QUOTE(amiee @ Oct 17 2024, 09:11 PM)
I lost 50% of my smell to covid lately (still improving). At the time I lost my sense of smell it was devastating because eating good food is a little joy in my life. And I thought about the time I am complaining about my husband's body ordour and smelly roadside stalls and toilets. I would give almost anything to smell those again.

I always thought of Jesus' word "Live a Day at a Time". Live everyday slowly, in the moment. Come what may. Enjoy the simple things, both good and bad.

MATTHEW.6: (NKJV) = Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? ...

For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

.
In it's proper context, the Word of God/Jesus at MATTHEW.6:34 will only be true for Christians who follow Jesus Christ, eg not to atheists and Buddhists, esp not to unrighteous evildoers and criminals.

The Purpose Of Life: ........

1. Christians = to obey God's Law for a good and long life on earth and to believe/trust/have faith in Jesus Christ and His atoning Cross for going to heaven in the afterlife.
....... Christians follow both the Old and New Testaments.

2. Jews = to obey God's Law or Torah for both a good and long life on earth and going to heaven in the afterlife.
....... Jews follow the Old Testament only, ie they reject the New Testament

3. Muslims = similar to Jews except obey Allah's Law or Sharia.
....... Muslims follow the Koran, ie both the OT and NT have been obsoleted or replaced by their Koran.
.

If heaven is filled with people who cheat, murder and steal like many rich want to believe then it is no longer a nice place you want to be in your afterlife.

This is the sick Abrahamic belief which is very hard to accept.

I noticed many influential and wealthy faces preaching the gospel as though they will make it to heaven despite knowing all the sins they committed throughout their life but they deny their doings.

Then they preach that heaven is certain if you commit yourself to the religion but they themselves fear death and will pay whatever to keep themselves alive.

Say?

To understand the purpose of life, you must first understand what "this life" is all about first, the this body/mind that you call self...

Your answer does not show understanding to the topic itself.

What is life and this body/mind unique to the thing called "self"?

It refers to your SOUL and CHARACTER.

A beggar who is wise, cheerful, humble, trustworthy, helpful has a more powerful soul than a selfish king who greedy, bad tempered and liar.

As King Solomon said, all is meaningless in life and nothing can be carried with you to the grave means one's soul/character makes up most of of the weight that you can only bring with you when death invites.

All the physical body, wealth, the hard work, and material accumulation even family members mentioned as your 2nd, 3rd and 4th wives will leave you when you die. Only your 1st wife which is your soul/character will be allowed to follow you when you die.

How you know heaven exist? You been there on tour and returned? How come God didn't invite me for that tour and only invited you? laugh.gif

Don't start telling me people testify their near death experiences and claim so and so. They could have been bribed by you. laugh.gif

So do you agree that being a badass in life but repent and accept God's salvation guarantees you a place in eternal heaven?

If that heaven really exists, then many including myself feel it isn't really a nice place to be. laugh.gif It'll be filled by many ex-thieves, murderers, scammers and liars all over there. Is that what a paradise is called?

Yeah symbolically, my 1st wife which is my "Soul". brows.gif

Unless you want your tomb stone to be hammered or spitted on when you die, your soul after death is still despise by the public and people around you because your foul character is still remembered by all your victims including their families.

“Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life,”

written by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles.

Ikigai loosely translates to “the happiness of always being busy,” and is centered around a person’s true purpose in life.

Finding your ikigai is said to make life more meaningful.

In Okinawa, Japan, a blue zone with the highest concentration of centenarians in the world, ikigai is a common theme, according to García and Miralles who interviewed some of the world’s oldest people.

A Japanese proverb states: “Only staying active will make you want to live a hundred years.” And García and Miralles encourage you to stay active by immersing yourself in your ikigai.

Here are the 10 rules that they’ve found have made living in your purpose more seamless.

The 10 rules of ikigai

1) Stay active; don’t retire.

Many of the world’s longest-lived people work well into their 80′s and 90′s or don’t retire. Take for instance, Jayne Burns, a 100-year-old woman who works at a craft store in Ohio; Burns jokingly said her only birthday wish after turning 100 was “to keep working.”

2) Take it slow.

It may feel normal to rush through things and be in a hurry, but that can actually have negative effects on the quality of your life, according to García and Miralles. Instead, they recommend taking your time and seeing how it adds more meaning to your life.

3) Don’t fill your stomach.

Often, centenarians that the authors spoke to suggested eating only 80% of what’s on your plate. “The extra side dish, the snack we eat when we know in our hearts we don’t really need it, the apple pie after lunch—all these will give us pleasure in the short term, but not having them will make us happier in the long term.”

4) Surround yourself with **** good friends. ****
Having great relationships in your life has been linked to happiness and longevity, according to an 85-year Harvard study.

Centenarians in Okinawa, whom García and Miralles interviewed, prioritized spending time together at community centers in their village and often competed in friendly sports games.

