I am currently looking for an used car with budget (50k+-), main requirements as below

1. Long distance travelling to at least once a month to Penang, and once a month to Jb.
2. Fuel saving, as i am running sales, mileage claim basis, the more i save the more i earn.
3. Currently looking at B segment hatchback only, i already have a C segment at home, my wife is driving it.
4. Prefer not too old used car, around 2018 and above would be best.
5. Prefer more driver's oriented models, personal preference, prefer the car to handle high speed (110-120kmph) and cornering better.
6. Trying to avoid P1 & P2 because i have owned them previously, looking for a change.

Currently i am eyeing on Peugeot 208 puretech 2018, or kia rio MPI 2018, both also around my budget range. I really love how the peugeot 208 handles the road, just strike the balance between comfort and performance, not to mentioned the good FC.
But the reliability issues than i have been reading around from the website is kind of scary, not sure if i does plague the 208 puretech or not. But definitely the cost of ownership for 208 is going to be higher.

Do considered Jazz or Yaris, but the used car price is just too high and doesnt make sense, might as well top up a little bit more to get a new car, unless go for 2015 or below for Jazz.

Now ayam is pening and cannot make a decision, any other suggestions are most welcome too!

Alternatively a Myvi. Again fairly reliable and good on gas. With the balance all in bitcoin.

why not a D seg? 50 60k can look for mazda 6 first skyactiv version

For that budget and driving requirement, would you consider a 1.6 VW Polo?

It has the relatively reliable Aisin-sourced conventional gearbox, power wise is almost similar as a Rio but handles much better than almost any Japanese B-segment at that price.

If it has to be either the Peugeot and the Rio, I'm willing to trade fun from a turbo for a more 'reliable and easier to maintain' long-run NA 1.4.

Also are you sure you want a B-segment hatch as a long distance runner? Coz personally I would get a used D-segment for the wife as her daily, and use the C-segment myself, then swap cars for that monthly trip.

Don't take Peugeot 208.

Just get a Kia Rio 2018, better still if you can find a facelifted unit with 6 speed auto that comes with 16" wheel and without sunroof. Kia is quite reliable and decently fun to drive.

Get a 2L car like toyota camry or honda accord. Good fc when cruising drive.

long distant drive... FC is about the same unless you 200kph all the way then yea

Yup. Long distance traveling bigger the better. Recommend at least D-Segment like Camry, Accord, Mazda 6 or better BMW 320D E90/F30 (Yes, BMW diesel engine)

As per some feedback here, Mazda 6 sky active 2nd hand value is dirt cheap nowadays especially the 2.0 version. If lucky get the 2.2 Diesel engine even more better.

A used Vios would be the best. Cheap to run and own.

Going D segment will increase tyre cost, fuel cost. However, you get much better driving comfort and safety

I did think about these 2, also the Jazz.. but would like to have some model which is not that mainstream one lol.. gatal..

other than that, the used car price is relatively, better go for new terus.. which is kinda out of budget..

But for D segment car, the cost of maintenance is higher as well.. i willing to pay a bit more extra to get conti or rare B-segment hatchback.. but D segment i wry out of my budget, pls correct me if i am wrng haha.

You read my mind bro, actually i did considered the Polo 1.6 with 6AT, i tested the 208 1.2 puretech and this polo on last week at Carsome. But in term of fun and comfort, suspension setup refinement, even interior quality, the Polo is no where near the 208... But again.. only comparing to 208.. if other japs or p2.. its still better.. (not the mazda2)

the polo still in my list of consideration, but need to research more on the reliability first... but i guess should be fine, 1.6NA plus Aisin 6 AT..

yes, the latest kia rio is better with 6AT.. but a bit rare in the used car market now, maybe still new? might need to wait.. anyhow i am not in a hurry..

Mazda is driver centric car...who knows. haha.

apart from that i think kia k5 is quite reliable too. but the fc recorded at fuelly.com is just 10-12km/L.

i didn't own any of your wish list car but the horror is just too much plus
1. VW has closed many SC, so i am not sure if the spare parts is easy source when come to service
2. peugeot 208 is a bit compact

agree that D seg should be on higher side when come to maintenance but for the sake of going distance.... the comfort from D segment cannot be described thru words

not sure about KIA, never own before but interior is truly fancy

I reckon c-segment with 2.0litre engine is more suitable to your needs for long distance and stability. If you're the type who drive smooth 110-120km/h on highway, c-segment cars fc is actually quite good, not that far from b-segment. My old tech elantra w/vvt can muster 15km/l on highway drives consistently thru the years.

Roadtax is around 380+-10 /year.

Biggest satisfaction you get from a bigger engine capacity is the torque when going up ascends along your route

D-Segment cars if your getting the base line like Camry/Accord/Mazda 6 2.0 the maintenance level is quite similar to C-Segment 2.0 category. The engine & sport rim are similar and the most is higher fuel consumption abit for the D-Segment rides due to bigger and heavier ride. But in return you gain better comfort and safety for long distance travelling compare to smaller 1.

Yea agree, KIA interior is fancy, not that mainstream which is to my liking.. Polo wise is quite dull and boring, but it drives better, a trade off for that. I dont actually mind having a compact car as i am driving alone most of the time, in fact i prefer compact cars which drives good on highway speed, i think only conti can do this?

Other than travelling to northern and southern, i also need to visit to industrial area in klang valley where in some cases, parking and road are quite tight, compact car is good.

208 is actually more spacious compared to polo as what i have experienced last week.

Agree on that, C segment is good for highway drive. I have a Mazda 3 skyactiv 2.0, cruising at speed is 110-120 is very relaxing, but i am using it as weekend car only, mostly wife driving it, and sending my son to daycare back & forth.

But the 208 isnt that bad too, very composed surprisingly, RPM only 2.3k at 110kmph.
