Beneath the seat.

Mini and lite version of Windows for diagnostic and troubleshooting purpose. It's live-cd.

Kacau but it's a motorised LCD so I adjust it to tilt about 85 degree from aircond.

I'm loooking at it too...

I know both having bumpy rides...
1.3 underpowered, not sure about 1.5..
For the price, 1.3 RM59k quite ok, but 1.5 RM7xK++, i felt it's a bit expensive for such rides......

I'm looking at 1.3 manual second hand too.. it's almost 48k... thinking also better buy a new one, since new 1 just 10k apart..

actually alot of the bumpiness and other factors which the old version Avanza faced has been fixed. Bumpiness is there still but in my opinion its not that bad. I drive a 1.3 2007 model by the way. Underpowerd, well yeah, sometimes, especially in situations when you want to accelerate but usually by pressing the accelerator more, it should do sufficiently. Toyota came up with the Avanza 1.5 model is so that to answer this underpowered issue but yeah its another rm10k+. Its a people mover which I need for my life at the moment so it still serves it's purpose for me.

yeah tried genting with 6 adults, fully grown. due to the mods i have done, no problem lor, enough torque. abit slow, but not underpowered. fc is nice, city driving 400+km for full tank, full tank around RM70. Highway driving can hit 650km without problem.

One of the best points about the Avanza is the FC. For normal driving, I have been getting 460-480 km per full tank. I have not moded anything yet. Still under warranty. However after my 10,000km service a month and a half ago, the acceleration is incredible. I don't know what the service centre did, but perhaps after the oil change etc etc, my acceleration is very good. I just step lightly on the pedal and it really is very responsive, can outrun some cars at the traffic light, haha. I think the avanza gets better after a few services later.

Ahhh... this thread bring back some good memories that i had on my Avanza... still remember my car is the very first batch of the Avanza and both myself and my friend bought at the same time. Driving around town is fun with good view because of the height. And of course at that time, everyone are looking at us like we were driving a ferrari.. hehehe..

Because of the high torque, this car is damn fun to drive but not to speed. Although my 1.3 can goes up to 140 easily.. heheheh

I feel a little scared or threaten when an Avanza tries to speed beside me ... the car is big size ... don't know how to describe the feeling. No offence to owners in here.

Well, when you think normal unmodded Avanza is scary when it overtake, wait till you see the modded and full body kit Avanza, that is scary. I saw one overtake mine last time. I am going 120km and 'it' overtake me with ease. Saw that one once when going back from Kuching.

hey you guys ever notice the automatic effect of the engine downshift when going downhill and you stop pressing the gas pedal?
is that normal?
by the way, i am a new avanza owner! gotta say i love it! better in all respects than the Vios it replaces except maybe for ride quality. but i am sure you guys can help me tame the bounciness.

I understand that the ride is a bit rough.. will changing the absorber solve the problem? As I mentioned above, planned to get 1.. but haven't do a test drive yet.. planned to get gold colour avanza.. is it available in manual? btw, i'm looking for year 05 avanza..

Yes, by change the rear absorber to more stiffer type will help reduce bouncing problem. I already change mine and it gave me more stability while cornering too.

i drove to Ipoh and back yesterday, fuel consumption was was ok, about 380km for 33L with mixed urban and highway driving. smooth and relatively quiet at about 300 rpm. cruised at about 100 to 110. a little bit wobbly when passing buses. it was raining heavily also but it was not skittish. thumbs all round. just a little bouncy at low speed but i think the suspension still needs a bit of stiffening.

If i'm not mistaken, 1.3 also got auto transmission... i'm very sure also lar..
But they were saying 1.3 auto were too weak to carry the car... therefore I'm looking for manual 1.3.
Year 05 manual. I'm targeting at the colour which is yellowish/gold.. i found it quite nice....

Great...
My father drove his friend avanza 1.3 manual to genting before, he were saying it's quite underpower, at that time 4 adults only.. maybe he is not so well in handling the car since it's not his car.. or maybe he's too used to sentra 1.5 engine in his sunny.... kekeke..

Well it's only 1.3, what to expect. We still can reach safely. It won't drive like a 2.0, but we don't go up Genting everyday right? But certainly lotsa room to carry stuff. thumbup.gif

I like the gold color too, but due to rush to get car, have to settle for green, which was my 2nd choice.

