I'm moving to a new place and will be using ViewQWest instead of my current ISP TIME as they don't offer coverage there.
I'm planning to use my current modem from TIME tplink 230-G1 cause I'm cheap and don't really need the extra bell and whistle.

I wasn't there when the installer set up the internet. I told my mom I can handle the rest so she told the installer that I can fix the modem to the router.

When I came back, I found that the ViewQWest box came with no manual guide/documentation etc, and my effort to try link the modem to the router failed. I factory reset the modem, but the issue is still at the modem unable to connect to WAN. I tried to ask for the PPPoE username and password via ViewQWest CS.

Anyone know what else I should ask or have any experience in migrating to ViewQWest?

Here's an update: TIME router's firmware is locked to PPPOE, while VQ isn't using it.

In the end, I have to buy a new router. With the new router, it's just plug and play after initial setup.

Not bad, but not the best. Speed ok, but stability isn't the forte, at least for minre. I'll encounter 2-3 minutes total disconnect at times
When this happens, it can be irritating because I connect to company VPN and keep getting the connection lost and reconnect message. If you're gaming or something, you'll get kick because total connection loss.
Told the support about it. Sometimes, they can detect the disconnect, sometimes they don't.

I prefer Time for stability. But VQ like don't really get MCMC block compared to Time.

Thanks for the info, currently using Maxis & Time but having issue connecting my Xiaomi smart home devices due to lousy China routing.

Any issue with China routing for this VQ?

Anyway, submitted my application opt for transfer ID for a week but until now no reply, CS from VQ just told me year end is busy month so I think I just skip it. They can't even fulfill the 1st step of so called customer service quality.

Please skip VQ, very very slow and poor costumer service although they counter offer me with better price per plan. No issue obvious issue connect to China server. Average down one a month and always maintained during midnight.

Are you facing China smart home device issue with Maxis too?

I used to use TIME but switching to Maxis solved most of them.

Just curious which brand is affected so I will avoid them. I still have 20 months of contract with Maxis to serve.

Hi, Yes, having this issue but not as bad as TIME. Example, for connection to Mi Home app devices.

1. TIME - 1min or more or sometimes timeout
2. Maxis - 20-30s or more
3. UNIFI (Company line) - 1-5s

My current solution is using 5G modem (Yes prepaid) & redirect all CN servers to this line, instantly connect with no issue.

I just hope UNIFI is working although I tested it using my company line which is Fixed IP Business Fiber but I guess the routing should be the same.

So far Tuya smart home devices no issue on all lines.

Thanks for the sharing!

My Xiaomi China devices are working fine on Maxis, much better than TIME. I paid for public IP, not really sure if it has better routing.

My mobile is Maxis as well so remote connection to home is great too.

Now I linked most of them to Home Assistant but yea it's not 100% perfect so I still need Xiaomi app from time to time.

Tuya is probably one of the most perfect / lag-free ecosystem after Apple Homekit.

Edit: I have Tapo as well and their app/connectivity is great too. Probably tied with Tuya.
