QUOTE(tupai @ Mar 1 2022, 12:19 PM) According to the Constitution of Singapore, the national language of Singapore is Malay, which plays a symbolic role, as Malays are constitutionally recognised as the indigenous peoples of Singapore, and it is the government's duty to protect their language and heritage.[a] The constitution also states that the four commonly used languages of Singapore are English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil, with the lingua franca between Singaporeans of different races being English, the de facto main language.? |

For info, there're still many smaller towns that have Chinese (and also Tamil) medium schools at the primary level only.
To continue to Chinese medium secondary schools, they need to either go live with relatives in bigger towns where these schools are available, or enter SMK (national secondary school) nearby. I think it is good to have an assessment test... |

Both sides oso sohai. Those who are anti BM Hallo, you are Malaysian citizen lah. Wtf is wrong in studying the national language? If you dun want to learn BM or too stupid to learn then just stfu n be quiet about it lah. No need to insult the national language or give excuses. Did the pinoys or the thais or the vietnamese indonesians etc said their lamguage useless only can use locally? To those pro BM Ppl wanna learn or dun wanna learn BM what has that got to do with you? Will you get rich and life automatically becomes rainbows and sunshine if ah chong in kuala pilah knows BM? And will you get poor and starve if muthu in seremban dunno BM? Since when did tak tahu bahasa = pendatang tak layak jadi warganegara Malaysia? Living in a multiracial multicultural nation have you learned other languages aside from your mothertongue to communicate with others? Or just hide behind the "kebangsaan/national/official language" label, so convenient no need to learn? Multiracial multicultural konon puikkk... Back in those days 50's - 70's plenty of nons (and also malays each with their own dialects) dunno bahasa but none of them said BM is useless. And it was never a fukken issue, ada bahasa cina dan bahasa tamil on the forms or use sign language, whatever. How the fark did lanaguage proficiency oso become a tool to instigate r&r???
