a general question for all hedgehog owners here,

how old were your hedgehogs when you take them for the first check-up with the vet?

Demon seems to be terbalik, his shoulder area is broad, and the butt end is kinda narrow......like the hedgie version of Johnny Bravo.

if you plan to breed, it's best if your male hedgehog is at least 6 months old. then again, don't just buy one and breed immediately. i'd say let it adapt for several months before you attempt to breed them.

in the end of the day, what is your purpose of breeding hedgehogs? to make profit, or to produce good quality offsprings?

if your intention is the former, i would have no further decent advices. but if it's for the latter, please do make sure that you are having two quality hedgehogs with good temperaments, healthy, etc before trying to breed them. if you were to breed and get really grumpy and bad-tempered hoglets later on, chances are this trend will go on and on and on, which is not good for future hedgehog buyers.

when i received my hoglet back then, it was incredibly tame. in fact, until today it has never balled up, i'm wondering if it knows how to ball up. this is an example of a good quality hedgehog from a good breeder, i am very happy and satisfied to have dealt with him.

if you really want to breed, take it as a hobby and try to produce really good quality offsprings, and make sure you study all the necessary infos to equip yourself well, you never know what will happen.

is she bite u once can she still be consider a nice girl?
or should i not breed her?
just asking only

btw she bite till it bleed

it's normal that a hedgehog takes a nibble on your fingers once in a while. they'll lick and chew a little, then produce some white froth in its mouth before annointing itself. that's what my hedgehog does after having not seen me for several days.

but if it's biting you until bleed, chances are she's not really that tame. but that could be because you're new to her as well, she's not familiar with you. how old was she when you bought her? she may have bonded well with the previous owner, that she's afraid of strangers' smells.

actually, i'd recommend you to read the website hedgehog world. it contains a lot of articles written by various hedgehog lovers, and you'll be able to get an idea on how to test your hedgehog's temperament, plus it teaches a lot of other stuff too like breeding...smile.gif i find it easier to take care of one after reading all the necessary infos before getting a hedgehog.

hope that helps. i researched for almost half a year before i decided to get one. and to be honest, i'm still learning something new everyday after bringing home the hedgehog...smile.gif

well, my hedgehog self-annoints after licking people's fingers, and for some reason it also annoints after licking my bedroom's floor. maybe the floor has a funny scent.wink.gif

well, the thread's certainly a lot livelier since cimredopyh's back, nice to see updated posts around.

i didn't notice your and muchan86's hedgehogs are actually algerians until you showed the last picture, that's great. and all this while i thought we don't have algerians in malaysia.

and you're really good in decyphering the colour guide, i've read it dozens of times and still don't get the differences. i need to get more hedgehogs to analyze, hehehe...wink.gif

bonai : kidding oni mah.... I'm not that bad la T_____T btw, on ebay also can offer friendship? xD i just know that... lol

Cim : at first I was thinking like that.. but after sometime I realize that Ken's nose is not black -.-' it looks a bit light brown... so I got confused also xD I used to think his nose is black but now it seems look light brown plus the quills is still heavy snowflakes isn't it?

living : I thought only algerian that available in malaysia? xD cuz when the first I search for hedgehog here, I've been told there's only algerian available and legal here =]
really?

now that you've mentioned, i just took a good long look at my hedgehog, and yeah, it is an algerian, hahaha... sweat.gif

my bad, i've never noticed the mask of the hedgehog picts posted here before this.

so i guess we have only algerians in malaysia huh? seriously, i've always thought that algerians are less common, but then again i've never paid attention to the hedgehogs' cheek patches, should've read more before commenting.

mine has a very dark mask with black nose. should be an algerian dark grey, but i wouldn't know more until he has shed all his baby quills. still not very clear with the quill colours.

i got nibbled twice by my hedgehog so far, but it's doing it for self-annointing purposes i guess, from what i see lah... not the painful type, just a little lick and teeth, then start bending body in awkward position and start annointing.wink.gif

yeah, where's the hedgehog picture in the pets wonderland thread? boohoo...

woah, your hedgehog looks very fat in those pictures, hahaha...wink.gif

bath once every week or every fortnight would be fine, although i personally think that hedgehog has that 'smelly' scent anyway, it'll smell the same the day after you bath it.

aahh, i haven't seen my hedgehog for almost a week, and last night when i took it out, it kept licking my hands and clothes, and then self-annoint. a bit unfriendly too, must've been left alone for too long, it bit my fingers twice, so hard i could see the bit mark (4 teeth) although i didn't bleed.

didn't want to hang around me last night, kept searching for its hidebox and went back in there to lepak, sigh...wink.gif

man, it sucks when your hedgehog's showing you face, hahaha...

@bonai,

igel is the hedgehog's name, it belonged to a regular forumer here called yrh0413 until its death some time back.

i've gone through yrh0413's blog before and found some very beautiful pictures of igel, guy's a good photographer...smile.gif

to be honest, i was somehow influenced by the many photos in this thread before deciding to get one myself, so just to let you guys know: don't stop uploading your hedgehogs' photos!
