Hello all, I'm interested to learn piano, and im a beginner.
My budget is around RM2.3k, and i'm looking for the most value worthy digital piano at this price range.

Currently considering the following models:
1. Casio CDP-S110
2. Yamaha P-45
3. Roland FP-10

I'm leaning more towards the Casio CDP-S110 because this seems to be a new and updated model (replacing the CDP-S100), whereas the Yamaha P-45 and Roland FP-10 seem to be quite aged in the market already.

Can any piano experts here guide me in choosing the best value for money digital piano for a beginner like me?
Is the Casio option a good buy?

Thank you notworthy.gif

Hello, i aint musicians but am looking for kid @ beginner. In fact when my kid started i just bought those cheap RM200 from lazada and used for 2 years + for his lessons. Works wonders.

Beginner no need 88 keys. 76 keys more than enough.

I am going to upgrade for them and i decided Yamaha PSR-EW425. But over your budget @ RM2800

super bad advice you have there

its gonna cost more for you to continuously upgrade over the years than just buy a 88 key dp straight away

your Yamaha PSR-EW425 is a keyboard, not a dp, if your kid's teacher recommended that, fire him/her immediately. rubbish recommendation.

i pity your kid, h/she gonna get tons of bad mistakes learning on a keyboard

personally, i felt yamaha digital pianos are shit, even their acoustic lineups are bad. this is echoed by another grade 8 friend of mine, the keys are way too light

the casio has an improved version of the key action, i dont know how well it improved but the first gen action was pretty good and solid to play on.

(although for mine the rubber deteriorated after some time, took to a shop to fix it for myr 1k. the technician also mention several units have the same problem as mine.)

roland piano have the best sound, hands down, the keys are eh and as you said the fp-10 is aging

so personally i would recommend the casio for a beginner

upgrade to an acoustic when you are ready, nothing beats an acoustic.

honestly would recommend going for an acoustic immediately if you have the money, even moving from a dp to a piano would need time to relearn some things, there's a difference in the feel

I don't think so. U just have to see which angle u are coming from.
For me kid beginners, or even other beginners, u can't know whether the interest remains. U based on your already know how to play like a pro will remain bias where people need to have weighted keys , etc. The only downside I see digital keyboards(DK) not being weighted.
Beginners I see what they learn is simple songs like London bridge and singing doremi. They are basically learning to recognize the keys and listen to play etc. That's what beginners are.

DK has come a long way and they now even have touch sensitivity. U can of course argue the feel is different but the goal here is to learn how to play. DK also I find it's more interesting to kids or beginners because it has many features than DP. It can keep the children remain interested than the old school piano / acoustic piano.

I think it depends on what u want. The old school way , the just learn to play and then when u want to fully focus on just acoustic piano they can switch.

With that I don't think it's a bad advise without giving any points on why it's bad besides the weighted keys or the so called feel which is subjective and debatable that I already know before deciding.

beginner but buy 2.3k keyboard

really?

also its not subjective nor debatable, its a bad idea, ask any qualified instructors out there 10/10 of them will tell you the same thing, but you know better than them right?

heres one bad habit your kid will pickup by starting off on a keyboard

because keyboard has equal weight keys, your kid wouldnt learn to control the force on the keys, it will sound fine on the keyboard, because its forgiving, but transition to an acoustic, all the bad habit will come out

but its your money and your kid, you decide whats best.

it is bad advice. RM2800 for a keyboard? You can get a cheap DP for that with full 88 keys. A cheap DP is still way better than a keyboard. The thing with music instrument is to learn it right. Don't learn the wrong thing. It's hard to unlearn.

Roland gets my vote. but mind you the action may be slightly heavier. Takes some time to get used to.

Sound and feel wise the FP10 is better but we went for the P45 anyway cos my kid was taking Yamaha classes

His first instrument so we didn’t push the budget