Haha, good for you, still the best color for the Avanza methinks. Matches the beige interior.

fuel price hike!
i dont know why we are being made to pay real world prices for fuel when we are forced to pay unreal world prices (read lower) for our cars! the pm should walk and the talk, get out of his merc and stop jetting off to here, there and where the sun doesnt shine on that airbus a319 and fly airasia or firefly just like he expects us to do! he also must UBAH GAYA HIDUP! UBAH!

i think those of us who bought avanza pre fuel price hike will thank the gods coz my wife wanted to trade in her vios for an Innova 2.0 (she didnt like the legroom of the Livina at the back)! luckily we couldnt agree until a friend suggested looking at the avanza and then we decided it was a good fit, so we got it. more space and same engine displacement made it a good idea.
eh, so you guys inflate the tyres by how much? do you follow the recommended tyre pressures?

for stock rims and tyre size, recommended tyre pressure is the best to follow. unless if you only use your car on highway, then over inflate by 10ps for better fuel economy.

for more technical info, you can visit

My dad is planning to get a new avanza (1.5G). I wonder if there's any special promo goin on for this car?? Btw, how's the fuel consumption of this car?? How's the ride of this car ?? Is there any improvement as compared to its elder sibling ?? There was once i sat on a 1.3L first batch, n the ride was way too bumpy =.=.

Hey there, you want sleek look, powerful engine and comfy ride? Take a look at Chery Eastar MPV.

Once you tried the power of it's Mitsubishi 4G64 2.4L engine, and the super easy handling and turning ratio, you'll fall in love with this MPV. One finger turning man with full load (7 people on board)... syok man!! thumbup.gif

Low profile and stylish with LED lights in the rear, good looks and comfortable ride compare to Avanza, Rush or Innova.

user posted image

Take a look at the features: thumbup.gif

1. Nice elegant look, esp the beautiful LED rear lights.
2. Good features you can only find in higher price MPV: Dual Airbags, ABS, EBD, Steptronic (auto & manual transmission), Mitsubishi 2.4L engine, 16" alloy wheel, CD + MP3 player with USB, Dual Tone Horn.
3. Good petrol consumption from the feedbacks here, RM100 for 450km.
4. Sleeker than Avanza/Innova/Serena but roomier than Avanza/Grand Livina/Rush/Citra/Rondo. Sits 7 people comfortably.
5. Auto thermostatic adjust air-con with blowers on last 2 rows.
6. 3 years warranty and 1 year free service. Use Mitsubishi spare parts.
7. NCAP Safety Rating of 4.

Just drop by some time to this threads but need to dig it up.

Change my rear absorber to GAB and it reduces bumpiness more... Don't believe it, try it... plus more confident when layan corner...

Agreed with you...

Other than double din cd player, other was the same as previous model. I saw there is 1.5E model also...

Noticed the gate shifter but it still 4-speed automatic gear box. I thought it use triptonic gear box.

hey guys....it's me again.

Juz wondering how's the FC for the 1.5L version? Personally, i've sat on both 1.3L and 1.5L respectively (Both are auto models). All i can say that the 1.5L has a smoother ride and a lil bit less bumpy as compared to its sibling.

1.5L shud be better than 1.3 since it got more power/torque to pull the car
my weekly petrol consumption from Puchong (Home) to Glenmarie Shah Alam (office)
RM30 - 250km (60% start stop, 40% smooth driving)

I think you yourself need to do the same since Extreme Avanza modification very rare to be seen in Malaysia. That was another story for Avanza user in Thailand and Indonesia.

Just visit Toyota showroom today during my 30,000km service. Have chance explore around 1.5s model while waiting my car being service. In the interior, just noticed at the center console and door handle, look like being covered by carbon fiber skin. Nice... Front grill also been given some nice touch...

after driving Goldie for almost a year now, can tahan la. no other car is this nice to drive that is FR and at this price! i dont think i want to change much save that springs which i would like to stiffen. aerodynamically, add a flat underbody and rear diffuser to reduce lift and drag. swap out the OEM rims for some that look the Civic hybrid rims that will help cut drag also.

how much the interest now??
y u dun want to choose Exora???
the main drawback for avanza is the combination of spring and absorber

the third row is OK for ppl below 180cm

I went toyota sale center few months back. Then i paid deposit rm500 for purchasing a toyota avanza. the salesman said around april-may should got the car. It is written black and white with the estimated time of car arrival. Now the salesman say maybe june only can get and somemore say whole malaysia must wait until june. What can i do now? See his manager or call toyota customer careline?

no need to cut...
it's fit nicely...
depends on your preference bro...
usually for our avanza, the problem is it's too bouncy and bumpy
so far titan has solve the issue for me...

