A good explanation but then the funny part CN one which is non official will get 5g out of the box
For example my OP9 and Razr2022 ๐
That's because OnePlus and Motorola are considered "known brands" by our telcos. Another theory is that Google has no SIRIM certification at all in MY (unlike brands like OnePlus or Motorola etc), which explains why the telcos do not want to recognise them fearing penalties.
This is the FAQ from our DNB (Digital Nasional Berhad):
Does DNB certify and approve devices to be 5G-enabled and how long would it usually take for a 5G device to be โcertifiedโ for use in Malaysia?DNB does not certify nor approve 5G devices. We only provide facilities for the manufacturers to conduct tests such as initial static tests, as well as a test route to conduct their on-the-road drive tests so their devices can be configured, and firmware updated to be compatible with the 5G network.
Meanwhile, device certification is led by SIRIM โ with guidance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) โ as is standard procedure.
Customers are encouraged to check with their service provider and/or device manufacturer for the best 5G-capable devices within their budgets.
