there's actually a Legend of Zelda Thread... sweat.gif

but I guess, it'll be good, to have a dedicated topic on The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS) or The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)...

my copy should be shipped by now... hmm.gif

Actually, I did play windwaker, up to 70-80% of the game. Good game, but it's just the puzzles that gets to me.. More combat would be more of my liking.

just got to this event where i have to 'say something loud' to get the attention of someone behind a dungeon door......thank God i am not playing in public places....lolz!!!

oo.. I want to buy the guide.
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-ly-49-...0-263w-4-6.html

play asia charges ~103.29 MYR, so I assume it is free shipping as it is 0.5kg only.
is it susceptible to tax?

Or if someone know a better place to get it please let me know.

Thanks.

Don't get me wrong, TP was awesome. The wiimote aiming beats the crap out of analog aiming in GC, but still, the puzzles were a bit easy and felt kinda short. That's despite the 50-hour play time, haha.

He said he will look into it, and if he's gonna bring it over, he'll come here[Ninty] first and tell everyone about it wink.gif

But if you guys really want him to supply it, I suggest you PM him and create a demand nod.gif

Does anyone notice the graphics of TP in wii is much blurry than the crystal clear GC TP? i thought wii's graphics chip is more superior and it uses a full dvd with more space for textures? and to think wii' version is roughly ported from the GC version although the game is mirrored in both games. made me out of balance for a while.

bid still mad over zelda? honestly in my opinion, i think these guidebooks are not worth buying at full-price.... the gameshops in singapore import a lot of these guidebooks by bulk and over time, those that do not sell ended up being heavily-discounted.

the last time i was there in june 07, i remember seeing portrait of ruin and zelda TP (collector's edition) guidebooks discounted, some to as little as under $10. hard to believe but it's true........ brows.gif

lol. after several hours playing this brand new zelda, i seductively need to re-emphasize the godliness (gamingly speaking) of this spanking new crazee of the world. have you ever played the legendary hideo kojima's MGS? well, zelda:ph have the espionage-esque gameplay like MGS, sans the PS3's HD graphics. in what way i say that?

the MGS-esque of zelda:ph

well, for example, there are certain types of indestructible monsters in the zelda-verse dungeon, where you need to avoid of being seen by them. the monsters have their own vision ranges like this familiar < (well, you know the famous V binocular vision), thus you have the possibility to sneak behind them and stealthly slip to another side of the door. wow!

another thing is the famous 'knock-the-wall-to-!-them'. to set fool of them, you can hit the wall with your weapons (like a sword or a boomerang), and they will go [!] and search where the sound came from. isnt that amazing? seriously liek MGS. deym.

well, you can also throw a container before the monsters (or even hit them with a boomerang). they will turn back, look around with the WTH-ish search. oh shi- nice gile.

nice gile. small game, yet It comes with that kind of gameply.

another wows of zelda:ph are:

diablo -ish (you can equip primary/secondary weapons, use magic items, collect dropped item)
devil may cry -ish (multiple slash, rolling, attack combo, instant swap primary/secondary weapons, bosses stages)
price of persia -ish (lotsa trap waiting, combi lock puzzles, strategized steps and moves, door/ passage with timers)
... (will add later)

played for only several hours. i need to dive deeper into the game. stay tuned. lolx. 5/5 distinction.

Mod edit: No need to mention file size....

ah i see.....so is this new zelda title developed in-house by Nintendo or by Capcom's Flagship? as i know Flagship developed all the GBC episodes as well as Minish Cap/Link to the Past GBA port....Nintendo probably haven't work on a Zelda handheld since the legendary Link's Awakening........ hmm.gif

true, so far nintendo are only responsible for link awakening and phantom hourglass. minish cap is still a product of flagship.

haha, although i am interested in zelda series, the urge to get any ori games has diminished edy since i still got lots of unfinished games waiting for me. well, it certainly can wait i think. hmm.gif

hehe, i did play wind waker b4 but havent completed it bcos i was stuck at some part. no need la to play tat game since even nintendo said u might be even interested to check out wind waker after completing phantom hourglass but not necessary to play wind waker first.