5) Get in shape for your next birthday. *************
Exercise is a huge component that contributes to longevity. Even if strenuous exercises aren’t your thing, there are five-minute movements like radio taiso 體操 that the oldest residents of Okinawa do daily.

6) Smile. **************
“It’s good to recognize the things that aren’t so great, but we should never forget what a privilege it is to be in the here and now in a world so full of possibilities,” wrote García and Miralles.

7) Reconnect with nature. ************

Find time to breathe in some fresh air and take a walk, even if you live in a city. Spending time in nature may seem like a waste of time, but it can boost your productivity, enhance your mood and improve your memory.

******

8) Give thanks.
Gratitude is a great way to remind yourself of all of the best things in your life. Take some time to share your appreciation for your loving family, wonderful friends or even yourself.

9) Live in the moment. “Stop regretting the past and fearing the future. Today is all you have.

Make the most of it. Make it worth remembering,”

wrote García and Miralles.

10) Follow your ikigai.
Discover what your passion is and let it drive you. Having an ikigai adds purpose to your life and can lead to more happiness.

But japanese all do not happy....

Work too many

They do not read the book or reality is more cruel than dream?

The 5 AM Club: What Is It And Should You Join?

Waking up at 5 am may seem like a nightmare, but for a growing number, it's the route to a fulfilled life.

Based on a book of the same name, the 5 am club is all about rising early to concentrate on your life goals before the rest of the world wakes up.

This new trend became popular in 2018 when the club’s ‘President’, Robin Sharma, released his book titled ‘

user posted image

The 5 am Club: Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life’.

It’s since become an international bestseller and the concept has become a bit of an online sensation too.

Now, members are soaring. Influencers sing the club’s praises. Life coaches share Sharma’s motivational quotes. Social platforms are awash with the #5amclub hashtag. So, given its popularity, it may be time to consider your own 5 am club application.

On my first morning, I got all the wisdom found in Sharma’s book and felt ready to apply it to my own life.

Here are three key ideas I learned from Blinkist’s explainer of The 5 AM Club.

1. You Need to Protect Your Limited Mental Capacity
We all have a limited mental capacity or cognitive bandwidth. And this can easily be taken up with work responsibilities, childcare duties, social media notifications, and all the errands we need to run.

We may have the best intentions to work out or read a chapter of a personal development book each day, but before we know it, our to-do lists have taken over and our cognitive bandwidth has been used up.

Getting up at 5 A.M., and focusing on the things that matter to us first thing without any distractions, stops this from happening.

2.

Use Day Stacking to Improve One Skill by 1% Each Day
One hour a day doesn’t sound like much when you want to improve a skill, especially when you only spend 20 minutes of that hour reading and learning.

But Sharma argues that a small amount of daily progress can add up.

This is what he calls “day stacking.”

If you aim to improve a skill by just 1% each day, over a year, these days will stack up and you’ll have improved by more than 300%.

“All change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end.”

Robin S. Sharma.

3. Follow the 20/20/20 Rule

Waking up at 5 A.M. alone won’t transform your life. After all, you could just wake up and spend the extra time on social media or watching T.V. The 20/20/20 rule is what makes Sharma’s morning routine so powerful.

Sharma says you should spend 20 minutes on vigorous exercise, 20 minutes on reflection by meditating and journaling, and 20 minutes on growth by reading and learning.

He recommends this order, but, of course, you can customize the routine to suit your life and goals. The point is you get up early and spend an hour bettering yourself each day.

Take excellent care of the front end of your day, and the rest of your day will pretty much take care of itself.

Own your morning.

Elevate your life.

At the top level, the benefits include **** a reduction of stress***** in the morning,
******improved sleep quality****, and an
****overall happier mood.*****

/---------------------------/
**Tips for a Better Sleep Cycle** **Details**
**Go to Bed Earlier** Allows plenty of rest time, at least 7 hours of sleep per night.
**Avoid Sleep Deprivation** Less than 7 hours of sleep may cause morning fight-or-flight mode.
**Maintain Consistent Wake Times** Helps realign your circadian rhythm for better sleep quality.
**Aim for Quality Sleep** A consistent schedule supports uninterrupted, restful sleep.
/---------------------------/

**Time** **Brain Activity and Effects**
Early Morning - Brain feels calm and focused due to changes in chemical composition.
- Prefrontal cortex (responsible for overthinking) is temporarily less active.
- Dopamine多巴胺 and serotonin levels increase, promoting energy and tranquility.
During the Day - Engaging in activities like social media, online interactions, and TV fills up brain "bandwidth".
- Limited mental capacity is left for learning or absorbing new information.
Conclusion Starting the day early allows better focus and productivity, setting a positive tone.

**Tips to Join the 5 AM Club** **Details**
**Start in Increments** Gradually wake up earlier (e.g., from 7:00 am to 6:45 am) to make the transition smoother.
**Adjust Your Sleeping Schedule** Go to bed earlier to ensure at least 7-8 hours of sleep (e.g., asleep by 10:00 pm).
**Plan Your Routine** Prepare essentials the night before (e.g., clothes, shoes, journal) to simplify your morning.
