Yeah, Intel is saying probably in February or March. However, they did confirm that it will come out in H1 of 2008. That's anytime in the first 6 months!!!

QUOTE(clawhammer @ Jan 6 2008, 01:04 PM) I'm going to Low Yat Plaza later to have a walk and see if any shops are selling this new chip. However, why is everyone in a hurry? Some people don't have any patience at all..... haih........ bad bad...... should wait like me, bought my E6750 on the day of introduction..... Jokes aside, @ regentcid, mind posting up some screenies? |

Here a review on motherboard compatibility with the penryn. A bit old but hope they update it soon : http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3138&p=4
You can read from the first page, just showing a link for gigabyte mobos.... Edit : Looks like Nvidia chipsets do support penryn? This post has been edited by kmarc: Jan 9 2008, 07:14 AM |

QUOTE(clawhammer @ Jan 9 2008, 11:23 AM) Why not everyone just check from the manufacturer's website and look on whether the latest BIOS supports it? Already checked my mobo (P35-DS3). No new bios update for penryn yet. |

8400 vs Q6600, I'd still go for the Q6600...... need more cores for folding...

QUOTE(akachester @ Jan 28 2008, 07:14 AM) All of a sudden, i am eager to know how far is the difference between the Q9300 and Q9450 here. Would the extra 6mb Cache prove to be a major difference between them.. Don't forget that the multiplier is also lower for the Q9300. Details of quads:Q6600 - 9x multiplier / 2.4Ghz speed / 8mb cache / USD 266 / runs hotter Q9300 - 7.5x / 2.5Ghz / 6mb / USD 266 / runs cooler (due to 45nm process) Q9450 - 8x / 2.66Ghz / 12mb / USD 316 / runs cooler (due to 45nm process) With the lower multiplier, it would be difficult to OC the 9300 to 4 Ghz as you would need 7.5 x 533mhz = 4.0 Ghz. Not many mobos can do that. Furthermore, there would still be the CPU's FSB wall.... The Q9450 would be better with the 8x multiplier. You just need 500mhz bus speed to get to 4.0Ghz..... again, 500mhz is not an easy OC with the average mobo.... That's why I have decided to give the penryn quad a pass for the moment..... maybe next time when it is much cheaper.... for now, going for 2nd-hand Q6600.... QUOTE(cstkl1 @ Jan 28 2008, 11:39 AM) 500fsb quad... its a dream... Yeah... true.... of course, we talking about lower-end quads.....agreed currently i favour the q6600 also.. one thing i can tell u however.. the t-junction is not 105.. suspect around 90-95 Wonder whether it is easy to get higher end Yorkfield to go above 4.0-4.5Ghz..... QUOTE(xen0 @ Jan 28 2008, 12:04 PM) Hey, nice review. This is interesting to me, as I always like to go for the best-bang-for-buck parts.... (not rich ma..... Note : They only estimated the price of the Q9450..... This post has been edited by kmarc: Jan 28 2008, 12:24 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(akachester @ Jan 28 2008, 02:14 PM) Well, you got your point there. But looking in the POV of a non-overclocker, would the Q9300 still be better than the Q6600? Eh? You don't want to OC aaa? Mild OC, more speed for nothing ma..... Yeah, if at stock/mild-mod OC, definitely the Q9300 would be better.... This post has been edited by kmarc: Jan 28 2008, 02:20 PM |