I have never known about windwaker game prior to this. And i have played to dungeon number 2 for PH. Frankly, I do not see the need to play windwaker as this game is an independent story at its own.

The starting of the game did give a slight back up story about what happened in windwaker. So If you are curious, that should sate your curiosity a bit.

It's quite easy to get into the game..since it uses touchscreen controls. The first few puzzles...like the one in the cave where you have to pull levers...quite interesting ler. I have not played a Zelda game before. Quite an experience. And..nice graphics tongue.gif

Nintendo Offers a Zelda Feather Pen Stylus for your Thoughts

The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass is currently delighting DS owners, and Nintendo wants to hear your thoughts on it. Luckily, they're not expecting you to dole out your opinions for nothing. Right now, if you go to Nintendo's website and register your copy of Phantom Hourglass, you can get access to a survey which will net you a free stylus that looks like a feather pen. Unfortunately, it's just a piece of plastic shaped like a feather, but free is free. You can head over to this site to get started.

'Phantom Hourglass' was worth the wait
Latest in Nintendo's revered series sets the bar high for handheld games

Review
By Scott Taves
MSNBC contributor

Nintendo DS players have been tapping their styli, waiting patiently for their own "Zelda." "The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass," the latest in Nintendo's much revered, long-running series, is upon us. Was it worth the wait?

While "Zelda" purists may take issue with the new aspects of the gameplay, the rest of us are in for a revolutionary handheld game experience.

Nintendo's "Phantom Hourglass" takes up shortly after the close of "The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker," the 2003 GameCube adventure. Princess Zelda - who now goes by the name Tetra - leads hero Link and a motley band of pirates through a series of adventures. During their travels, Tetra gets nabbed after boarding a ghost ship and Link sets out to rescue her. Classic "Zelda" stuff.

The revolutionary part commences as soon as you put stylus to screen. "Phantom Hourglass" is almost entirely played without any conventional controls like the d-pad or buttons. It's a completely fresh approach and it feels wonderful.

Link's movements follow a little fairy: Wherever you tap the stylus, the fairy dutifully floats, Link in tow. While the placement of the stylus occasionally obstructs your view of the game, you get used to it pretty quickly. To lay a beat-down on foes, you'll wield the stylus like a mini-weapon. A little stylus swipe against the screen swings the sword against your enemy and a circular motion around Link's figure results in a devastating 360-degree spin attack.

If you tend to stumble on button combinations and control schemes, "Phantom Hourglass" is made with you in mind. Tapping, dragging and pulling objects for Link to investigate and manipulate opens up the game to players of varied skill levels. (Cue the grumbling of the Zelda" traditionalists.)

The gameplay involves a mix of landlocked quests and seafaring exploration. The dungeon crawls, a "Zelda" mainstay, take place in tight layouts packed with clever puzzles. The smaller dungeons are connected by a larger maze beneath the castle of the Sea King, necessitating return visits. Tedium is ingeniously avoided by a sense of urgency - the castle dungeon is full of poisonous gas. Like dungeons aren't depressing enough.

The maps, another integral part of any self-respecting adventure game, are displayed on the upper DS screen and can be moved down to the main screen at any time. Yet another deft game design move enables notes to be written on the maps, a handy feature that's especially important in solving some of the more difficult puzzles.

An early part of the game sees Link faced with four handles which must be pulled in the correct order. The task becomes simplified when hints are collected and you jot down the order on the map. It's a no-brainer feature that you'll wish you had next time you play a role-playing game.

"Phantom Hourglass" might have felt too small, too restricted without the sea levels. Like "Wind Waker," you can set out on the high seas to reach new lands and embark on optional treasure hunts. The little DS manages to keep up with impressive 3-D scenes while you pilot the ship by drawing lines on the map and target enemies with taps from the stylus.

