I see.
So the Predator seen in the 1700s could possibly be of different (inferior) caste hence the difference in terms of fighting skills, weaponry and technology?
My take on it is like this:
Young predators which haven't earn their pulse cannon or pistols can still hunt, but without the said tech. Its so they can build up their hunting/combat skill.
The young predators are not as skilled and experience as the veterans, making a lot of mistakes as seen during AVP. Only one predator did survive the test and it was carrying a chestburster xenomorph too. In the end credits you can see it and the sequel it turn into a Predaliean.
< spoiler alert >
So in this movie, Naru use her hunting skills, medicine skills, observation skills, ambition (she wants to be a hunter, not a gatherer or witch doctor) and revenge (for her brother) to beat the young predator.
