Hi.

I've been contemplating of buying an iPad Air for my work. I'm a uni lecturer and often see my colleagues use iPad that makes their work seems much easier compared to using laptop.

Anyone has any idea when will the order starts here for Malaysia?

Why not go with 128gb iPad Pro? Much better value.

It's not like the A series in the previous Air was slow for most of the apps people would use an Air for. I'd have preferred a 120Hz screen instead. 8GB RAM is nice though.

My department's budget only allows me that much for the wifi+cellular version... plus I kinda like the green color, although they scrapped the color for the 5th generation

That’s why it makes it so attractive. Now one can buy a cheapest iPad Air and get the M1 chip. This is even cheaper than a Mac mini price to get the same chip. Greatest benefit is not only performance but the lifespan of the device. With such powerful chip, u can imagine the fact that u can use the iPad for very very long time. Likely the iPadOS support will be longer than the iPhone with the A chip launched in the same year.

i believe the iPad Air 4th A14 could last for another 3-4yrs with software support.... M1 could be longer , if they wish to ....

M1 chip can certainly last longer. This is the same as macs which macs always get more no of years of support too.

can last longer, but not sure if they want to provide longer software support .... this might affect their revenue also

Is depend on the user's need. For my case, I don't even need an ipad pro, I just need a usable tablet for online learning and teaching. 120hz screen in pro? Not a big deal at all as I usually using Mac air to doy work.

yeah, our closest neighbour SG and Indonesia already can order.

and yes, I think an iPad Pro is an overkill for me, who's planning to use it for work as a lecturer and light digital art stuff.

I still don’t understand why they use such a powerful chip on a mainstream iPad… and some more it cannibalises the sales of iPad Pro…

Not really, if they do not put M1 chip on iPad Air 5 basically there is no selling point for it. Ppl will totally go for 128GB iPad Pro instead.

It is the same as they are putting A15 in phone SE 3 that ppl may still go for this iPhone instead of iPhone 11 or iPhone 12 mini due to the chip.

They purposely make it so difficult to choose as part of their marketing strategies.

Go with anyone of them except air haha

Mini u have the form factor advantage.
Pro u get all the best.

Why would you say so bro? The design of the air looks tempting though. I'm actually thinking to get the air or the base model. hahaha. Normally use for entertainment purpose only, maybe once for a while some gaming.
