u want better cornering, avoid used vios & polo. as used vios & polo at that price range not equipped with esc yet. if I were u, I'll buy rio. Good quality & reliability. stable at fast speed & cornering coz got esc + vsm.

Make a profit from travel claim? Are you being paid by the km or a flat rate?

Generally speaking if you add depreciation and maintenance to the equation it is rather difficult to make a profit unless you operate a Myvi or Vios.

The Kia Rio in question is an extremely competent car, company operates one that was registered in 2019. It is one of those cars that you buy because you want a good car but don't really care that much about cars yet you don't want a Toyota. Decent handling, fuel economy isn't bad but not as good as a Vios, Performance isn't its strongpoint but it will cruise 130km/h without a problem, probably as fast as you could reasonably expect to go on the highways these days anyway. The real downside to it is the lack of boot space and rear seat room is quite tight especially for larger sized adults. The other downside to this car is the cost to maintain it if ever you bring it to a Kia service center and prices have gone up by at least 25-35% since the new distributor took it over.

The other car worth looking into is the Hyundai i30 and i40. Unfortunately not many in the market but very underrated cars. Every bit as good a handling car as a Peugeot or VW and better than any Toyota ever sold here and that includes those on the TNGA platform.

You read my mind bro, actually i did considered the Polo 1.6 with 6AT, i tested the 208 1.2 puretech and this polo on last week at Carsome. But in term of fun and comfort, suspension setup refinement, even interior quality, the Polo is no where near the 208... But again.. only comparing to 208.. if other japs or p2.. its still better.. (not the mazda2)

the polo still in my list of consideration, but need to research more on the reliability first... but i guess should be fine, 1.6NA plus Aisin 6 AT..

Yup. The 1.6 Polo is 1 or 2 generations behind the Pug turbo thus the difference that you felt. To be fair, comparing against the Polo 1.4GTI , or MK5/6 GTI would be more suitable.

I've tested the current Mazda 2 and frankly if cabin space is no concern it would be a good alternative but then again you already have a Mazda 3 so driving this might feel like taking the wrong set of keys for cruising instead. Otherwise the next B-segment candidate would be an early current gen Yaris.

Seems like many are recommending Kia Rio, then i need to spend some time in the market to hunt for the Kia Rio MPI with 6AT, couldnt find any for the time being, mostly is the previous 4AT. Guess still too new.

Travel = paid /km travelled + outstation flat rate on daily basis, the rate is kinda high.

Currently i am driving family's 10yrs old lagi best 1.5 myvi, no doubt the maintenance is very affordable, but then, the driving experience on highway is not that assuring, even at speed of 110-110km, especially road condition is not that "flat", also lack of ESC/VSC.

For me, space not a concern as most of the time i am driving alone and small family, even the size of polo i can live with it. Sometimes i enjoyed driving a compact car even more.

Thanks for the feedback ,appreciate that, will try to look for used kia rio 2019, but going to take a while, couldnt find any used unit for the time being, mostly are the previous gen.

Ahh, that makes sense, i am comparing them because their used car price is relatively close to each other, with only RM500 difference mar... There is no competition Polo 1.6 vs 208 puretech.. 208 just win hands down in most aspect apart from idling vibratiion (3cyl)..

True, i do once considered Yaris after reading/watching all the good reviews, but bro.. the used car price is so high.. might as well top up a bit and get a new one lol.. thats why i gave up on this option.

Thanks!

Yup, since Covid came along and the 2nd hand used car prices jumped, generally almost every asking price for a used B-segment car seem to be
amongst the highest, so much that it makes more sense to spend a little more and wait for a new unit than a 2 or 3yr old unit.

Looking at your liking for something more exciting and more 'unique', somehow the 2nd gen BMW 1 series comes in mind but you'll need to note that its a continental car (parts costs) and typical for most BMWs watch out for plastic parts/hose crack and oil leaks in the engine bay.

I reckon c-segment with 2.0litre engine is more suitable to your needs for long distance and stability. If you're the type who drive smooth 110-120km/h on highway, c-segment cars fc is actually quite good, not that far from b-segment. My old tech elantra w/vvt can muster 15km/l on highway drives consistently thru the years.

Roadtax is around 380+-10 /year.

Biggest satisfaction you get from a bigger engine capacity is the torque when going up ascends along your route

model to consider in no particular order
Altis 2.0
Civic FB 2.0
M3 2.0 skyactiv
Cerato 2.0
Inspira/lancer 2.0

yeap..a civic FB might a good choice, less popular so cheaper, still reliable just like FD.

Thanks for all the feedbacks!

I made up my mine to go for new YARIS E, booked on last Sunday and now processing for loan.

Its a big trade off for handling to comfort. The Yaris's handling is just average, but considering the reliability, resell value and safety features and FC, i think it is one of the best from the same category.

Thanks once again!
