I'm new to bikes. Got my B licence recently and I'm looking to purchase a bike. I was looking at different bike shops and what they offer and I noticed a lot of the bike shops have really bad reviews with words like rude, tak kisah, take money and no more good sales rapport etc. This is especially so among the bike shops in Klang Valley.

Is this a normal industry trend in the bike selling business?

Thats normal.

You'd only get good service from official distributor dealers. They have a brand to look after.

I find those that sell many different brands tends not to be bothered. Probably because for big bikes, a lot of riders probably just window shopping and not buying. I personally find Eang Chun pretty decent, happy to entertain questions. I suspect part of this is also due to them focusing a lot more on smaller kapchais and scooters where they may have a higher chance of a quick sale and higher profit margins. Big bike customers typically need " a bit more work".

Yup. Can look for Ah Boy at Eang Chun. Another one with decent sales is Sendayan Motor in Nilai

Feel bad for him.. I bought my 1st bike there and recently recommended my friend to trade in and bought a bike from them.. Maybe because our bike no problems so we never encountered this la, so can't comment much.. But I like their sales service and also genuine mileage.. But one thing I do notice is they tent to do minimal restore to keep the bike price low.. But good thing is they never lied that they do this and that.. Example I ask whether the bike got VC before, he just tell me not sure.. Some heartless shop will just tell you yea already did this and that, end up we skip all those services then at the end we acknowledge it the hard way..

Thanks for all your comments. I'm contemplating getting either a used Honda Rebel or Kawasaki Vulcan S or a stretch, a HD Street 750. I presume these are big bikes, and for my parting with my money, as a potential customer I will definitely ask more questions hence I'll really appreciate a bit of courtesy. Maybe I should just do a research and rank these shops in terms of ruder power. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Argh, no HD please... Haha... Maybe I'm just biased, but I do have handful of friend feeling the same too.. Mostly I've seen tend to live in their own universe, or maybe they think they are more atas than other riders.. Hardly can see HD mixing ride with other bikes... Usually they just ride in their own HD group.. And many got attitude problems, at least that's what I see and feel la...

PM Balakong side so I don't have to deal with them, thx.

Back on the main topic, seems most of the dealers will try to get you to take loan, service is hit or miss depending on who you were dealing with.
Personally bought my Dinamik second hand from Soon Heng in Taman Suntex Cheras, no bullshit from them.

Eang Chun on the other hand gave me a pretty bad taste, tried to give me the ring around rosy when I tried to get my Pulsar from them especially the aftersales so I just fucked off to Puchong for servicing after first service. Got the bike off them anyway cause they were the only dealers I could find that was selling at MSRP, other dealers were marking up prices by a few hundred to 1k.

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif That's a great observation on HD owners. Frankly whatever bike I get, I don't intend to join any "gang" and go riding with them. At best, I'll go for a cruise by myself or with my partner. Maybe by doing that, some will see me as ATAS too rclxs0.gif

Back to the topic, have anyone dealt with iCity in Shah Alam? They have a few Vulcan S and Rebel and pricing seems OK with RM1K of macam-macam stuff for customers to choose be it services or accessories

Yea, I actually quite like solo too.. What I mean is not just that mix riding, is attitude when approaching other rider.. Salam xbalas when ride, hogging right lane cruising @ 130, hogging left lanes or when lane filtering.. Even they can just ride to side a bit also they won't care.. They usually don't give a s**t what happen behind them.. Me personally I keep looking at side mirrors.. Especially when road is wet or jam.. If I'm blocking anyone even kapcai also I'll try squeeze aside when have a chance to let them pass.. And worse case, when at stops chit chat with them they just give entertaining answers and walk away soon after.. Worst scenario my friend talk with one and he just walk away.. Dunno really can't hear or he just don't care..

Yeah they are.

Only one with official dealership would tone down their attitude.

Some don't even want to service you if you plan to buy a bike with cash.

Some even push for more money if you want to buy a bike from them

I assume that all bikes are the same, all customers are the same...follow their rules in buying, talk less, take loan and whatever sales tactics in order to earn more commission.

Time for me to visit a few shops and see for myself.

I'll start with some shops in Shah Alam and PJ since it is closest to my home.

There was a thread on iCity not too long ago. Maybe you can search for it. Let's just say it wasn't too rosy.

An associate of mine gets his bikes from Sim motor..seems pretty decent. But that guy changes bikes like we change underware. In the past 2 years he has gone through 5 bikes. So he definately will get better service.

YMMV.

I think is how you approach the sales as a person, and build that relationship. Salesmen and saleswomen have seen all kinds of shoppers, and they need to figure out which types to ignore.

Think of it this way, they are making a living, while we take our hard earned cash to buy an expensive toy. While you're shopping, they are working. But of course, when we're working, some of them off-day.

Some ppl go around shopping for the cheapest bike down to the last hundred or two, and expect the best after sales service. Honestly speaking, some shops can afford to choose their customers now - too much money going around but not enough bikes to supply.

Totally disagree..In sales line, it's the other way round.. Salesperson should have build the relationship and not the customer.. Customer are paying, so direct or indirectly salesperson is earning from customers.. Talking from POV of ex salesperson..

If those salesperson thinking they have enough sales to be selective, then please don't beg when your time is up, it's that simple.. You can choose whom to approach and we can choose from whom to buy as well..

And as for customer being fuzzy or looking for cheap bike, hey, that's what salesperson are paid for.. Of course everyone choosing the best service with minimal price.. We are not millionaires which we can spend money like water.. But still at the end, I believe if the salesperson's service is good and being informative enough, customer will be willing to spend a couple more.. It's all up to salesperson's skills..
There are literally minimal ppl to just go see bike for fun.. Almost every customers are potential customers, just that maybe pricing, bikes model, or also they don't have enough money yet.. But even if it is so, once the customer have enough money they will still come back if the service is good..
That is what a salesperson for.. To give suggestions or persuade them to buy.. If your shop only want serve 100% deal customer, better of just put a computer at front desk.. Want buy, place order, don't want buy go away.. Why wanna waste money paying to salesperson every month? (This phrase is a lecture by my sales manager back then)..
