Gundam wing is the first gundam with market targeted at females, which is why we see many bishies instead of bijins. Honestly, the new gundams crapped since the introduction of another anime that it wanted to be but it can't, Shin Seiki Evangelion. While eva can pull it off beautifully emo 14yo piloting mecha, Gundam can't as we saw in Seed. They tried to fix that with Shinn, but Shinn can never be Shinji who never knew love from his family. Shinji was screwed because he wanted to please his father. Shinn was screwed simply beacause he was hardwired that way.
