Sometimes I feel stupid converting my money into USD when ringgit is weak. But learning from 1mdb, that is the best course of action.
*
you had plans for your usd... that is fine lah...

its not easy to time the market... need charting skills, understanding of central banking, interest rate differentials and big economic events... ie, forex trading skills... lol...

you may remember ive been converting usd to myr... but stop doing it this past year... lol... feel stupid now... got distracted with life... hahaha...

effects of 1mdb wont last forever... usd is not as strong as before... remember before 1mdb, myr was 3.2 to the dollar... must always keep an open mind wink.gif

USD as for now... Still is global currency no matter what..

All those dollar detachment something don't really work.. BRIC etc. all... Takes time.... USD would still be in demand..

What we looking now is the impact of irresponsible decision on US fed previously... When they crazily increase the rates sharply like no tomorrow.... Till like 5% and now realize it's time to reduce drastically too....

Meanwhile BNM... Just chill... Don't follow US Fed... Keep the OPR same only... That's why MYR become weaker past year...
*
us needed to increase rate sharply to prevent recession that could also trigger a global recession too... they been doing reverse repo but it wasnt enough...

bnm cannot follow because our economy already gg... a lot of people n company will go bankrupt...

QUOTE(Cubalagi @ Sep 23 2024, 10:09 AM)
They had to increase rate not to prevent recession but to fight inflation. US CPI hit 9.1% in 2022 in case u forgot. Before that they were talking transitory inflation, then they panicked.
*
no I didn't forget... high inflation often lead to a recession if rate hikes didn't work out... this is the fear...

but you are correct, the hike is direct response to fight inflation...

U n Ramjade r of higher level, i langsung tak faham.

he also sells puts...

so instead of buying stock at 5... he sells a put at say strike price 3, and collects premium say 100

if prices go up... he keeps the 100...

if prices go down... he is forced to buy at 3 but keeps the 100... he then switch to selling calls...

this way can profit without chasing the market, and buys at the lower price he is willing to pay... wink.gif

rinse n repeat a few times, soon you can earn a good living doing this part time...

his usd is reserved as collateral not sitting idle... if one has a big enough usd account, it can earn interest too... wink.gif

QUOTE(MGM @ Sep 28 2024, 10:00 AM)
The Malaysian ringgit (MYR) has experienced a significant turnaround in 2024. Currently, the U.S. dollar (USD) to MYR exchange rate stands at 4.12, an unusual level for the MYR, which traditionally tends to depreciate against the USD. This recent surge in strength is not attributable to a single factor but is instead the result of a combination of domestic and international developments that have positively influenced the currency. This article will explore the potential drivers behind the MYR’s performance and analyse its implications for the Malaysian economy.

QUOTE(Wedchar2912 @ Oct 3 2024, 02:55 PM)
the simpliest and yet quite risky a trade is to convert to usd and load up on chinese stocks... (either use etf or adr)... mind you, this is only if you believe in the FOMO momentum that is still ongoing regarding china.
or get some bond funds to profit from the us rate cut (this one seems less risky, but in reality not great vs fx movement).

buy usd and keep it at home is the dumbest way to go about doing it... it may end up being profitable, but very inefficient.

having said all these, I am not converting anything anymore... just telling you the different ways.
*
every time you buy on news, you are already 50% late n risky...

trend is your friend until it ends...

HSBC Global account can convert directly to a currency they offer. No need to convert to ringgit. But conversion rates is not good. The best is still RHB with small spread. But need to convert back to ringgit.

just saw this. Moneymatch USD and Wise USD rates are identical, so if RHB MCA usd offers cheaper than Wise, go for RHB

if IBKR is in the picture though, go for moneymatch SGD->sg banks-IBKR USD
*
since rhb mca in own name can direct to ibkr less hassle imho... but i dunno who is cheaper...

also dunno if rhb will send it... lol...
