Hi,
Is it true to get a (at least) 100Mbps of Read Speed SD card for better performance on DashCam? To avoid choppy recording.

Any recommendations?

Get DDPAI with built-in memory best.

Else get genuine Lexar, Sandisk, Kioxia (formerly Toshiba) are all fine.

The cards are all Class 10 now, means minimum write speed 10MB/s.

not only you need high read speed but high reliability also.

budget is samsung evo plus 128gb.

recommended are samsung pro endurance or sandisk high endurance series or any "endurance" 128gb cards.

get 128gb capacity or at least 64gb.
32gb or lower the cards will die faster.

I was using Sandisk in Blackvue DR400 - the ancestor of all Blackvue dash cams. It kept rebooting after a while. Replaced new Sandisk card and it would behave well only for a short while. I thought it was due to ageing dashcam, because it was doing well when new (but using other brand of sd card).

Replaced dash cam, used back same card and baru realised card was faulty.

all will be class 10 nowadays.
but for dashcam its recommeded to the the UHS class speed 3 aka U3/V30 class especially if your recording 4k.

minimum sequential writing speed of U3 30mbps vs class10(U1) 10mbps.

nowadays they have cards specifically for dash cams with high endurance.
these cards have higher write / rewrite times and higher tolerance to temperature for reliability.

but tat being said, it still comes down to luck as no manufacturing is 100% perfect.

Yeah but Sandisk from that era was performing significantly worse than Samsung from that era.

If I am going to replace my SD card, I won't consider Sandisk unless it's priced significantly lower.

that time those high speed class 10 cards when they were first introduced all the brands have some reliability issue back then especially for video recording.

sandisk reputation took a hit for 2 reasons.

1) their low end cards really have quality issues last time.
2) sandisk was the brand with the most fake products back then.

remember go pasar they selling 32gb sandisk sd card for rm10 only last time? brows.gif

ts,you need write speed, not read speed. get something with v30 spec. also do note that this is also can be bottleneck by cam sd controller too.

ideally any sd with good write speed will have good read speed too.

No it is not because your dashcam WRITES video to your SD Card. If it reads from your SD Card, and your SD Card is empty, what does it read? your imagination?

if you want endurance, get sandisk endurance series, sandisk said it could stand 5000 hours of continuous recording for 1080p video on 64gb card.

if you want performance, then goes for sandisk extreme series.

Thanks for made the Read & Write clear! I was curious because most of the Card are stated Read/Reading Speed! If it does mentioned Write Speed, you wouldn't see this post!

Btw, if you are not interested to help or being helpful, you may just simply ignore the post! Do not need to insert such impolite words.

I would like to THANKS those treated the post as SERIOUS as me, and given such USEFUL & HELPFUL Informations as reference! I believe, many of them who read the post might gain knowledge too! Appreciate 🙏🏞

For dashcam or cctv, go for endurance sd card because it is design for non stop continuous recording or re-recording and usage in high temperature environment.

Either go for Samsung Pro Endurance or Sandisk High Endurance..

For 64GB/128Gb, samsung give extra warranty compare to SanDisk but unfortunately they are being sold with high price tag here..

Sandisk> https://www.westerndigital.com/en-ap/produc...QQNR-032G-GN6IA

For Sandisk, there is Max Endurance with 3-15 years of warranty depends on storage capacity and much bigger price tag.

AFAIK, warranty does not cover usage in dashcams or CCTVs. Not sure if things have changed though.

Uh?

The card is design for Dashcam/CCTV and similar device so why won't the warranty cover usage with Dashcam..?? 😅

all endurance sdcards warranty covers dashcam/cctv usage.
its the non endurance ones that will not cover dashcam/cctv usage.

this is serious /k, not kopitiam.

TS has made an error in mixing up read and write, does not mean we have to insult/demean him.

if it was in /k then...... whistling.gif

Been using Samsung Evo cards (non-Endurance) in dashcams, action cams, phone and media players for years...all ok. If TS has the budget, do get the Endurance version for yr dashcam; that's what I would do if and when my dashcams need new cards.

same here. got bad experiences with sandisk too.
the card cant tahan high speed writing end up corrupt and failed to write even with those class10.

then use samsung evo in my dashcam, go pro, helmet camera, cctv etc. no issue at all

Same here. Anecdotal data from most dashcam groups indicate Sandisk cards are more prone to failure, than other cards.
