Thx for the links. I wonder what the prices for older generation CPUs (e.g.Q6600) would be....

QUOTE(shinjite @ Sep 27 2007, 11:43 PM) I think you have to factor in the price of the Q6600 and the performance difference of the Yorkfield (penryn quad) vs the Q6600. If the price of the Q6600 drops a lot but the performance differences are not that much, maybe it is better to get the Q6600. Of course, if you have the $$$, then the best is for you.Case in point - the Wolfdale (penryn dualcore) is, clock-for-clock, on average 5-10% faster than current C2D..... Of course, have to wait a proper review when the procs comes out |

Hmmm.... looks like our hopes for cheaper quads are not going to happen in the near future. Probably because Intel is comfortable at the top.....

I'm also targeting the Q9450. I just hope that these new procs can be "plugged" into our P35 mobos without any issues......

QUOTE(akachester @ Dec 14 2007, 10:13 AM) I thought the QX9650 was released already early last month..Others are still due at 20th January as said by forummer above. It is going to be a nice beginning of the year..LOL..Q9450 is indeed tempting.. Yeah, the high-end model already released. The Q9450 would be very tempting..... alternatively, a cheaper 2nd hand Q6600 G0 stepping would be tempting too!!! |

QUOTE(akachester @ Dec 14 2007, 02:33 PM) LOL...45nm and FSB1333 is very tempting indeed. Ahh..Still thinking whether i should get the E2140 first while waiting for the Q9450 to be released. Estimated date was 20th Jan but i guess waiting another 2 - 4 weeks for the price to stabilize would be a better choice. Meaning, its going to be in February before i get a complete rig..LOL.. Yeah, that would be a good idea. I bought my E6750 the 2nd day it came out, and 1-2 weeks later, bulkers was selling it for much cheaper!!! I'm so itchy in the butt This post has been edited by kmarc: Dec 14 2007, 03:29 PM |

Rigless? Then why not a 2nd-hand CPU e.g. E2160 @ E2140, then sell it later on. Probably will lose some money but these cheap procs won't drop that much. At least can have a rig while waiting....

QUOTE(akachester @ Dec 14 2007, 05:54 PM) Good idea but i will see until how thing goes...LOL..Still estimated price for the Q9450 is how much?Probably RM900+? Supposed to be USD 316. So that is about RM1000-1100. The Q6600 was supposed to be USD 266 (the price never changed), see how much it is selling for now.... QUOTE(lichyetan @ Dec 14 2007, 06:33 PM) Yup. The P35 and X38 chipsets are supposed to support penryn. Current P35 mobos would need a bios update though.... |

QUOTE(dkcc87 @ Dec 14 2007, 06:53 PM) Bios update, means that you have to flash your bios to the latest one that supports penryn CPUs.For example, my gigabyte P35-DS3's current F10 bios still doesn't support penryn CPUs yet. However, certain models of gigabyte mobo already has bios that support them. So just have to wait until a bios that supports penryn for you mobo comes out.... |

QUOTE(akachester @ Dec 14 2007, 09:37 PM) Looking at the motherboard specs, can i be sure that IF it was labelled as 45nm Support, it means its penryn capable? They are supposed to run penryn as long as the bios is up to date. However, previously, it was said that penryn requires 11.0 VRM specs mobo (whatever that means)......Anyway, the only way to be sure is to test these procs on current 45nm-supported mobos..... QUOTE(tkh_1001 @ Dec 14 2007, 11:04 PM) sorry a noob question here... how are those ppl who are having p35-ds3 now supposed to update the bios when they change to penryn? internet download patch or manually change settings in BIOS or something else? Download latest bios for your mobo from their website. This post has been edited by kmarc: Dec 14 2007, 11:23 PM |

QUOTE(E-J@1 @ Dec 14 2007, 11:56 PM) borrow one from ur friends Haha, I see what he meant now. Easy ma, the vendor have to sell you a mobo that supports penryn ma...... alternatively, they can flash a new bios for you? if not steal one from them, later give em back LOL, i think what tkh means is how do ppl wanna update their mobo when they just bought penryn proc + p35 mobo the mobo won't boot up in the first place QUOTE(scph50004 @ Dec 15 2007, 12:40 AM) As far as I know, you need a bios update. If you look at their current range of mobos, some of the updated bios(es) already support penryn while some still don't support them. I guess it takes time to release updated bios(es) for each mobo.....Example here: P35-DS3R has a bios that already supports penryn : http://www.giga-byte.com.my/Support/Mother...?ProductID=2626 P35-DS3, not yet This post has been edited by kmarc: Dec 15 2007, 08:03 AM |

QUOTE(akachester @ Dec 20 2007, 12:36 PM) Damnit Intel...Why are you doing this? Yeah, now thinking of whether to wait for penryn or go for the Q6600..... In that article, no definite release date, they stated that maybe it will be release in February or March, DEPENDING on the performance of AMD's CPU..... |
