Any /ktards know the history behind the names of these places?

Sri Petaling=大城堡
Bukit Mertajam= 大山脚
Taman Bukit Permai= 小云顶
JB= 新山
Sermban= 芙蓉
Penang Mainland=北海
Kampung Cempaka= 大港
Damansara=白沙罗

These places don't have names where their pinyin match their BM/ English names. For example:

Kepong= 甲洞
PJ =八打灵
Melaka=马六甲
Kuantan= 关丹
ipoh=怡保

Caonima

means fakyurmader also means alpaca

Ipoh Menglembu 万里望
Penang Balik Pulau 普罗

Jiu Lai
Pa Sang

芙蓉 = sungai ujong
白沙罗 = sg damansara

these names exist before WW1

Sermban= 芙蓉

Seremban was Sungai Ujong

Says cakap Damansara is a typo

balik pulau more correct one is 浮罗山背

that name is local call one

Well, most Chinese also don't know the place if said in Chinese hence no way most will know why. No point to discuss

any location/city english name translate to mandarin/chinese will indirectly sound poetic lol

sad that many simply do not wanna be bilingual here.

新山 long time ago heard. Very weird imo but I never questioned about it.
