I've literally reached airports 30mins before departure time and still made it for an international flight.

Count yourself lucky. If they go by the book, it's within their right to reject you. So don't try your luck too often.

As much as I don’t like sampah company AA, it’s your fault here TS. International flights minimum arrive & check in 2hrs before la bro. Even better arrive 3hrs before, counting in if q is long.

International flight. Some airport says 2 hours and some 3 hours. So depends. Generally, try to be 3 hours.

Yes, 3hrs is best practice for any international flights

Yes, with some small or less busy airport or less full flight, you might get away with shorter time. But I wouldn't want to risk it myself.

Exactly, TS thought can board flights according to his own time. When all this while, those airlines were just being courteous & nice to him. They have all the rights to deny passenger late below a certain a time limit & it’s not airline fault for doing it

a few things to point out
1. why is TS playing the minute game like that?
2. many here suggested other airlines as if this rules don't apply to EVERY airlines on earth
3. even if they let your luggage through at that time, there's a very high chance your luggage won't made it to the destination...thn TS will make another post about it

old habits. He probably think international flights are same as domestic flights. This is common mentality with people from small towns with small airports.

It's morning flight. AA has a tendency to take off early for morning flight.

My boss also used to take AA and always got caught out. He only has hand carry bag on top of it. However, he also missed a couple of flight even without the need to check-in baggages because the plane took off earlier.

You're literally lying that you reached the airport 30mins before departure time. Even if you have no check-in luggage, it takes more than 30 mins to go through the whole process to reach your gate.

Just suck it up that you messed up and don't blame the rules.

Always always go early. You'll never know what might went wrong.

Better wait at the departure gate than cursing can't check in or what not.

Simple.

I kid you not, I have checked in 45mins before departure time for an 8 hour international flights before. No problemo. But as mentioned by others, Air Asia seems to be doing this I think. I'm at KLIA right now and I see people checking in for 9:20am international flights.

Well lucky you that time then. It was the goodwill of the airline staff that got you in. If shit hit the fan, airline just going to bring out the rule book

EDIT: Learnt my mistake and I accept it - should've known about AA better.
So I was supposed to board 6:55am flight to Jakarta and I arrived at luggage counter by 5:49am the very least. There were only two staffs managing the counters not just for Jakarta but all flights to Indonesia. I heard no announcements nor anybody came up to me or the queue asking any Jakarta passengers.

When my turn came up to the counter, the lady simply said "we asked /announced last call an hour before the departure time - where were you? We cannot check in the baggage now"

I HAVE PROOF I was at the queue at 5:49 as I sent a photo to a group chat saying I'm coming soon. Can I do anything about it other than whining and spoiling my day? Tweet at mavcom or someone?
