Finally! Penryn quad review : Q9300 vs Q6600It seems that Q9300 is a better buy at stock clocks due to the same price point of USD266. However, when it comes to overclocking, it's not really the quad of choice due to it's 7.5x multiplier. This is also taking into consideration that by the time it is released, you can probably get cheaper 2nd-hand Q6600...... Also, for those who is not into video editing/apps that uses 4-cores, the E8500 at USD266 would be the best choice at that price point.... QUOTE(nicawh @ Feb 12 2008, 12:24 AM) thought of buying the new penryn. but then change my mind. no money. Frankly speaking, Intel's new penryn CPU is getting less and less attractive.... no, not because of the performance. It's due to the prices...... Let's see what AMD's phenom can do with it's new revision.... slated to come out in April..... although I don't really give much hope to the initial release, which would probably be around 2.2-2.4Ghz only..... However, native quad core with the capability of controlling each core's speed/voltage is interesting....

QUOTE(arct @ Feb 17 2008, 02:55 PM) uhm, can i get some opinions or suggestions here? well, i had an e6750 but im very interested with e8400 now i do not want to go for quad core and i wouldnt want to spend > RM1k. im using p35 ds3 board. should i take the e8400 now or wait? again, im interested in 2 cores here. and i understand that intel is releasing nehelam chips this q3 or q4, which will be quad and octa core (and maybe 2 core, extreme type probably). but then again, my budget is RM1k below. should i replace my e6750 for e8400? thanks! What do you use your rig for? If just for playing games, just stick to your E6750 for now. It is more than adequate....... You can overclock the E6750 too!

QUOTE(akachester @ Feb 29 2008, 02:19 PM) One thing is that those E8XXX series are still overpriced even after weeks of CNY. If they were to return to their actual RSP - estimated around RM600+, i guess its still a good seller now. Costing over RM700 now is definitely kinda overkill. Some even priced it at RM800 Not only that. To most average users/gamers, the E8xxx is also an overkill in terms of CPU power...... having a E6xxx series CPU is more than adequate for current needs. Unless of course, you really need raw CPU power for CPU-intensive apps...... This post has been edited by kmarc: Feb 29 2008, 02:37 PM

QUOTE(JJ_3lfen @ Mar 17 2008, 09:45 PM) If it's rm1190, you guys think it's worth it or not? or just buy Q6600 at around rm800? or wait for miracle to happen? From some reviews, both OC'ed till a same lvl, Q9450 only 6% faster than Q6600 but the price is like RM400 different!! Not worth it unless you really use/need all 4 cores. Even so, you can probably get a retail 2nd-hand Q6600 G0 for less than RM800......

Intel Yorkfields are definitely a good choice.... minus the bloated prices and the rumoured degradation of the procs at higher voltages....

QUOTE(SpikeTwo @ May 13 2008, 06:24 PM) hmm...seeing the affortable price of the Q6600 and Q6700, is it wise to buy those now? i think i might get a Q6700. Really depends on whether you need 4-cores or not..... for the same price, you could get a faster dual-core that is relatively cooler and overclocks better too.....

QUOTE(SpikeTwo @ May 13 2008, 07:31 PM) bro. cos i am thinking of getting some OEM quads. would it worth it? lol...i din really do much research. cos no time edi. haha...must buy or never (get the same price). Q6700 any good? 90% gaming 10% movie and music and download. LOL... Yeah, if 90% gaming and 10% movie, quad core would not be the choice (even though the OEM quads are cheap but short warranty)..... I'd say go for dual-core.... you can still get quad next time when more games/apps uses 4-cores... Even my E6750 was more than enough for me, gaming and all.... some more OC to 3.5Ghz no sweat.... upgraded to quad just because of folding... This post has been edited by kmarc: May 13 2008, 07:41 PM
