If u not sure u cant use it overseas then why u bought it? Obviously if u has read their website , it caters to multicurrency account . Can receive money From overseas . Spend money overseas . Some more its based in singapore .

Better just use BigPay or our local debit cards can also use overseas

Tip: dont use wise to withdraw from ATM in thailand, their ATMs charge 200 or 300 baht withdrawal fee. Not worth it.

Exactly. I was fooled once cos their marketing cleverly claimed that there is no fees but this time, it was levied by the corresponding ATM. The THB200 charge is even more expensive than our traditional banks

I use the app no physical card. Just online banking app transfer on use.
Surely cheaper exchange rate compare to cc.

Now, i switch to 'youtrip' instead, more user friendly in SG & Aust. Seldom use wise now

200-300baht per transaction, no matter amount? if withdraw alot maybe ok depending on rate.. how much is the rate for thai baht in wise?

I use the app no physical card. Just online banking app transfer on use.
Surely cheaper exchange rate compare to cc.

Now, i switch to 'youtrip' instead, more user friendly in SG & Aust. Seldom use wise now

after u register , You can open 2 virtual accounts at one time that you can delete right away, if u want physical card can order at rm13.7 . Lets say u want to buy sowmthing From some dodgy merchant , u can create one , pay and delete .

But if u feel Like u gonna spend on local transactions better take alliance virtual account credit card It will generate a random number, u pay then self destruct .

You need to check the respective banks, they can have different withdrawal limit. I'm quite sure whatever the limit, it's not worth the extra 200 baht.

Exactly. I was fooled once cos their marketing cleverly claimed that there is no fees but this time, it was levied by the corresponding ATM. The THB200 charge is even more expensive than our traditional banks

I know about the surcharge

But was desperate for extra cash that time

Extra tip for those who want to withdraw - Look for Aeon ATM, their fee is the lowest iinm at 150 THB. The withdrawal fee varies depending on the bank.

That's just shitty business of thai bank. I withdraw from ATM machine in Japan and it only charge a maximum of 220yen. But wise also has limit of monthly free amount you can withdraw without any fees. After that amount, it's 1.75% . I still find it more cheaper than changing currency in money changer. That's when I calculate YEN anyways.

Wise user since 2019 and now my daily multi-purpose card.
It's definitely become a lot more useable over the years.

- Recently compatible with Samsung Pay, Google Wallet, Apple Pay, Grab etc. with almost no need for the physical card.
- Create unlimited virtual cards (limit to 3 at a time) for one-time use purchases or secondary user.
- Tap function works in 99% of places/countries I've visited.
- converts at mid-market FX rates in real-time settlement vs days with banks
- tracks expenses with downloadable reports

Wise is awesome. Been using it to make international transfers and currency conversion. You save shit tons of fee with wise. Besides they use actual exchange rate and only charge you a small fee for conversion.

Been using in some EU countries, works fine. But keep in mind that paywave is not working here. Don't know why.

It works for Google Play Store, but not "Google Wallet" which is similar to Apple/Samsung Pay.

If your card is shipped from MY, you have to let go G wallet. Unless by that time, G wallet supports Wise MY. tongue.gif

Yes, I'm in Malaysia (my WISE card is registered overseas).
And yes, I use Google Wallet daily and WISE is my primary.

Mind sharing how was profile created and the country was set? Is the wise card delivery address matter or does your Google profile country setting matter the all?
Or You have added your wise card oversea before coming back to Malaysia?

This card has the best exchange rate. Even better than bigpay imo. I tried both whenever i travel. Wise always come up on top at being the cheapest.

I have 2 Google profiles (one for each country) but that doesn't affect WISE.
Card was registered and added while I was residing overseas.
My replacement card was delivered to KL with no issues.
I'm guessing that your initial registration address probably matters more than current address.

very seamless and very transparent.

Ya, as long ATM machine supports VISA thing.

Most banks got VISA. But wise processing time take some time to read.

Key in 4 pin then press green button. I select savings account then select balance inquiry.

I heard some chip and pin terminal cannot support 4 pin digit since Malaysia mainly use 6 PIN Digit.

I don't want to try Chip and Pin yet. No money yet.

After activation, then Contactless and Magnetic Swipe no grey out.

Will show which bank was last use.

Mine got show Public Bank. Since went to Public Bank ATM help my to activate securesign thing.

Always pay in their local currency. Don't convert.
The main feature of Wise is having a good conversion rate, if you convert first then you already lost out.

Edit: sorry, I read your question wrong. Thought you were asking if you want to pay in foreign currency or pay in MYR.

Answer to your question:
Tbh, there's no diff if you convert the currency in the card or just leave Wise to auto-convert, same rate anyway. Unless you know the rate is damn low for that period, then you can convert first.

yes you can convert back and forth as you wish but you lose the conversion fees each time.

imo, it is only worth to pre-convert if the currency rate is too good to ignore..

my experience differ from yours. I think Wise is definitely cheaper than banks and mostly cheaper than money exchangers in my area. only one or two money exchanger's rate is better than wise and they always run out of the more popular currency..

Wise is a debit card whereby you have to put money into it. In the very worst case scenario, you can only lost the money in the card. And not your bank account money that is linked to your debit card.

Contactless? I have a lot of this problem with Wise. The way I solved it was to put it into my Google Wallet.

My experience:

Thailand - contactless totally not working, everything else fine but did not try to withdraw money from ATM.
Australia - everything works including withdrawing money from ATM.

I've used it at Australia Melbourne , this card works wonders.

but anyone tried in Bali? any experince?
*
No issue in Bali.. just that not all shop accepts it. some terminal cant go thru. just make sure you have done your first payment using PIN before doing contactless and make sure you enabled it also on your app.
the cashier likely give you a weird look when you key in your Pin cos they're used to 6 digits instead of 4 biggrin.gif

On the contrary, wise is the cheapest for me.
I convert to the currency before I even arrive there.

So at that country it's always charged in the native denomination.

I know it's a year old post, but can u let me know how useful is this card in Japan? Is it very convenient and widely accepted? Should I use cash over this? Cheaper rate to use this?

Thanks.
*
is cheaper rate to use this, you can even withdraw from atm for small fee charges as well.

bring enough cash and if the shop allowed, you can pay using wise

I am in Tokyo Japan right now. Wise is definitely the card to have n any place that used Visa, Wise is accepted.
Rates are as quoted on a daily basis. A small amount of Yen is advisable as some quote cash only.

Is it better to convert rm to Thb via the app then scan/swipe in local Thb ( wise will auto select ) or just let wise / visa convert the rate From myr to Thb.

both equal tho, its just like forex/investment
if u foresee rate will be higher time u travel, then exchange 1st
if u foresee rate lower time u travel, then let it convert using spot rate

I didnt care much since rate usually wont fluctuate too much

unlike my JPY, which I converted much earlier during MCO, when Yen rate very nice, earned ~10% if convert back to MYR during time I travel to JP

It is better to convert some Yen now thru Wise for future travel?
Since the Yen is cheaper.

I normally just tap n use as per daily rate. Sometimes for all you know it evens out though everyday fluctuates but if u think it's very good rate then change first in your wallet. I've use wise in japan , Australia , Europe ,etc n it gives me better rate than I change cash. Best part is I use my apply pay n pay everywhere. Sometimes some places use physical card. Sometimes I wonder why do ppl still use a bank credit card. Like paying for Agoda n booking hotels normal credit card charges higher rate plus foreign currency fee but wise gives so much better rate.

If anyone want to sign up for wise can pm me for referral link.
