Cheap, really. Will this really work in Malaysia?

i thk country is not the issue, the most important is the attenna is suitable to ur data card or not. so i thk it is no problem with sierra 875.

i had juz change to I2GO data unlimited RM99 package.
currently using my 838pro as modem first, still consider to buy sierra 875u or huawei e220.

so far my comment is I2GO at my place is not really stable, the ping result is almost same with maxis broadband.download speed is not stable, sometime can get fast, sometime slow. i thk maybe because of using phone as modem, but average still better than maxis broadband.

i apply a new sup line for this I2GO, coz maxis told me if i wan to add another based on my principle line, they will charge me RM15/month.

download speed is ok, upload speed suck~

Is it possible to connect the E220 to a router?
*
i thk this is not a problem, try to make a bridged between your NIC and e220. and then plug network cable from NIC to router .

This is a simple guide of "how to share your internet for huawei e220, sierra 875 and 875u" i learnt from microsoft website

first of all, u need check every thing i list out there is ready.
1) your 3g data card, connect it first before start.
2) computer with network card
3) wireless router (i am using linksys wrt54g)

To perform this internet sharing, your computer cannot be shutdown. this is because your computer will need to become a middle man between the 3g data card and wireless router.

INTRODUCTION
This article describes how to set up and use the Internet Connection Sharing feature in Microsoft Windows XP. With Internet Connection Sharing, you can use networked computers to share a single connection to the Internet.

How to use Internet Connection Sharing
To use Internet Connection Sharing to share your Internet connection, the host computer must have one network adapter that is configured to connect to the internal network, and one network adapter or modem that is configured to connect to the Internet.

On the host computer
On the host computer, follow these steps to share the Internet connection:
1. Log on to the host computer as Administrator or as Owner.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click Network and Internet Connections.
4. Click Network Connections.
5. Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet. For this, we choose our 3g data card network connection.
6. Click Properties.
7. Click the Advanced tab.
8. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
9. If you are sharing a dial-up Internet connection, select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box if you want to permit your computer to automatically connect to the Internet.

10. Click OK. You receive the following message:
When Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, your LAN adapter will be set to use IP
address 192.168.0.1. Your computer may lose connectivity with other computers on
your network. If these other computers have static IP addresses, it is a good idea to set them
to obtain their IP addresses automatically. Are you sure you want to enable Internet
Connection Sharing?

11. Click Yes.
12. Plug a cable from NIC to router internet port.

The connection to the Internet is shared to other computers on the local area network (LAN). The network adapter that is connected to the LAN is configured with a static IP address of 192.168.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

On the wireless router
just set your router to "automatic configuration DHCP" for the internet connection type.

Sorry must have confused it with Celcom... you are right, no limitation on BW, only subject to availability of Service in an area.
Yes you can set it to Auto or 2G for GPRS/EDGE connection... should be fine.

Added on January 16, 2008, 3:07 amJust got my antenna : Sierra Aircard 3G/HSDPA 5dB External Antenna from a LYN member.... great deal!!! [Thanks man... icon_rolleyes.gif ]
Eventhough it is suppose to be 5dB gain.... but with the 12 feet extension sitting at my balcony... i manage to improve the signal from -85dBm to -68dBm!!!! Equivalent to 50% gain in speed.... thus now cruising in 1.6mbps.

whr u get the antenna? how much?

I got it for RM150... from some sales posting. It is a personal sale and not by resellers. It will be difficult to bring in thru eBay as there is a chance for it to be confiscated by Custom (w/o SiRim and stuff)... my signal used to be 3~4bars but now it is a constant 5bar (<-70dBm).... I notice a big difference in http/ftp download as it very constant(+/-10kBps) unlike previous, where the speed varies +/-30kBps. Trust me, if you not on 5-bar, you will notice the differences. Now I'm considering doing a self-installation on the new firmware to 7.2mbps as it claims to be very stable in terms of performance (slight improvement) but still watching some forums' comment before executing it.
*
nice~now i also planning to get 1 for my 875u. can u take some pic for ur anttena?
i cant found the guide for upgrading to 7.2mbps, do u hv it?
thx.

Yeap, they are doing in on MaxisBB. To my surprise, I2Go is not the same. There are some webpage I used to have un-finish image loaded on my E220 but not on my current I2Go (sierra 875). Keep on refreshing the page... it might get it right later on....  doh.gif
if you mean www.hotmail.com then I've no issue opening the login page, but i don't have an account so i did not try login' on.

Btw, I've used to have the "connected but no data transfer issue" once every week or so, but I realized that it is the my own hardware connection intermittent. I tot it sounded low-tech solution but everytime i encounters it, I just need to softly pressed my aircard upwards and the data started flowing in again, maybe my case is an outliers scenario but it solved it everytime.
*
i can open www.hotmail.com, but cant login.

sometime i also will hv "connected but no data transfer issue", but try disconnect then connect back again.should be no problem.
