Sumatra and is often brought as a gift by those who visited the city. Very common to be found in Indonesia and Singapore but very rare in Malaysia.

Even I heard Hongkies ate this during CNY! ohmy.gif

Why not popular at Malaysia? Malaysia got white colour one but not sedap. hmm.gif

Actually, I agree with ts. This kek got special taste, not like kek sarang Semut or gula hangus.

Their texture look a like, but the taste is different. Indonesia very famous this cake. Here mmg difficult or impossible to get.

Penang one I don’t know. Is it yellow colour like in the picture?

No. I am avid eater of kuih. I know the difference. It as different as durian and cempedak.

I like the white sugar kuih here. But it cannot beat the bika Ambon.

I crave for bika Ambon but here really cannot buy.

It's called (Kue) Bingka Ubi and the origin is Banjar (South Kalimantan). It's everywhere in Penang.

Can even find the Pandan variety there ;-

The sarang is because tuak is used. I guess yeast can be used as replacement to get similar effect.
