A G30 Pre LCI 530e is going for less than RM160,000.

Seems like a great bargain to me. Of course, the reason's pretty obvious .. it's cause of the hybrid engine.

But the way I see it, if you were to change all 6 battery modules for around RM30k plus, that'd come to around RM200k which is still pretty acceptable for an otherwise decent car

Any thoughts on this guys?

Low ball some more. Dont worry about the hybrid feature, get the engine condition back tip-top.

Hybrid cars cannot turn off auto stop when car is stationary. Can be a nuisance in tropical country when air cond cuts off almost completely in traffic jam/ lights

If i were you, i will check the car service history first like where the service is done, any claim records... If this car got few big claim case before like within 2~3 years time, good luck and be prepare of the repair cost as it might happen again within the next 2~3 years.

The best thing is, these prices are by BMW Premium Selection so I think the service history probably checks out. And they usually offer an additional 1 year warranty.

driving exp
compared to 530i, it is floating abit although it is heavier than 530i
during corner, you can feel 530e butt is flying off
other than that i think it is a good car, esp for those who do lot of >10KM drive.

the batt.... so far i didn't hear any of my friends complaint about their F30 330e

I think the hybrid battery is least of your concerns. There are many other components in a hybrid car that can go wrong and are expensive to fix.
KLE charging board for instance. Also, there are more errors on startup due to Aux battery, 12V battery, etc. Sometimes cannot drive have to tow to SC.
Need to ensure that you charge and keep the battery within acceptable state of charge range so that it will not cause problems due to low battery.

Overall can be a good deal but also can be problematic. I was looking at the F10 330e and 530e but after test driving them, I feel the non-hybrid versions feel much better. Don't really know why but there is no oomph compared to say the F30 328i pre-LCI.

Yes, people sell or trade in fast/early usually there is "some thing" trigger them, either the car, owner or other reason.
I knew few business/rich owners and they do keep cars which is over 10 years if it is good, for them their mindset is if the new car keep sitting/going in/out of SC, doing a lot of warranty claims or fix what do you think it will be good after warranty ends? Most of them don't like the hassle, even they do have multiple cars on hand and they don't like to waste money or time on a particular car too much unless they really like it.

FYI, this group of people i knew mostly sworn never buy hybrid cars again.. biggrin.gif Now they only go for pure EV or normal combustion engine. All mostly regretted and sold off most of their hybrids from BMW, Merc to Volvo. Only 1 hybrid being the exception is the Toyota/Lexus Hybrid system, seems that is the only 1 less issue and got more affordable aftermarket parts (halfcut) to fix nowadays.

Since it's 2018, probably owner trades in before the 5 year warranty expires but then, modern BMWs tend to fall apart just after 5 years. It does seem like a good bargain. Make sure to check thoroughly and look at the service records. I had a few BMWs that had major issues just after the 5 year mark.

probably can check if the battery warranty is 8 years. If i recall, the normal warranty is up to 5 years and specific for hybrid system up to 8 years....if 8 years of batt coverage...can consider...

Yes thats true also. I think I only see Prius C and not Prius on Malaysian roads here in Klang Valley. Why is that? Is it because of problems and replacing the battery is not an option due to cost?
