Manufacturing industry (aka factory)..

Current company:
Type: Local public listed company

Allowance: 100
Bonus: 2 months
Benefit: normal
Working hour: 45 hrs/week (5days)
Distance: 35 mint. drive

New company:
Type: Local sme company
Level: Assistant Manager
Salary: 6,xxx
Allowance: n/a
Bonus: 1 month (told during interview)
Benefit: normal
Working hour: 44 hrs/week (5.5days)

Hi, I’m mid-30 married with 2kids. I been working in factory from beginning of my career, currently this is my 3rd company serving almost 5years..

I'm very comfortable with current company as the job is non-stress, can go back on-time, no on-call after work, easy to take leave, have 15mint break before/after lunch. I thinking this is a nice job to work till retirement, but the company did not offer any career growth due to this is just a supporting role..

New company offer new challenges and better career growth as it is essential role, but it can be very stressful job and I'm pretty scare I cannot handle it..

Why I apply? some time I’m bored and want to explore other job opportunities..

Any thought can share.. thanks

Most people with family dont want challenges

They just want to work and go back on time

Think about it

i think my deal breaker would be the 5.5days. u need to consider if it worth the weekend for your family.

When working you need a challenges so that it can fire up your passion to work, but on the other side you want to go back home earlier to play with your kids..

1) Mostly sme company manager tend to stay back long hours...
2) The package does not add up for your career salary, js merely increase RM1k you want to jump boat?
3) The current company 2x bonus, new one 1x bonus... at the end you got roughly same salary as your previous jobs.

if the salary is 51xx vs 69xx then I feel worthy to consider. if less than 1k, you have to decide whether it is really worthy or to give extra 0.5 days per week to the company especially when you want to spend more times with kids.

sometimes need to choose which one more important to you, if you lucky maybe can get a job with the best of both worlds thumbsup.gif

Try nego alternate week or if you can train someone to cover on sat, then it should work with the additional pay.

Dont give up your weekend, only time you can spend for yourself and family.

Plus they no even giving you much increment when consider bonus ( and if got rsu at your current company even more not worth it)

Shop around for other offer with give better jump in overall compensation, personally i would just let this one go

I think that impossible, even the manager also working 5.5days..

Too bad the rsu benefit is for AM and above..

Tomorrow is the last day to confirm if I'm accepting their offer or not..
After considering for past few days, I will skip this job offer and will serve my current company until I found better opportunity.

Thanks guys for sharing some though..

i have worked 5.5 days/week job, also 5 days/week job

stay 5 days/week job as possible

you will have a lot more times to rest, and to spend it with your family, more flexible to go for vacation as well.

my brother now working 6 days/week in kl, basically no chance to b kampung at all unless got streak holiday.

What everyone said is valid.

#1 Total up your salary including bonus and see how much you're earning in total vs the new offer (FYI, you can only give them benefit of doubt that the 1 month bonus will be honoured)

#2 If the above is not at least 20% higher, consider whether its worth the risk of disrupting your current lifestyle/ job.

#3 Very likely you know what to expect from the SME because you've done similar jobs before or was in similar setting. Re-think the reason why you left your 2nd job for the 3rd job, apart from the better salary.

Similarly, 5.5 days of work is a major turn-off for me because weekend is personal time. Occasionally when work is required on Saturday, that's fine.

We've been around LYN long enough to see a number of cases where people jump off to a new 'ship' and then realized they made the wrong choice. If you actually don't have a major issue with current company (except the lack of career progression), have you spoke to your superior about it? For example, to have you transfer to another division to learn new things or to increase the learning opportunity of your role?