If you liked the cartoony, cel-shaded look of "Wind Waker," it's back in "Phantom Hourglass." From the top-down perspective, Link looks awfully cute putting along. It's a far cry from the relative realism of "Twilight Princess" for the Wii, but charming nonetheless.

Such a stellar single-player experience is crowned by a simple, frantic two-player battle mode. Local wireless and remote Wi-Fi play pits one player guiding Link through dungeon maps, collecting gems, while the opponent routes enemy guards. Link races to return the gems to his home base. If time runs out or he's caught, the roles switch.

"The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass" is a brilliantly conceived and executed game; a whole new form of handheld gaming that sets the bar higher for games to come. Little Link should be proud.

yes, i agree about able to jotting notes on the map location is one of the superb features of the DS function.

yesterday, the wait is finally over ~got packages from play-asia about 4(four) working days to arrive with free shipping.
the LE guide book is well-worth, blue-color leather like, printed in full colored, a poster size map,Zelda bookmark and a small booklet.

i immediately pop the catridge in and well, still in the cave. this is one of the best game i've played on NDS.

It's very heavy and thick book. Excluding the hardcover, it's still about 1-inch thick. But the pages aren't so bright in colors which is a disappointment. I've seen the guide for Windwaker and that was pretty colorful. This one is a bit dull. Probably the only consolation is that book is not taxable in Malaysia.

For DS games, I usually use GameFAQs.com to find hidden treasures. Here is the Phantom Hourglass one : http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/game/932377.html

On a side note : my pouch got tax 25% and the games was 5% or 10%.

red = add flame to your sword, more damage

blue = enhance your shield, higher chance to block

green = when you slash your sword, it gives out a shockwave

wow. so canggih the gem effect. ahh.. dem... now gatal to play balik semula. to collect and get 100% completion. yeah yah. better if can fight balik all the bosses. pity tho no exp or lvl. if got sure nice.
edit: now, after done playing, all bosses are defeated. what's the replay value aa? what do we do? like for me, the highest replay value goes to EBA and AWDS (as i own them). the lowest maybe the attorney games. lol.

bid, i can't find the premium guidebook here in singapore....so sorry dude.

but they do have both twilight princess Wii and GC version and since they are both retailing for the same price, it's kinda hard for me to decide.

any longtime zelda fan can reommend which version is better? i heard the GC version benefit from the several months of tweaking since it was only released a few months after Wii version (better camera control, etc)

It's the control method lo. For me, I'd rather the GCN controller. Waggle no no. But you'll miss out on the excellent fishing mini-game controls for Wiimote.

sorry about the off-topic, i couldn't find the TP thread...

but the fact that the Wii edition doesn't support dual control ie. RE4 Wii edition, you can't use the GC controller for the Wii version can you?

i suppose it is because the Wii version came out first unlike RE4 which debuted on the GC platform first so adding the dual control for the RE4 Wii edition is easier.

i heard purists complaining that the TP Wii is also "mirrored" ie. Link's aiming became left-handed/right handed instead of the other way, so the GC became the marginally-better version.

eh, have u seen gba games in singapore? i am trying to look for golden sun the lost age.

i dun think there is any difference between the wii version besides the control. well, if u consider mirror world in the game to be a difference?

i think i prefer the GC version cos i'm more used to playing games the old-fashioned way, ie controller but coughing up the enough amount for both version is kinda hard to swallow....

hehe, i would rather try the new control. but then again, twilight princess is originally a game for gamecube, so the gamecube version might be the best.

i saw one mario galaxy guide is also 30% discounted but i am not sure whether it is the normal or limited edition.

well, not all are 30% discounted though. legend of zelda twilight princess limited edition guidebook is only 20% discounted. and most of the brady guidebooks are not discounted at all.