Don't get me wrong. That 'Avanza Driftspec' project is just my wild imagination. Hehe. But I think it's achieveable. So it's not in the near future. It's in a very, very, very, very and very distant future. When I already got everything and some extra cash to spend. I hope I can do it though. Hehe. brows.gif

Yes. The styling of the kit is no doubt wild and sporty. However, I don't like it since it looks bulky as there is some mental Toyota engineer paste some plastic on the bumper, making it looks wider and thinking that it looks great. Furthermore, I'm the kind of person that thinks 'fast looking car need to be backed up', you know what I mean right? Hehe.
But there are things I do like and think that it balance my upset on the design, a little. It's the little2 things: Electric Wing Mirror with Signal lamp, Grip door handle, Second row seat now can slide, Beautiful dashboard, Cool center console box and Button-ised Steering. Most of all, Toyota know that uncles and aunties love black-trimmed interior too..

haahhahh rclxm9.gif i got u bro...

but at my 1st impression is quite reasonable for the front view and if you notice, this design look almost/most likely Toyota Prado...slightly but the Prado look more sportier than all new avanza.

i wonder if anyone here drove this mpv and could share their experience through out the new features that Toyota offer for this Variant.. thumbup.gif

hmm.gif I haven't seen the Prado.
Anyway, I guess that's it. I can only comment on the design and spec sheet for now. Yup. The side mirror is not retractable. But at least it got signal lamp there. And if you see nowadays that is trending on most new cars. Maybe I'll change my side mirror, for a reasonable price, of course. brows.gif

*
About the FC, I never calculate it. Sorry once again. notworthy.gif
But let me tell you how I drive it. I'm quite patient on revs. Please note that I mean my highway driving here. I just put down my foot around 30% down and the revs will build up and gears will shift. After some time, I'll eventually reach 100kmh and that's it. The only way to go faster is press harder. And then, the only time I'll go pedal to the metal is when I'm overtaking and climbing up hills. Now moving on to urban driving. You see, I live in a town where traffic jams are uncommon. I also apply my 30% style here. But most of the time I just release the pedal since it can move itself. Ironically automatic LOL.
As mentioned, the Avanza is my mom's and I seldom refuel when I return the car beause the fuel gauge simply dont move. And that's why I feel that it has a good FC. brows.gif
Anyway, my point is fuel consumption depends on how you drive and your driving environment. That's fact.

About the handling, I <3 it! Basically I just don't know what understeer and oversteer feels like. Not enough driving experience here. sweat.gif
1. Steering response is a bit lag as when I steer a bit, there's no response. Maybe alignment problem. But I rarely steer over 180degrees when taking bends on 100kmh. Of course, the road I'm travelling is the one I'm used to already, so I know where is the fast corner and where is the corner I need to attack slowly.
2. There are concerns that the car will topple when doing those 'stunts' tongue.gif but trust me on this, the suspension is working. Provided, that you can withstand the Gforce LOL. Moreover, provided that you can withstand the Gforce and steering vibration, you can do 140kmh on a smooth bend and feels like Hamilton LOL. It's really a fun car to drive.
3. I dont know whether it is in handling category but I think everybody agrees when I say the spoiler is not functioning when you approach a bump (not a speed bump, just the road is bumpy) at high speed.

QUOTE(Deani_77 @ Jul 10 2012, 07:28 PM)
Handling no problem... Only at high speed a little bit 'goyang' as for FC check my stats below...

8.2L/100km. Fantastic. Is that based-on-your-own-calculation number or as-claimed-by-Toyota number?

Not enough driving experience here.  sweat.gif

If you like high car then Avanza is your best choice. Been a 2007 Avanza owner last time and I don't have problem through deep pothole using Avanza but bumpiness is the main problem for Avanza especially for 3rd row seat. But built quality was great. I have no major brake down during my 6 years of using Avanza. Only normal maintenance.

Hi all Avanza owner here, year 2011. Just before the wild sporty look. I agree with most of you here, FC is quite good. RM70 (now at RM1.90) can run me at least 450km. The only problem is the bumpy ride and the goyang feel.

I am thinking of doing some mod here, but not sure which I should go for first.

1. Change RIM and tyre to 15" or 16", wider, so probably not so goyang and better handling

2. Mod my abs and spring, but this one I have no experience at all. Anyone can recommend what I should do to solve the bumpy and handling issue?

New owner signing in here. Was looking around for a new ride to replace my old corolla SEG and ended up getting the avanza. Will pick up car in one week time.

Just curious after reading the earlier post, full tank RM70 can go 450km. Anyone here can reach 500km?

Sending car for 1st service today. First two weeks car have been good. Only qualm is the stock wiper leaves a mark on the windscreen when used. Doesn't damage the screen or tinting but leaves a mark.

Fuel consumption not too bad. Can get around average 470km on a full tank. But over the weekend FC was higher because ferried more people in the car and back passengers full blast aircond.

