Just got a new 8GB ram for laptop
slot 1 = DDR3L 8GB 1600
slot 2 = DDR3 4GB 1600

But after install, can only see 8GB running
why not dual channel running?

Ram expansion best is buy exact same manufacturer + speed + single or dual sided

dont mix n match

might hit into issue like timing issue which resulted random bsod

Must be same type.

Some laptops like ThinkPad X230 can use both types without issues.

unless your DDR3L mention that it can run both 1.35v and 1.5v, it will not run. But then DDR3L are backward compatible with DDR3,, just depend on the manufacturer to use it or not.
Your laptop original DDR3 or DDR3L? some laptop are specific to use DDR3L only.

Got motherboard or OS limit?

by right DDR3L when running 1.5v its a DDR3

inb4 can download more ram

I exchange slot for the ram

Slot 1 = DDR3 4GB 1600
Slot 2 = DDR3L 8GB 1600

now can see 12GB running

Problem is HDD run high like 92-98% when machine just start
is it normal?

If HDD then confirm normal especially new PC with fresh OS

Got like 100 windows shit running in background

DDR3L is 1.35V
DDR3 is 1.5V

Some DDR3 RAM can run at 1.35V without problems and some cannot.

When mixed, both will run at 1.35V or 1.5V depending on the BIOS.

I have mixed both 1.35V and 1.5V RAM sticks before. No problems and stable for days too. Most important the BIOS must support it.

Yes, it depends on the board and bios. This is because some ddr3L board will not support ddr3 at all. So if you put 1.5v ram into the slot, it won't detect it.

But if it can support, there will be no issues. Mixing different speed and size is not a problem but bios will select lower speed (eg. Ddr3 1600 and 1833, comouter will run at 1600)

Can but not advisable.

dual channel doesnt work because your memory module not the same size.
i think dd3l can operate at higher voltage, even you could undervolt your ddr3 module.

Nvm don't need dual channel.. as long as 8+4 got 12GB
not running bench, only use for work

well dual channel does benefit real-usage application too.but not many people will noticed anyway.

RAM can mix, but not really recommended.

Change the HDD to SSD

yup.lesson learnt from me ..i also wasted one of the stick earlier

but mine is even teruk..because that cb laptop come with on board memory (soldered)

which cannot be disabled..slot another ram and hit into random bsod or unable to detect

in the end have to check the on board memory chip model and find that exact OEM model (something like hynix or whatever)

plug in ...smooth like butter


thats why whoever ask me for ram ..if addon = buy exact same model

or ..just take away old stick and plug in whatever that you want (that the laptop/board can support)

like many things, the OS id getting more demanding
usually so high due to win update scan or av scan or whatnot

the best is to chg from hdd to ssd.
ssd are cheap now.
like 200 to 300 can get 1 decent size
ur current hdd, can simpan
buy a 2.5 inch hdd enclosure, then u got 1 external hdd to keep your data
enclosure like 20 to 40 bucks only
