QUOTE(ukapaka @ Mar 24 2022, 10:52 PM)
It is the same language although there were localization differences. Maybe if anyone prefers it can be referred to a general, non confrontational alt term such as 'bahasa'. But it doesnt take away the fact that it is still the same language family. Look at it this way. If you call a language Australian or American or Canadian just because you hated the Brits for eg. that actually just silly.

Also what cultural appropriation when most Malays and technical Malays like Zahid Hamidi for eg. memang can trace their root to Indonesia pun.

It is similar but not the same. Australian or American is a slang but still English as standard. There are no standard for bahasa. In order it to be an official language, you need to choose one.

Which ties back to my original question, what would Indon say when you with only 32mil speaker want to use your bm as standard instead of b. Indon which have 280 million speaker? Indons are very patriotic too.

It's just silliness and would go no where while offending our neighbours.

I bet Indon not wanting to use together one language is because back then our grandparents associate the malay race name as the country and language name. Instead of identity for all Austronesian including Indon, it tied only for Malaysia.

I feel not really. Language shouldn't be butchered. Simplified, yes. Depending on circumstance.

This is like lowering quality, then wanna promote to world  rclxub.gif

The written version is intact and standardized across the family. Dialects are normal.

There are.

The resentment if any are more towards socio-politic than the language.

They are family.

This is why we laugh at our leaders. ASEAN meeting, supposedly to be regarded as 'important', and your agenda is the use of language? This is the priority?
He has a huge opportunity to discuss about irrigation, the future of living with covid, or other current issue. Haihh...

Why BM as second language of ASEaN? Why not thai or Vietnamese or tagalog all of which have more speakers?

Slang means colloquial words not a different in speech emphasis.
Lazy ass Malaysians who have decided to 14th floor their English proficiency because of their orenkite bodoh sombongness will conflate the 2. It’s embarrassing.

if there are not many Indonesian speakers (of which Indonesian speakers account for nearly 300 million people), I'm not sure Mail would dare to put forward the idea...like or dislike BM rides on the popularity of Bhasa Indon.