But overall, my in laws were happy with the car. Those who sat in the 3rd row seats didn't complain about the bumpiness factor which I conclude is an improvement over previous models.

Hey, welcome to the club... havent been in here for a while and good to see still have some life in this thread thumbup.gif

With regards to your question, i say no point going for the e spec, since you are torn between e and s, why not just settle for the G spec? I am driving a G spec and its nice and low maintenance... unless you want the leather seats, then get the s spec.. just my view.. as for the aerokit, its really up to individual preference.. to me, is just a cosmetic add on, doesn't improve fuel efficiency or engine performance in any way..

Well, if you have more questions, PM me, don't mind helping out a fellow Avanza member... icon_rolleyes.gif

Congrats bro. Don't worry too much about the comments coz no car is perfect. This is a high body car which means body roll is of coz there, unlike a sedan. Fellas who are used to sedan of coz feel bumpy if they get into an avanza or even innova. Remember this is a mpv and it serves a different purpose.

I went to janda baik over the weekend and explored some of the really inner parts where the roads were gravel and uneven. The car served me well, if it was a sedan, quite sure some of the lower part of the car would have gotten scratched. Pick up along the genting stretch was ok. Kept it at constant 3k RPM, power and fuel efficiency was ok.

Maintainence cost so far has been very acceptable. Next service at 30000km will cost me around RM200 (official Toyota service center pricing).

I guess Avanza users are normally ok with their cars, hence not much complaints or talks of mod in this thread.

When i went for the test drive, i did bring 2 more people with me and they sat in the 2nd and 3rd row... last row naturally is more bumpy than second row but then again, also depends on how one drives the car. if you see a bump coming up and you tekan, sure la the back row folks will have a ejection seat experience biggrin.gif so it all comes back to one's driving also... i won't lie to you and say its as smooth as a sedan car but sedan car can't carry foldable mahjong table and plastic chairs and 7 passengers (2 separate trips of coz), so it has its pros and cons. Drive it conservatively and you will find it is a fun car to drive. I use it for family road trips, weekend excursions to countryside, etc.

I waited around 3 weeks for mine to arrive. By the way, did you go with the S spec? and what colour? Aerokit?

Wow still thinking how it fit with a table and chair and 7 ppl in one time, lucky u mention is two trip, haha.

Mine is silver color with the g spec, 3k discount and without the kit. Wanted to include the aerokit bit finally agreed with what the SA mention, the kit can get cheaper price at after market. So just take normal car.

Since the SA is my uncle fran, he totally didn't recommand the S spec, not worth for the value of money he say.

Just wondering if upgrade the sound system will the warranty void?

Hahaha same spec and same colour as mine as well.. 3k discount not bad... i managed to squeeze RM2K discount plus a RM500 service voucher from Toyota when i bought mine. Yup, the SA here also told me S spec not worth it.

I did ask the service centre people about the ICE.. he said if it doesn't interfere with the car engine, then won't void the warranty but i rather not take the risk.

Well, its up for tables and chairs duty again tomorrow at my work site and then after that, send 5 people to airport with luggage..

use this car since DEC 2007,
daily drive

failure parts are below

steering rack(under warranty)
gear box (Reverse gear engage delay) 2900
rear light bulb
head lamp bulb
rear bearing
Front wheel bolt break

over heat 2 times, no affect on engine gasket

1 time over heat because the radiator cap leak
2 time because the f***ing fan motor power connector loose

nothing else

Currently driver power window dropped
window sealing at driver side getting old and hard.
front door weather seal old ady, thinking to fix all this

recommended mod

front strut bar, front anti roll<----must change the bushing as well

Rear anti roll but not ULTRA RACING!

others i think no need, remain stock save some money.

OR maybe 1 vehicle set of GREBER red colour absorber why i use recommand this because cheap and acceptable C/P value high

Hmm interesting feedback.. don't see any reason why the engine shouldn't be new.. I'm no car expert but you might want to let the car get its first 1000km milage and then if it still feels that way, mention it to the service centre guys during the 1st service...

hey guys, in the market for an mpv. exora and avanza. though avanza smaller etc etc, but feel that the QC, support system (service centre n quality) is slightly better than proton's.

anyone who test drove exora CFE and avanza and then decided on avanza? whats ur take?

Hi guys, im currently driving an avanza 1.3 2004
Recently i found that my gearbox is jerky even though i serviced well and this time i did out a bottle of gearbox treatment.
Problem:
Shaking and jerky while changing from 1st to 2nd gear sometime to 3rd gear
Is it the problem caused by the failure of transmission filter?
