Before I built that Core i3 PC I did price/performance comparison.

AMD was expensive, and if you say otherwise then tell me what AMD proc that can rival Core i3 12100F ?

5 years since ryzen, AMD fanboys all conveniently ignore how 12th gen big small kicked AMD down on both performance and value front.

dissapointed that zen4 IPC uplift is very minimal. amd only focused on clockspeed uplift this time around.

but at least on the brightside, it might improve low-load compute tasks responsiveness.

they target to gain 15%~20% gain each gen.

if they manage to do more,

they saved it for next next gen.

as simple as that.

back to the day when Intel has significant lead, the cross gen uplift is even more SADDENING...

these firms will want to milk all consumers as much as they can. always give incremental improvement... better wait another if can for AMD to iron out the zen4 issues first.

then you have uplift from higher clock speed and DDR5

yes, most of those gain are just from 600mhz clock speed uplift.
but hey it just cinebench biggrin.gif

multi-thread performance is kinda good though, it make it ~33% faster than 5950x, but then again it consume 65w more power.

no need sugarcoating la, those 15% figure were the sum of IPC and clock increase.
https://twitter.com/aschilling/status/1528635957678854147

but then again, 600mhz clock uplift is not small feat too, IPC improve doesnt necessary improve all sort of workload, but improving clock speed do.

i will just said this is refined zen3 made with 5nm tsmc process paired with ddr5 and support pcie5

but to be honest they did the same with rdna2 lol.
ipc increase macam tarak, but increase the clock speed from 1905mhz (rx5700xt) to 2424mhz (rx6700xt) make it 27% faster. of course it doesnt come cheap as the logic space were bigger in order to get those extra clock headroom. end of the day, its the end result that matter.

no need sugarcoating la, those 15% figure were the sum of IPC and clock increase.

I recently built a new custom PC using Core i3 12100.

Any AMD current unit that can compete for price/performance?
*
none. best value processor at this price range now. pentium g6400 also another gem for entry level.

i personally like amd since the thoroughbred/barton era because they are the underdog. but i just recently changed to i9-12900 for my office pc, and i7-12700 for my home pc because i believe as far as ddr4 is concerned, this 12th gen intel should be the max performance already

it says more than 15% means min 15%. but only the top SKU like Ryzen 9 will get the 5.5GHz. so possible the single core improvement should be better, just that AMD have not shown it yet to underpromise then overdeliver. since it is a Fall launch, it will compete directly with Raptor lake with massive cache.

Zen 4 short blender test got 31% faster than 12900k, which the 5950x was sIower.
Something doesn't add up.

Takkan DDR5 memory controller and RDNA2 iGPU took up all their engineering time ohmy.gif

Edit: also USB and PCIe 5.0

dont forget usb4 too, though this can be licensed from whoever that provide those chipset with royalties previously.
for ddr5 they already done their homework earlier since ryzen 6000 mobile CPU and steam deck were using ddr5.

there also possibility that most of engineering effort goes to rdna3 too.

15% in the bag. More by how much, that is the question.

Let say they have 25-30%, the > 15% is still valid.

By the time its out, I wonder if Intel will have more worthy challenger?

I plan to build custom PC by end of the year.

I already build one custom PC for a friend and since she use it for work purpose I went for Core i3 12100F. I actually considered to go for Ryzen at first based on good word of mouth but after price/performance survey, as well as watching Youtube reviews from established channel, it was simply not worth it.

I am no Team AMD or Intel, I am Team My Wallet, so whoever offer the best price/performance by end of the year, I go for that.

if for work purpose (no 3D rendering or some hardcore workload)

any current main gen or 1 gen ago processor + nvme ssd consider overkill already

yup..just go for whichever that is best value biggrin.gif

just like i build i5 11500+nvme for my mom main fb ; really overkill and smooth like butter biggrin.gif

TLDW: AMD sandbagging. Worst case scenario against Raptor Lake is the...

the only performance figure they released so far is the Blender test. 😅
basically just teasing...
even the gaming footage they still haven't show what the fps is like.
waiting for another event closer to the launch later this year where they will actually announce the performance in details and family stack with specifications of each.
AMD also want to see what Intel has been cooking.

Robert Hallock confirmed:

"We're getting a 40%+ increase in performance"

"We were conservative on that [15%+ ST] number in like 4 or 5 unique & important ways"

"Power limit was between 105 & 170w"
