Anyways, onto what's goin' on.

Well, my OCZ Platinum 3200 1GB (2x512mb) El Rev.2 (man, that's a mouthful) kit died. Well, specifically one of the modules in the kit died so I had to RMA the whole kid.

So, my experience with OCZ Support was 'ok' at best to begin with... but it did get better. This is what happened:

I sent in my RMA of my Platinum 1GB kit and I had to pay for the shipping as per usual for these deals. I don't hear back for about a week and a half, so I call in and talk to the dude on my case.

He says, "Sorry, we don't carry your ram anymore and since it's the top of the line we don't have anything higher. So how do you feel about having the Gold 3200 El GX XTC 1GB kit with a 1GB flash drive for your trouble?"

I was like, sure why not?

So, they send me back the 1GB kit, which I was a bit disappointed in not having the same quality ram as before, but hey at least I got a 1gb flash drive. So, I go to stick it in my computer and guess what? IT DOESN'T FIT!!!! hahaha

They sent me mislabeled DDR2 ram! So, I called them back and let them know. I don't hear back from the guy for a few days so I call again. This time I get a Service Rep Supervisor. THIS DUDE GOT ON IT!

He paid for my shipping, cross shipped, and then gave me 2GB GX XTC GOLD 3200 DDR Ram.... AND I got to keep the 1GB flash drive!!!!!!!

Sooooooooooooooo....

Now I have 3GB of GOLD OCZ Ram and it's awesome! All my games run soooo smooth. And I have to say... I didn't think 3GB would make much of a difference than 2... but it really does. I run Oblivion and it helps sooo much. BF2 runs great and so do a bunch of other games, plus my system is just running a whole lot more smooth.

Sure, it could be because I had some shizzy ram in there, but I gotta say that before all the errors, Oblivion just runs way better with the extra ram. I have full settings maxed out on 1024x768 with my 7900gtx, and AMD 4000san diego.

Anyone else have any experience with high amounts of ram and gaming?

Sorry for writing so much, I just figured I'd tell the whole story. tongue.gif

well good for you la TS thumbup.gif, anyway...remember this, the more RAM, the better icon_idea.gif, yeah, even though you got 3GB of RAM, i doubt it you're on Dual Channel, not to mention it's kinda hard in overclocking, you knowla, different chip, different segment icon_idea.gif, if i were you, i'd sell the 1GB kit icon_idea.gif whistling.gif brows.gif

3GB still can be running dual channel anyway.
2X1Gb, 2X512MB, dual channel.

I actually dont quite get it
1GB kit dead and sent for RMA, came back DDR2 1GB kit
Then OCZ resend one 2GB DDR kit, should have only 2GB, how to be 3GB ?

But then someone up there mention ready boost, but is it ?

ok my bad about the dual channel thingy, but TS... i don't really understand this part...

you said, you got wrong 1GB kit of DDR2, this kit actually came along with 1GB thumbdrive, you called and they sent out new unit, only this time, 2GB kit (assuming you're on DDR1 - because damaged RAM you sent was PC3200, plus you mentioned it won't fit)... so, how you can install 2 different RAM module? unsure.gif

sure must be ready boost already.....but then again pendrive can have such good effect? and he did mention before that he was on 1gb ram so if he does have 3gb it would definitely make alot of difference

i think the TS has 2 kit of 1gb , each 2 x512mb of OCZ gold so total of 4 x 512mb

then 1 of the 1gb kit (2x512mb) sent for RMA, but come back is 2gb kit (2x1gb)

so now back from RMA, he has 2x512mb and 2 x 1gb kit .......so total 3gb.........

btw if the rams can run at the same timing at ur desired speed not much problem overclocking.........even with different chipset

but seriouly 1gb upgrade to 2 gb a lot of difference, but later not that muhc unless the game is CPU and memory intensive...... i did find my supreme commander to be a bit smoother at massive amount of unit scenario when running on 4gb then 2gb or rams, (but sadly i'm still on winXP, so 3gb is the useful capacity only)

anways more than 2GB is an overkill if ur using a 32 bit system. XP cannot fully utilise it (at all) while Vista needs a patch for it to work. And even on 64bit OS the difference is negligable enough.

Oh, isit t3chn0m4nc3r bro? Maybe is not CAD but CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) that involve more than 1000 parts need more than 2GB which I found it to be the system requirements for latest Autodesk 2008 version.

Hardware Requirements:
Recommended For part & assembly design
(less than 1,000 parts)
RAM 1+ GB

For large assembly design
(more than 1,000 parts)
RAM 3+ GB

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index...3112&id=8410923

But, maybe you're right that, it is only the requirements but not actually used that much la. wink.gif

I am using 4GB in Vista 64 too. I must say, there is difference in term of performance as compare to 2GB.

But it will be even better if could grab the 2X2GB Kit lol.
